EA + Free Maps = HaHaHaHa succers

I went on the BFBC2 store to see if there was any more info and noticed the "shortcut upgrade packs".

Apparently these are paid for (MS points) packs which unlock everything in its respective class, weapons, perks, add-ons etc.

My curiosity in the onslaught mode brought on by this trailer has somewhat backfired into FURY at an unfair advantage for those who are willing to pay.
(I'm aware most have already unlocked all the things by now, as have I, but this also makes me angry as it took time and effort to do rather than pay a sum of a few pounds to instantly get it all).

Sorry for a slightly off-topic rant.

New mode, new * ahem* maps. Right, sure, sure. What about fixing the lag that plaguing everyone and makes most matches unplayable?
Just have a look at your own battlefield forums EA/DICE and perhaps see what people really might think of as an important issue.

Incredible, lag on a paid service (live) with dedicated servers. How in god's name do you guys pull it off?
Shows how much EA and DICE care about their costumers. Probably will be exactly the same with the new medal of honour.

@blackkraken; I agree that unlocking was the best part of the first 25 levels of playing Battlefield, but it took me around 60 hours to get there. The slow levelling system is a risky undertaking for a company as it is geared towards more hardcore players. Very few people with a job (and family) have time to spend 60 hours on a single game or if they do, it will take them many months to get there. There's no guarantee the game is still active then. So offering those players the proposition that time is money, I don't mind the choice. Said differently, you now know exactly what your time spend on this game is worth in Microsoft points ; )

Or said differently again (as Pestibug noted over msn); "easier kills for me".

What the "money for unlocks" enables is an argument towards money/investment people (who want casual above all else) to keep the game more hardcore. I know it's not exactly the best example, but as long as it doesn't restrict normal players, it doesn't really give paying customers that much of an advantage. Especially not since it takes a long time to get used to a weapon. The ns2000 is now like a rail gun to me, but that took weeks to master.

Now to agree with Pestibug, fix the lag!

It's gotten terrible since the last patch. Random loss/winns at the end of a match, lag spikes, emptying clips on people and nothing happens. It wasn't this bad before the patch.

And while they are at it, could they PLEASE fix that the button for disarming AND picking up kit is the same? When I am 2 seconds away from disarming a target and an enemy is shot next to me....my character picks up their kit and stops disarming...that's the wrong kind of priority! When close to a target that is active, picking up kits should be disabled. Strange they didn't fix this in the latest patch.

    edit: typo's

Any word on when this will launch on PC? It's been tagged PS3, XBOX360 and PC but the end of trailer implies only PS3 and Xbox 360?
  • Raznilof #9 2 years ago

@DC_UK I think there was a post earlier that it is coming to console only, hope I'm wrong.
  • flaming-carrot #10 2 years ago

It is console only at the moment, but it may come to PC.

    From the Battlefield Blog today:
".......we are also still investigating the possibility of Onslaught coming to PC."

THe bugs since the last patch are so annoying. Losing the map, not knowing who killed me, and random win/lose state (it took me a while to work out why the fook Rush games were ending after the first set of MCOM's were blown).

    Fix this please, NOW

I must say this game now feels hopelessly broken, I put in close on 100 hours, and due to holidays and a festival etc I didnt play for 2 weeks. When I finally returned to the game, and the huge update that did little apart from break it? I found none of my usual friends list were playing it, so I jumped in - it just didnt feel like the same game. I persevered, and went back the next day, and the day after. But something is wrong. I know what they claim the update "fixed" but the feel of the game has changed, and it seems buggy as hell. I got really bored of every bfbc2 official blog being met with cries of "fix the lag", but it does need fixing, and the lag (which I havent had much of, although I havent played anywhere near as much as I did pre-update) is the thin end of the wedge IMHO.

To go from being GOTY for me, to not even wanting to play the damn thing is a real "drop the ball" moment for EA/Dice.

And whats with the whole - "sorry 360 owners - not for you" attitude? First the moh beta gets "delayed" on launch day for 360, then onslaught gets the same? Is it the XBL certification? or have ea/sony got into bed? Just tell us, we can handle it - but to drop on launch day that 360 is being delayed is a bit weak.

I kind of fancy onslaught, because I do like horde and firefight. but my patience is waining.

    sorry for the rant.

Is this lag-issue exclusive to X360 owners? Honest question, no intention to start any flame-wars but haven't experienced lag on the PS3 so far.
  • berryl227 #14 2 years ago

yep i'd also be interested if the lag / bug issues are exclusive to xbox? I have had very few issues with lag and bugs on PS3. Obviously had a few but certainly not game breaking.

Is it due to the servers being under heavier strain on xbox due to larger numbers? Just speculating
  • rashes #15 2 years ago

I'm on 360 and there are a good few of us in Ireland playing with a guy in the US every night and we're not getting significant lag issues.
Get the odd dropout in the middle of the game sometimes.

    And yes. More Maps........ please????
  • Raznilof #16 2 years ago

It's not just an xbox problem and it's not constant either. Last evening was virtually lag free, first time in a week! Complaining about games on Eurogamer works!!!

Anyway the reason I say it's not exclusive to xbox is that on the forums at Dice they asked people to tell them where they where from, if they experienced lag. On the first page most people responding where PS3 users. I think ps3 uses peer to peer, where xbox has dedicated servers so that could have been a difference indeed. That or ps3 users are more PC-savy and thus respond more on forums. Or..so many other reasons, it doesn't really prove anything ; )

Question back, since the last patch, don't you have problem with winning a match when you lost it, or vice versa. Not seeing the person who killed you? Or simply stabbing, seeing the animation and blood and nothing happens? It seems worse in the new patch. But as said, last night was virtually lag free and some of the best matches I ever played. The game is so much fun when it runs well.

And it's horrible that you have to ask the question like you did and excuse yourself for not wanting to start a flame war, you didn't and it's a honest question.

    @Raznilof

60 hours to unlock all the kit? Pretty sure you're the odd one out there, it took all the people I know a LOT less than that!
  • chessboxer #18 2 years ago

    @Raznilof

"I think ps3 uses peer to peer, where xbox has dedicated servers so that could have been a difference indeed"

All 3 versions (PC, PS3 and 360) use dedicated servers. BFBC1 and BF1943 also use dedicated servers on the consoles. In fact I'm sure all EA games with MP use dedicated servers.

I've experienced lag a few times with both the PC and PS3 versions. Some of my PS3 friends live in the US so playing with them is always laggy. At least on the PC I can sort servers by ping and return to the better performing ones at a later date.
