Nice little trailer lol. Love the over-enthusiastic voiceover.

When is the review up? I could have got this today, but I'm leaning towards patience and waiting on opinions to surface.

I think they said they're posting it on Friday. You might be interested to know that 360gamer have given it 8/10 citing that it's basically more of the same, but with some improvements and excellent co-op. Attack of the Fanboy gave it 65/100, essentially complaining about difficulty, similarity to the original, etc.

Personally, while I've only been playing it today, so far I am pretty confident in an 8/10 score. I certainly think the AOTF score is harsh.

No idea why it happened but my order dropped through the post from Shopto.net this morning.

So far, i'm quite impressed with it. Lots of improvements over the first one and its not quite as sluggish and I'm happy to say that so far, its retained a lot of the "feel" that the first game had.

This will be a crap port to the PS3!! Be warned, pick up the 360 version.

"I've heard that they haven't sorted out that stupid save system. That just doesn't make a lick of bloody sense"

I liked the save system. it installed a constant sense of dread.

They sort of have - you now have 3 save slots instead of 1. Personally I never had a problem with the original system, and I think a lot of complaints miss the point that the game was completely designed around requiring multiple playthroughs (With the mechanic of carrying your stats over every time you restarted reflecting this).

The one thing I will say is that there are a LOT of cutscenes in the early game (along with some lengthy load times), but it becomes much less of an issue later on. Chuck is more relatable as a character (I never really "liked" Frank as a character) and thankfully they're not over-doing the sentimentality with his daughter.

I also like the cheesy elevator music playing in the pause menu. It's a nice touch :-)

Oh, and for anyone curious about the achievement list this time (achievements in DR were fantastic): 50 achievs, 20g each. And yes, there's one for killing 53,596 Zombies. It's called Z-Genocider 2: Genocide Harder (lol). A lot of them look like they will require a lot of time to unlock (using every single type of weapon, for instance, or the Duct Tape FTW achiev for locating every single combo weapon).

Hope the player PP level carries over on to new games.

It does. The core mechanics of the game haven't been changed at all beyond giving you 3 slots instead of 1.

Also, I just noticed you can change the ringtone of the tranceiver in the options, which amused me. I can imagine the developer meeting:

"So then, what were the things people didn't like about Dead Rising?"
"The tranceiver! It was really annoying!"
"Ah ok. Well let's give them a choice of ringtone."
    "Fixed!"

Cheers. Can't wait for this. Think the first couple of run throughs will be just to get character up to a good level, maybe go for some achievements, just to see what presents it brings!! :)

It certainly did, but not in the way you mean.

Edit: actually, the 3 save slots do indeed make a world of difference. Which is very much a good thing.

Things that I love about Dead Rising 2, #201

Running around Fortune city in short shorts, a knotted girl's shirt and green super hero boots, with a pink floral hat on my head. Whilst wielding a broadsword.

My Zavvi pre-order hasn't materialised itself yet. Then again, it's not listed to be out until Friday >:

You know what? I didn't even know about the weapon combination function. I just saw "Dead Rising 2" and thought, immediately, that it's going on my list.

Now I've seen the Chainsaw Canoe Paddle, I'm giddy. Give me this now.

  • darkmorgado #21 2 years ago

Actually the tranceiver has been fixed. It doesn't go off half as often as it used to, and youre now notified about all survivors and psychopaths by text. Thankfully.

How is anyone supposed to pre-order?

By going to a website, or going to a shop and preordering it?
Personally I have had it on preorder for months, and I am bloody glad I did. Been playing it all day it's one of the best games I've played all year.
  • MrFlump #23 2 years ago

what are your thoughts on the free t-shirt?
Its not that bad a t-shirt to be honest, they've made the blood effect and the shirt look "dirty" so its quite a nice effect :) T-shirt wasn't the main reason I ordered it from there, they were the cheapest at the time!

Played a bit more tonight and its a good game, i'm enjoying it as much as the first one if not maybe a little more.

@koopa - you do realise that it's not duck tape right?
