NO, STAY ON TRACK SCHNIDE!
Ordinarily I'd quote Aliens as much as the next man, but I can only say this:
1) Please be as good as this deserves to be
2) Please be as good as this deserves to be
3) Please be as good as this deserves to be
4) Please be as good as this deserves to be
5) Please be as good as this deserves to be
6) Oh go on

Miyagi: Canvas. JC Penney, $3.98. You like?
Daniel: [laughs] No, I meant...
Miyagi: In Okinawa, belt mean no need rope to hold up pants.
[laughs; then, seriously]
Miyagi: Daniel-san...
[taps his head]
Miyagi: Karate here.
[taps his heart]
Miyagi: Karate here.
[points to his belt]
Miyagi: Karate never here. Understand?

AvP (1999/2000) and AvP2 are two of the finest shooters ever made though, so it's not all doom and gloom. Hell, AvP 2010 wasn't half bad either on the PC.

The same is true of the games, although they don't have the same auteurist tendencies, mostly taking Aliens as their basis for presentation, they do respect the icy horror of the original, and attempt to tell their own stories within the canon. Actually, there have been a shit load of Alien franchise games over the years, I don't think I've played them all (I'm really referring to the Rebellion FPS games, since they're the only ones that matter).
I'm sure we can all fantasise about seeing the license used for a great RTS or an RPG, but the Aliens versus Predator games are fairly solid efforts, the originals were classics in their era (especially for multiplayer), and even the recent 2010 game has its moments.
