God, that was awful. It looks like some early-90s Interactive Movie (complete with utterly pap SFX).

The game footage looks... meh. More office buildings, warehouses and carparks. I know that FEAR isnt exactly known for having original environments, but after so many years of being criticised for using dull office spaces and warehouses, you would have thought that they might have cottoned on by now.

    ruh roh

I think day 1 would be on safe enough ground just letting you play as point man...slo mo fps...it works even if they're not as good as monolith, but it looks as if they'll have you play as fettel and probably arse it up completely
  • alcides #6 2 years ago

Geekiness only looks cool in CG.

    I broke all my mirors.
  • BillyBrush #7 2 years ago

also...the guys voiceover seems to be getting worse over time....fettel sounded creepy in the first game, now he sounds like a psychic peado
  • alcides #8 2 years ago

Everytime the guy talked I kept expect The Who to go

    BLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGGGH!!

It's SO bad it sounds like the narrator in Desperate Allusiveness.
  • Paperghost #9 2 years ago

    urgh.

the fact fettel returns at all is bad enough (horrible flashbacks to one of the worst "explanations" I've ever seen in a game, the non cannon extraction point where his return is brushed away with "I know it doesn't make sense...not much does, these days";) but they brought him back again in an *optional* expansion for fear 2, which suggests they had no real idea what they were going to do for 3.

but....suddenly point man is missing his mask and they don't even reference this in the trailer at all? no mention of the rest of the team, which fans of the first game have banged on and on about for years since the initial release? to me, those are the things that would have made me sit up and take notice, more than the horrible acting and CG effects.

worst of all.....this fairly screams "forced co-op", doesn't it? I'd be amazed if that isn't the direction it takes.

That live action stuff looks like some cheesy cheap fan film... in fact, I've seen better fan films. Not good.
  • nickthegun #11 2 years ago

I take it this means that they are airbrushing the terrible second part out of existence?
  • djed #12 2 years ago

We were engineered to be killers.... but became lovers!

Was F.E.A.R 2 no good then?
  • darleysam #14 2 years ago

Wait, so this isn't being made by Monolith? Who are Daylight Studios? I already know that there was a split, but Monolith bought back the F.E.A.R. title so they could use it. Now I'm confused..
  • dr_shambles #15 2 years ago

I always felt the F.E.A.R. series had great combat, marred by a crap engine.

John Carpenter's involvement is intriguing though. Think they should let him do the music too.
  • TheTingler #16 2 years ago

@darleysam: Day 1 Studios are - prepare to be excited (sarcasm) - the developer behind Fracture and the console port of FEAR.

The reason Monolith isn't doing this game is unknown. However, it should be noted that Monolith have NEVER done more than one sequel (and maybe a mission pack) to any of their games. Blood, No One Lives Forever, FEAR, Condemned... assuming they're not doing another Condemned of course, although as FEAR was more popular and they still dropped it I don't see why they'd carry on with Condemned instead.

SHOGO 2's a possibility, or a brand new game.
  • the_mtfr #17 2 years ago

This looks shit beyond comprehension. Shit from another dimension.

    "Was F.E.A.R 2 no good then? "

It got a pretty bad review on this site, but generally got some decent reviews elsewhere. I think Edge gave it an 8, for example. It's worth picking up though as you can get it second hand for about a fiver now.
  • Deckard1 #19 2 years ago

I'm liking the production values on the live action stuff. Nice retro feel, like a mega CD game.

Cheers Tingler, that clears some stuff up. Hope Monolith come back with something awesome, FEAR and Condemned have been two of my favourite games.
  • Demiath #21 2 years ago

Well, Shogo 2 it ain't. It's got the melodrama but not the hair. Next!
  • DUFFKING #22 2 years ago

Yay, the enemies don't glow in the dark!

    Already better than FEAR2.
  • darleysam #23 2 years ago

Cadence, to be fair, it was just another FPS and not a game about raping girls in the woods.

    is QFT!

and the reaction above me from STKD as well. What the hell are they doing with F.E.A.R. ? It started so strong with the orignal license. @ STKD Director's cut was awesome btw, I had it come fly over all the way from Australia, even when I already owned a copy of the original haha :+.
  • Stop-gap #25 2 years ago

Looks like no work went into that, FEAR needs a new engine unless they intend to run it irrecoverably into the ground.
I'll let it off if it turns out it was made as a 2 player co-op campaign from the ground up, but I doubt that somehow.
  • isolated1 #26 2 years ago

looks h0rr1bl3. Loved the first fear and condemned on pc, but Condemned 2 wasn't on PC and FEAR 2 bored me to tears.
  • Sar #27 2 years ago

    Worst trailer ever.
  • metroid455 #28 2 years ago

What the hell have they done?. I mean i loved FEAR1 and i quite enjoyed FEAR2 but THIS,THIS IS CRAP. i dident want to play as fettel and i swear to god im getting sick of developers trying to shoehorn co-op into games that don't need it(looking at you dead space 2). sigh i dont mean to rant on but its just frustrating to see one of my favorite game series go down this path,
i prefer FEAR1 and 2 over COD, bad company, and still play 2 online when i can.
  • Skandalle #29 2 years ago

at 1.36 ...one of the guys has the most unconvincing blowback ever. More of a fart floating in the wind.
