Colin McRae: DIRT - Gameplay

Published 31 May, 2007 Duration 3:37

You wouldn't be anywhere without your co-driver, you pompous rally car-steering snob! But apparently that's actually not far from the truth, although we'd say a car was slightly more essential. Vroom.

    Alcohol Refernce?
    Mild Language?
    Mild Violence?

    Where? I didn't hear anything.

Looks as if it plays exactly like all the old versions (even the very old ones) and not that pretty if you ask me (not that you are).

thought it was a bit bland n overrated

the earlier trailers had me thinking that this would be bit special, but it seems not. graphically, it looks just like Rallisport2 with some post-processing vaseliney filter stuck on it. and what the hell is with the macho american voice reading the pace notes? nice moment when he kept reading out the upcoming turns as the celica rolls over and flips into a ditch, though.

    Try actually playing it.

If this game doesnt impress you (graphically that is), i dont think any other racing game will.

Looks terrible, but that might be the compression. Let's hope the gameplay is alright.

I imagine the monotonic voice shouting directions gets tired real soon.

If you don't like monotonic voices shouting at you, don't play a rally game :D

I really liked the demo and past installments of the game too. Dare I say it, I may even get used to the 'American' voice and overall lean towards our Western neighbours.

Also, the graphics are excellent! Some moments of that video were almost photorealistic IMO...simply superb.

The only critique I do have is the dust falls to quickly. It needs to be denser and the feel of the cars need to be more 'slippery'...they feel TO good!

Also, the first rally game that introduces ragdoll spectators that let me plough through them when I screw up gets my full admiration.

    The demo looks pretty amazing.

This trailer does not do the game justice, try the demo.

I agree with most of what you say Papa, but the yank voice over is shocking. If the EG review doesn't pick up on that i will be shocked and if you can't turn it off i'm not buying.

"If you don't like monotonic voices shouting at you, don't play a rally game :D"

I think they could've recorded and used multiple takes of the same line. Would make it less boring and more realistic. This guy sounds like a robot.

I have to say I have never been a massive fan of racing games, only recently have I got into the GT4 and its not too bad, I have played most of the CMR games and never really gotten hooked... until the demo. Its quality, I think the demo is better than the Forza demo and I cant get off it. I agree some elements can obviously be improved, the comment about dust and sand settling to quickly is true (now that you mention it) even though I think your proper sad to pick up on it :). As to the voice, get a grip, does it make ANY difference, I think the new voice improves it.

Dont judge the game by this video, check out the demo and im sure you will be impressed!

It was just a small critique and I'm just nit-picking but stuff like this is important...it improves the 'feel' of the game. MotorStorm scores best in this area because it just looks and feels muddy!

This game's graphics are some of the best ive seen, like the other guys said, play the demo, it looks amazing. Something tells me that alot of the people posting here havent even tried it.

No, haven't tried it. The movie looks ugly, but like I said, might very well be the compression.

Looks a little ropey compared to the early demos. And anyone notice that the wing mirrors suck?!
Seems to plays just like Colin McRae and a bit disappointing given the hYpE!

Are we watching the same video? I think it looks great! And I didn't mind the voice. All English sounds the same to me.

Only thing that disturbed me some was the somewhat unrealistic physics of the cars. It stood out especially in one sequence (around 2.55+ into the video) where this rally car takes a turn way, way too fast. It looks like he's driving with slicks on asphalt and even then I'm not sure he could do that turn so quickly at that speed. Anyhow, I'm looking forward to this.
