Desperately need this, only Caspian Border is up to the standards of the four they're bringing back with this pack.
  • arcam #2 7 months ago

I wish this had included Dragon Valley, but looking forward to it greatly nonetheless.

only Caspian Border is up to the standards of the four they're bringing back with this pack.

So all these maps will also be incredibly empty expanses of land on the console versions due to the lower player limit?
  • TheEarlOfZinger #4 7 months ago

    Can't wait for this.

What other expansions do you think we'll get? No idea where they'll go.
  • Mumasboy99 #5 7 months ago

can't wait... so needs some bigger maps
  • geox30 #6 7 months ago

I would love to see a Battlefield 1942 map pack even more!
  • rashes #7 7 months ago

This new video player is completely bust. I keep having to copy the title and go watch the video on YouTube or somewhere else.
  • bobfish09 #8 7 months ago

@kinky_mong Tbh, I couldn't give a rats arse about the console experience. BF3 is best played on the PC.
  • asphaltcowboy #9 7 months ago

Awesome! Didn't realise it was four new maps! Can't wait!
  • Vanmunt #10 7 months ago

100% agree with bobfish...... maps are piss poor on Battlefield3, with half of them poor COD clones.. going to lay off this until servers level out and this map pack is out.. which will probably be another server lag fest again.
  • repeater #11 7 months ago

Next month? But I'm still getting pwned on the standard maps!
  • rob_of_the_robots #12 7 months ago

    Wake Island :)
    Non-controllable aircraft carriers :(
  • Fightclubber #13 7 months ago

I dont mean to be a massive tard but what is it with the low console player count? Its not like having slightly bigger maps or a few more players is going to cause the consoles frame rate problems or anything. I mean homefront as shit as it was had like what? 20 plus on each team
  • Uncompetative #14 7 months ago

    Aww...

Don't tip people off about that sniping position.

    :-(

@kinky_mong Console will be fine, I fear its pc that will get shafted.
  • username84 #16 7 months ago

Still trying to find the hours to play the title launch along with finishing Demons Souls.
Gaming is moving too fast for me. Cant keep up.

Does anyone know if this will function as a Map Pack (maps added in to standard rotation) or an Expansion Pack (separate game mode selectable from main menu, like BC2:Vietnam)?
  • zegerman1942 #19 7 months ago

Wicked add on pack - glad i had my copy pre-ordered. Can't wait to get my hands on the L85 rifle from BF2 :)
  • DUFFKING #20 7 months ago

BF3's problem is that whilst the amount of space is comparable to the old BF2 maps, most of it isn't being used, which is odd. All the flags seem to be really close together and don't really work as well with 64 players as they do with 32.
  • bobfish09 #21 7 months ago

@The_Beef_Hammer Operation Firestorm and Kharg Island are alright, but Damavand Peak is horrible. You get a team on there that knows what it is doing and it just becomes a horrible bottleneck in the tunnel because stingers stop you flying over the top.

I like freedom in my BF3 maps.
  • Cobalt_Jackal #22 7 months ago

@kinky_mong I said before launch that BF3 on console with its 24 players would not be enough, that it would be/feel empty & lifeless and i was negged to high heaven and told to "go back to playing COD" and that 24 players was more than enough. I was told all this by the idiot BF3 fanboys that infest this site.

Well im glad to proven right it was obvious to anyone who wasn't a blind BF3 fanboy that 24 players was never going be enough... it was never gonna make you feel like your on a Battlefield. It needs to be at least 32 players on console to be satisfactory.

I mean every map on console is designed with 32 players in mind despite the fact that they only allow 24. Go on PC and every rush map which is the same has a 32 limit and all the conquest maps are the half sized ones which are meant for 32 limit also).

Heck even DICE themselves have been qouted as saying the sweet spot for multiplayer is 32-40 minimum, yet they make zero effort to bring that to console which basically says they don't give two shits about giving console players a true Battlefield experiance and instead feel totally fine taking your money knowing they are giving you less of a product and experiance compared to PC.

IMO its a fucking joke. Its not like the consoles (esp PS3) couldn't manage 32 players. Its just EA/DICE being tight cheap bastards with reguards to servers on console. Not to mention that I am skipping on BF3 for console, its just I am not gonna be paying for what is a PC game that I can't play on console.

@bobfish09 "Damavand Peak is horrible. You get a team on there that knows what it is doing and it just becomes a horrible bottleneck in the tunnel because stingers stop you flying over the top."

Deploy flares if you have them available.
I hear what you are saying about bottlenecks though. Op metro is the same as once a team gets established at B on conquest its a massive stalemate but with a slight disadvantage to the streetside team.
  • The_Beef_Hammer #24 7 months ago

    @bobfish09

Fair enough - Damavand Peak on conquest in shite. Rush on the other hand is awesome, if only for the base jump!
  • OllyJ #25 7 months ago

would love Dalian Plant....but these will do!! Makes me want to blast a bit of 1943 when I get back.
  • kinky_mong #26 7 months ago

@Cobalt_Jackal: Fair point, but for every empty map like Caspian Border you also get some tiny bottle-neck hell maps like Operation Metro. I can't imagine how ridiculous that map would be with 32 players because most games reach a horrible stalemate in those tunnels with 24 players.
  • TagemandBagem #27 7 months ago

Shame it's not the proper, 64player Conquest, classic maps.
  • t8yman #28 7 months ago

    wtf is "extended persistance"?
  • arcam #29 7 months ago

I can't imagine how ridiculous that map would be with 32 players because most games reach a horrible stalemate in those tunnels with 24 players.

Loads of servers run that map with 64 players (even though it's not designed for that) and it is the most ridiculous game of Battlefield I have ever played. Total chaos, complete carnage :) It is pretty amusing the first few times, but now I try and avoid servers that put 64 player Metro in the rotation.

It's a medic's dream though - just wait at the bottom of the escalators reviving all the dead bodies that come tumbling down in their hundreds :)
  • tiny_Eggy #30 7 months ago

@arcam 64pl Metro has it moments, I always try to sneak/blow my way through the horrible, horrible chokepoint that is named ticket hall and cap the back flag. I can't imagine Dice having tested the conquest version of Metro though. Seems like they just added it last minute to support conquest on all maps.
  • Liquidoodle #31 7 months ago

Dunno what the other 9 weapons are but I spotted an MG36 like the one in Bad Company 2 :) nice!
  • Whizzo #32 7 months ago

It's going to be a bit strange not having the PLA and MEC on these maps, US versus Russia in Karkand?!
  • CaptainQuint #33 7 months ago

I'm confused - aren't the Limited Edition adopters already playing on these maps, or do they only have a code to download them upon their release?
  • ShadyChopper #34 7 months ago

The maps aint out yet, just dont need to pay for them if limited edition was bought
  • mattk84 #35 7 months ago

Having played on console watching that trailer really brings home just how far ahead PC gaming graphics quality is.

I don't have any big issues with BF3 maps. I agree that most of the maps focus more on COD style street collision type of clashes, but I'm fine with that (although I'm a bit shittier on those occasions).

With bigger maps the only issue I can think of is that the map points are usually really cluttery places for hiding places for anti armor guys. Normally it's fine, but there aren't enough points where the tank is the one to be feared, it's too easy to take them out.

Many BC1/2 maps were great for tanking.
  • Lukree #38 7 months ago

    And cannot wait for Karkand!

Would have loved to see Shargi Peninsula as well, it was one of my favorites from BF2.

  • asphaltcowboy #39 6 months ago

@Lukree Did you actually watch the video?
