    will be playing this on the ps3 which will not look as hot as the above stuff (probably PC) but still looking forward to this title
  • joelstinton #8 9 months ago

    @mukki. Yeah i would like to see EA release a console trailer showing SP and MP. Just to reassure me. And because i would imagine it would be how most copies of the game will be sold. And considering theirs only 45 days to go till release as well.

    Looks really nice. Congrats to all you PC gamers who can enjoy this game when it comes out.

    Being a console player myself i will stick to MW3 and the 60fps. Cannot play a multiplayer first person shooter in 30fps, no matter how incredible the textures and lighting effects look.

  • ztx_ryan #24 9 months ago

    @Raptaur

    I didn't vote you down. I actually think BF3 looks amazing! I just think it is really frustrating, that Dice has decided to make this game run at 30fps on consoles. I think we all can agree --console gamers and PC gamers-- that this framerate is too low to really enjoy a first person shooter in multiplayer.

    Yes, I could buy a PC, but I don't have the moneyz.
  • BritishBlue1 #25 9 months ago

    PC footage I presume...?
  • Raptaur #26 9 months ago

    Okay my apologies I take it back.

    On a more serious note, FPS. Yeah it's a pity that is has to be 30fps but with the details they are trying to show with everything else going on in the game then I feel this is a fair trade off for me. I didn't mind it in Bad Company I don't think I'm gonna mind it here.

    It's an achievement that CoD have still managed to keep 60fps on theirs and I'm sure this will keep some people happy. It's just a shame that the desire to keep this 60fps seems to be a factor in stopping them developing the game engine... makes me sad

    I don't understand why some of you are complaining that BF3 on consoles run at 30 fps, most of the games that run on consoles run at 30 fps and it's perfectly playable.

    Or you can play on PC with better graphics and more fps if you have the appropriated machine :)

    i always said i would never buy a release day title again since fifa11 and blops......now this comes along and blows me away into feeling like i cant keep my word!!!
  • ztx_ryan #33 9 months ago

    http://www.boallen.com/fps-compare.html

    To me the difference is easily visable, it looks a lot smoother. But more importantly it affects the gameplay.

    In close quarter combat, the visuals on your screen is updated twice as fast, and makes it possible for you to react twice as fast. With 60fps, players with the quickest reactions will be more rewarded than with 30fps. Just imagened if it was 5fps, everybody would have the same effective reaction time.

    At long distances, you will get more control of your aim. As the screen updates twice as fast, you get twice the visual feedback to adjust your aim from. And with 60fps the visual feedback will tell you twice as fast, that your aim is on target, so you will be able to aim faster as well. Again, try aiming at 5fps.

    Low framerates slows down the overall gameplay in first person shooters. The higher the framerate of a first person shooter, the higher the max level of skill it is possible to obtain. Of course there is a limit, so 200fps or 300fps certainly does not make that big a difference. But 30 fps is not the limit to where everything higher doesn't matter.

    @Ap3xx, I will bet you fatal1ty doesn't play quake at 30fps.

    It´ll be a pleasure to max this beast. IMO it should be the graphics standard. And the final tune of these videos gives me the creeps *_*
  • captainrentboy #38 9 months ago

    The sounds, the wonderful wonderful sounds.
    I bought some 'mock' 7:1 headphones the other day, pretty much just for this game. And from the sonic loveliness that lil vid had, I wont be regretting it.
  • polaris70 #39 9 months ago

    I'd take 30fps, driveable vehicles and fully destructable environments in multiplayer over 60fps. Sometimes I pause on a map playing BFBC2 and just look at the mayhem and destruction going on around me, with that awesome audio. Nothing beats it.

    Again the world is restricted to playing singleplayer as the United States. Im so sick of the same side over and over.
    I would like a game to come out in a "semi realistic" setting and offered singleplayer on the side of ...anything BUT the U.S.

    Sure in multi you get some more options but thats not the frickin same. And if the U.S. is to be "semi realistic" maybe there should be civilians or journalists around, they are pretty good at friendly fire and such.
  • TheJuriel #49 9 months ago

  • SpaceMidget75 Verified Senior Software Developer, Minerva Computer Services #50 9 months ago

    @ztx_ryan

    I think you've missed the point and are over egging your abilities tbh.

    Take that demo you've linked. Obviously the 60fps version looks smoother. But now imagine that they modified those demos a bit by adding a crosshair and a wall for the block to hide behind with it popping up from behind the wall at random intervals.

    You'd be able to hit that block perfectly on the 30fps version and the 60fps version.

    A man jumps out from a fucking room in a game and your own reaction times to spraying him with MP5 bullets far outways the difference between 30fps and 60fps.

    just show some gameplay on console without the hype editing and high end pc visuals - whats up EA? scared?
  • wanted_0012 #55 9 months ago

    ztx_ryan

    Surely though, if everyone is playing at the same frame rate, then whether is it 30 or 60 or 791 becomes completely irrelevant? I'm sure most of us here have played goldeneye on the N64 right, anyone remember how the framerate used to drop to about 4fps when an explosion went off? Same thing, everyone is in the same boat, so it's not a disadvantage.

    You can't have everything, if DICE made it 60 fps on console then they would have to drastically drop the resolution or level of detail or something else instead, and then you would be on here slating some other aspect of it.

    Personally I think DICE are doing a great job of this, it looks great on the PS3, and they are pushing PC hardware as far as it will go at the same time. Would you rather they didn't bother making you a console version at all?

    I'm pretty sure lots of the PC guys on here that have been stuck for the last 4 years with almost every cross platform game not taking advantage of extra horsepower a PC would.

    Stick to COD, I think it's probably best all round. x
  • FireMonkey #56 9 months ago

    @ztx_ryan - How the eye and brain perceive motion is actually very complex and is altered by much more than just frame rate. The demo you linked is heavily loaded into showing the differences. For instance how many games have objects with that level of contrast (white and dark blue) moving on screen with no motion blur?

    Take a look at this and it explains a lot of it:
    http://www.100fps.com/how_many_frames_ca...

    Also, there are lots of tricks that developers can use to cover the reduced frame rate. This includes simple blurring but also frame rate up conversion (or frame interpolation):
    http://and.intercon.ru/releases/talks/rt...
    (Make sure you check out the videos to see the how much better this tech makes 30fps)

    I really wish people would stop chucking up the 30 vs 60fps arguments without having any real knowledge on the subjects. As the info I have shown proves one game running at 60fps 'could' end up looking more jumpy than a different game running at 30fps and avoiding some situations whilst incorporating some clever techniques.

    @Ali360 - "WTF. that was tehran. who the F*ck dares to image a war in my city. EA and DICE are F*cked now. irans gonna pull a big trigger on 'em"

    I hope you're not really offended? I take it you know the game is based all over the world? The metro level is based in France for instance.

    I just love reading from people who can't see the difference between 30 and 60 frames how unimportant it is and if they can't see it, noone can anyway as if they fear that admitting to being less sensitive than others in this aspect would make them look like lesser men. In reality I envy people who don't care because I am extremely sensitive to that and 30 FPS increasingly becoming the standard makes me angry. I'd rather not be angry. No, buying a PC is not a universal solution. I still can't play Mass Effect with 60 FPS AND a joypad and I believe there might be no PC that can run Splinter Cell Conviction with constant 60 FPS, it's that badly programmed.
  • FireMonkey #61 9 months ago

    @Pasco - "No, buying a PC is not a universal solution. I still can't play Mass Effect with 60 FPS AND a joypad"

    Not sure why you want to use a pad rather than mouse and keyboard. This game works so much better with that combo.
    Anyway there is an unofficial patch the allows you to use a pad (I haven't tried it so can not vouch for the safety of the patch):
    http://uk.gamespot.com/forums/topic/2709...

    Hope that helps.
  • knightmt #62 9 months ago

    I hope Eurogamer do console versus pc comp or just a 60 vs 30 comparison. I will probably get both, but I would have to say that I notice the resolution way more than the frame rate. There is not a linear relationship between response time and frame rate unless you go below about 20 hz. Otherwise we would all be on plasmas.
  • Bealsy #63 9 months ago

    people moaning about 30fps do realise everyone will be playing 30fps? so it's not a disadvantage.

    sigh.
  • Drygore #64 9 months ago

    Looks amazing, and whoever compared mw2 trailers to the bf3 trailers should seriously get his eyes checked. Concerning the framerate debate: ofc it's a pleasure gaming in 60 fps compared to 30 fps. But it's more noticable in for example fighting games (where 60 fps is a must even). But yeah, as an owner of a massive PC rig i ofc aim for 60 fps in all games. But as someone said: it's not exactly catastrophic playing fps's on a console with a pad in 30 fps (60 prefered ofc), it's more of a catastrophy playing in 30 fps with a mouse.

    So, 60 is ofc heavily prefered, but i still think Dice is doing right in going with 30, they would have to cut down way more than they currently have otherwise. BFBC2 is a really nice console version. It's way easier to get COD going in 60 fps with an old engine and small levels (i still like the engine and the games though!).

    Rant over
  • Pasco #65 9 months ago

    @FireMonkey
    "Not sure why you want to use a pad rather than mouse and keyboard. This game works so much better with that combo."

    I built my surround sound system around my TV and not around my PC. Also, I gladly sacrifice some control efficiency for additional comfort ...at least theoretically because when I played the Crysis 2 multiplayer demo on PC, I had better results with pad control than with mouse. It's just what I got used to.

    "Hope that helps."

    I knew about it, it doesn't work properly mostly because the menues are different. Thanks anyway.

    @Bealsy
    "people moaning about 30fps do realise everyone will be playing 30fps? so it's not a disadvantage."

    Yes, we do realize. It might not be a disadvantage against other people but it feels, plays and looks worse than 60fps all other things being equal, so it's a disadvantage compared to a higher frame rate. To some people the advantages of 60FPS are important. To others it is not. Just like with every other aspect of gaming.
