They are appealing to the whole submissive "Waifu" sub-set of nerds who need to fall in love with video game characters. Y'know, like the creepy ones who fetishise characters like Tali from Mass Effect. Ken Levine just has the budget to indulge his own fetish.

Because why else would your average gamer want to fuck the character, and believe that the character would want to fuck them back? For an extremely large percentage of male gamers - and developers - that's literally all that matters for any female character, regardless of context.

EDIT: Aha! many on the Irrational forum thought likewise, there's a comparison shot. The old look had much, much more personality and also better suited what the character is capable of.
