Published 7 July, 2008 Duration 2:11

For gamers of a certain age, last week's announcement that classic Square RPG Chrono trigger is coming to DS will have revived a flood of memories. 13 different endings, that courtroom scene, the first flickers of a teenage crush on a cavewoman...

    A straight port? No sale.

They announced it wasn't a straight port though. Dual screen presentation, touch screen controls, extra dungeon and wireless play aren't really possible under emulation or on a gba are they?

but fine under a DS emu I suppose

i'd rather have a straight port to be honest, one of the best games i ever played, that i haven't played in years. don't want them to mess around with it too much, i just want to be able to play it again without draggin the snes out of the loft. touch screen controls is a bonus, little extra dungeon is nice too...

Would have preferred a straight port of Secret Of Mana to be honest, but this is good enough.

so why didn't they release it on gba?

They're only releasing it on DS due to the sales and they probably didn't think it would be worth porting it to GBA.

yeah i'm glad they aren't fannying around with the graphics. now i just hope they don't mess up the english translation, god knows they could - just look at that retranslation patch that came out last year, that was truly piss poor. the original snes translation was fine! but square-enix seem hell-bent on retranslating -everything- these days whether it needs it or not (i think they got it right for the PSX ports - FFIV needed it, FFVI didn't - but then on the GBA they re-did them both again, completely unnecessarily)

Chrono Trigger is timeless, but I will not pay for a copy-paste SNES port.

I prefer a port myself. I missed it first time :-)

A port is fine for me. I prefer this style of art. DS is ok for 3d, but it can never be as good as the original 2D artwork. So bravo to Square for not screwing up a winning formula.
Remember as well people, not too many in the west got to play this game first time round, could be a revelation for a lot of people

This was an awesome game. I gotta say i wont be paying for a game i already brought twice! I gotta disagree and say it would be nice to have a graphics upgrade like FF3 or just so it doesnt look like an old snes port. Yeah bring back secret of mana and secret of mana 2 which was the best game on the snes shame us english speakers was never supposed to see it.
