It's a remake of the original Half-Life in the Source engine. It's essentially HL 1 with better graphics and tweaked gameplay.

Ok, so this is the second remake of HL1 using the Source engine. As pretty as it looks, this is a bit pointless IMO...

Edit - It would however be a good idea for Valve to grab hold of this and "officially" release it through Steam and various other sources (360 plz!) as they did with Opposing Force and L4D

People are aware this has nothing to do with Valve right? They haven't been making this instead of Episode 3... this is just a fan project, a very, very, very ambitious one.

This is a fan-made mod. You're not missing out on ep 3 because of it.

Never really got into Half Life myself. Tried playing Half Life 2, and I'm slowly making progress (keep replaying that ravenhill bit. Was too awesome to just play though that area once).

Ignatius_Cheese, you need to chill out. This is a fan made mod and a fucking amazing one at that. Are you really saying there is something wrong with a group of fans remaking one of the finest shooters in its entirity using an updated graphics engine?

No one complained about the idea of Tomb Raider Anniversary did they?

Was only kidding of course, BUT, Whilst it's a remake it does look like they've tarted up many aspects of it so not all the same. I'd also suggest there's a fan base for this so why not.

It's also an awesome way to make a name for yourself when starting out. Better this than some random uni course.

must admit when HLsource was released I was a bit disappointed that it wasn't like the Black Mesa mod.

*Ahem* really quite looking forward to this. Much as I've enjoyed HL2 and appreciate all its technical advances, I've always preferred Half Life, a game that really transformed the way FPSes worked. Every single one of the scenes in the video sent a thrill of recognition and anticipation down my spine. Can't wait.

It will be free yes, they wouldn't be allowed to sell it as it's not their intellectual property and they are using the Source engine to build it.

The game that HL:Source should have been. If Valve charged for that, I can't see why these guys can't charge for a superior version - if they can't legally, the law is an ass.

Xen, and yes, because that's what happened in HL1. This IS HL1. With some tarting up. They've said they are probably going to revamp Xen alot more heavily though, as it was the most criticised part of the original game just being platform hopping and everything.

Not only is that completely awesome, but it's one of the best directed trailers for any game (professional or otherwise) I can think of.

most anticipated remake since TR:Anniversary, and very well deserved. I payed for anniversary and would pay for this one. The gameplay and storytelling in HL1 are not only ahead of its own time, but also miles better than what we get today.

Half-Life: Source isn't a remake - it's just the original game running in the Source engine, but not graphically improved (bar the nicer water).

The Black Mesa project is on a completely different level.

Looks very impressive. I suppose it has been in production since 2004 but still. Should keep us entertained until Episode 3 is finally released.

I think they've done a fantastic job on this, and as I only ever got half way through HL1 (the shame) I'd get this.

..will have to try this..as soon as possible..but what's with HL 2 Episode Three?...are we to wait forever?

I would love to have a loooong weekend to replay HL + HL2 + Ep1 + EP2 all in one go.
It'd have to be this instead of the original HL though.

Also, am I the only person who really quite enjoyed Xen? It genuinely felt weird and alien. My biggest problem with HL2 is that it feels like ... well, like a lot of other FPSes, with the honorable exception of the Minerva Metastasis mod which somehow felt much more like the "real" Half Life.
