  • HoriZon #7 2 years ago

Dosnt this game have quicktime kills ??

Looks great but quicktime kills for MP ?? come on.
  • FogHeart #8 2 years ago

The mechanics of this game are set in stone. We know our pulse rifles, our motion trackers, our spear guns, our techie frisbees, our androids...The sounds, creatures and models are all designed and are just waiting to be made 'thisgen'. It must be so hard to bring something fresh to the table as far as the AvP mythos goes. What we've been lacking in AvP for so long is a damn good story...a really ripping yarn. We're gonna need characters and plot of Uncharted 2 calibre to stop us being jaded. I'm really hoping they don't play fast and loose with the 'biology' as has been done in the films. I do NOT want to see facehug-to-chestburst in minutes.

Still, these are the fabled antiheroes of our youth, and just hearing that pulse rifle sample again makes my heart leap with joy. Dammit, they already have me on board.

let hope it`s good and not a let down
  • AhSoul #10 2 years ago

Weren't those games done by different teams within the studio though?
  • Dynamize #11 2 years ago

First PC AvP was lovely in its day. Rebellion done good with Rogue Trooper and Sniper Elite was good too.

Rogue Warrior was a project handed to Rebellion after Zombie Studios walked away for whatever reason.
I've no interest in how well they can do darts games on the Wii, or games for handhelds.
Shellshock was by all accounts rubbish, but I'm not going to write off the developer of the first AvP games based on that.

It's a neat trailer with what looks like a good engine showing off two iconic film monsters. It gets me excited and interested.
If February rolls around and the review sites say "oh my god, despite appearances they messed it all up, it's crap." then I probably won't get it. Until more information comes to light though, wow, it looks pretty neat. Here's hoping it turns out to be good.
  • MiY4MOTO #12 2 years ago

Nice. My hopes for this have been restored.

Having just played through the god-awful Rogue Warrior game, and then the lack-lustre PS3 multiplayer fare that was on offer at the EG Expo... I confess I had my doubts about this.

But, they did a good job with the first 2x AvP games and this trailer goes a long way towards restoring my hope in the series.

    Want.
  • Dynamize #13 2 years ago

Yeah, OK I'll give you that, fair point. However I'm grabbing the caveat that by the looks of this trailer there's at least some reason to be excited; and that there's always a shot at redemption after a period of poor-average games.

We'll just have to wait and see, but I'm happy to sit with a little grin on my face right up until my hopes are cruelly dashed by reviews declaring poo :)
  • [STARS]TyranT #14 2 years ago

Looks fantastic - with the whole massive exception it seems to follow on from the shocking, shocking, shocking AVP movies.

Seriously - reviewed Reqiem way back on a forum and called it the worst film i'd ever seen, because of the massive injustice it did to the universe.
  • hugejeans #15 2 years ago

Just that sound from the pulse rifle has put a silly grin on a old mans face.
Like someone has said all the parts are there to make a great game its just it can all come together.
Fingers crossed SP is a good romp.Truth is would take an alien game on its own then chucking the predator in to the mix.

"I'm not writing them off either. However, some commenters here sound like saps. I'm just pointing out that their last two FPS (both this gen) received a metacritic score of 30% each. Thier other ouput has average score of less than 50%"

Right, but games that score that low tend to be fundamentally broken in most respects, being *technically* as well as mechanically deficient, suggesting a rushed release or disordered development process.

If AvP fit in that category, I think it would be evident from the media, and from the hands on previews. From we've seen, however, the game is extremely well presented, and a fair amount of of thought has been put into the characters and environments.

So at minimum I think we can expect a fairly satisfying but ultimately derivative shooter; as opposed to a complete disaster.

  • muscleblade #19 2 years ago

That was the best game trailer ive seen. Hope the game delivers.
  • curtlikesmeat #20 2 years ago

    Little. Bit. Of. Wee.
  • pingu #21 2 years ago

The lead designer of Rogue Trooper is the lead designer on AvP, so fingers crossed :)
  • Findus #22 2 years ago

One thing I want from the game is to be absolutely terrified walking the corridors as a marine where your motion tracker kicks in but you can't see anything.

If they have moments of fear instead of sheer horror which the last avp movie provided I will be happy. I still think the scene in the hospital with the pregnant woman has to be one of the most tasteless scenes filmed in a movie.
  • stan_dman #23 2 years ago

Have to agree with FogHeart - this game needs a proper story to suck us in. The multiplayer options sound really awesome especially the 1 predator vs many marines. To say i'm looking forward to this is an understatement, the original AvP is still one of my favs to this day.
  • Ryboy #24 2 years ago

    Out-fucking-standing...

    Let's rock indeed.
  • TechnoHippy #25 2 years ago

Liking the look of this :-)
  • Doctor_What #26 2 years ago

@ BonePart: your concerns are fair, but those games were made by different teams at a different studio, usually in very difficult circumstances (patching up other developers' mistakes to get a game out of the door). Sadly, accepting those kind of projects are necessary as part of the business model for a UK developer - they need to get money in however they can sometimes. That's not great, but I can certainly understand the motivations.

This AVP is being made by many of the staff from the original AVP. It's been given a good development period, and all indications point towards Rebellion getting their way with what they want to do. That sounds like a good sign to me.

Like I say, I understand your worries, but there are other signs for hope too.

    Gief! Giefgiefgief!
  • bodypopper #28 2 years ago

Dave Brickley, if you're reading this, I can still own u at Unreal Tournament and Quake III ;-).
    Game looks promising though.
  • Roachdog #29 2 years ago

Yup excitment factor now going up..first one was brilliant for its time....Rebellion please make us proud
  • drumbaby #30 2 years ago

"Can the combined opinion of reviewers be so wrong that Rebellion's latest effort deserves such good will and no skepticism whatsoever? "

Play their PC AvsP then try reading what you just wrote without cringeing.
  • Quint2020 #31 2 years ago

This game looks phenomenal, the Predator and Aliens franchises are so engrained in my childhood I love them dearly (unlike the bloody horrendous AVP film franchise).

I just pray they've stayed true to the original movies but so far it looks like I won't be disappointed...
  • Dark_Stranger #32 2 years ago

@ bcolter - I'm hearing that - the gun fire & alien screechies (is that a word) are right out of Aliens.

Apone, I want you to lay down a suppressing fire with the incinerators and fall back
  • Kaspar #33 2 years ago

Well done, Rebellion. Since there's obviously one or two Rebellion bots reading (and posting damage limitation stuff) here, now do you see what doing piss-poor take-the-money-and-run jobs like Rogue Warrior and Shellshock do to your industry rep? You've got a great looking trailer for the new game, but people are just talking about how much you can be trusted not to have fucked it all up behind the scenes?
  • RandomTerrain #34 2 years ago

I'm hoping this'll be really good, looks promising.
  • pomopo #35 2 years ago

    EPIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
watching this make me feel sooo excited like all good games :)
  • Apone #36 2 years ago

    @ Dark_Stranger

Say again ? All after "incinerators".......?

    /unawares
  • Alba.Avis #37 2 years ago

..sweet childhood memories.. I am going to cry my eyes out now..
  • quantumsheep #38 2 years ago

    @Apone

No, he said he wants you to lay down a suppressing fire with the incinerators and fall back

    Sheesh.

    :D
  • fluff_the_tiger #39 2 years ago

commodore 64 aliens = scariest game ever.

Hopefully this will be good, but less scary please!
  • schnide #40 2 years ago

I'm not convinced this is going to work - I think they're trying to shoehorn in too much from the mythos of each franchise. I am open to being convinced otherwise.
  • Olemak #41 2 years ago

/goes to watch the alien movies again.
  • IneptPercy #42 2 years ago

"goes to watch the alien movies again. "

Tried this but the Mrs won't let me, also tried the line (While holding Aliens) "This one is by James Cameron, you know the guy who did Avatar"

    Didn't work either...
  • jambo74 #43 2 years ago

Looks good but that could mean nothing come release....
  • Emmit_Assassin #44 2 years ago

    FUR-KING AWESOME.

Just that slightly high pitched pulse rifle sound has got the goose bumps going...
