Triggerhappytel I always notice that too, its in loads of films, I wonder where it was first used? It might have something to do with that... or it might just be lazyness.

1Dgaf - thanks man, geez, I never knew this frankly awful sound effect was so widespread, or had such heritage.

Looking at that Wiki page, I am also fairly sure it is in The Rock as well; may have to break out my DVD later and edit the page.

That's not a Wilhelm scream.

It's more "Yeeeaaaaaarghhhhh!", like a mix between a dinosaur roar and a Tie-Fighter swooshing sound. I know it's a stock sound as well, since it's used in so many things, but I've never been able to discover the name of it. A lot of people point to the Wilhelm scream, but they sound nothing alike.
