This has just been delayed: is this trailer an attempt to sweeten the pill Gearbox?

Cool trailer, please Gearbox don't let this game suck big xenomorph balls.
  • CygnusReactor #3 4 months ago

Cue Aliens movie quotes bonanza. "Game over man, game over."

Want this to succeed, although my faith is wafer thin.

"All we know, is that a xenomorph may be involved."
    "It's a bug hunt."
  • decibel #7 4 months ago

@Cjail I think that is their intention, yes.

In terms of trailer critique, I don't think the tone of this one suits the Aliens universe. Although using a track from Moon initially seems like a clever and appropriate choice of music, it made the trailer seem a bit muted in its attempt to come across as emotionally engaging - Especially when combined with the fairly cliched use of slow motion shots. I don't know, it just didn't sit well with me and my opinion of what Aliens should be about. What do you guys think?
  • sega #8 4 months ago

It does look exciting. The main problem I have with every single Aliens game that ever gets released, however, is that they always change the iconic sounds of the pulse rifles and smart guns. It's like changing the sound a light sabre makes in a Star Wars game. Looks like this game is guilty of that too. :(
  • GitSomE_UK #9 4 months ago

I so want this to work, we need a solid Aliens experience. This is the equivalent of handling the crown jewels in Sci Fi moviedem terms... you better not fuck this up Gearbox!
  • GitSomE_UK #10 4 months ago

@decibel IMO the trailer sucked Alien Queen danglers as I want to see in game, I want drama and I want the spirit of the films not some washy emo arse music slo mo touchy fest
  • johnson81 #11 4 months ago

Does anyone else hate FMV trailers? I don't see the point, I just want to see in game footage and how the game plays.

    Look into my eye
  • ashmon #13 4 months ago

Whats the music from? I feel like I've herd it on a film before.

    Its From Moon

Clint Mansell. To the guy who said this doesn't go with the atmosphere then go watch Moon. Brilliant film and I think it goes quite well with this!
  • StooMonster #15 4 months ago

Looking forward to the new Ridley Scott 'Alien' film Prometheus this summer — wonder if there will be a game of that?

Looking forward to this game too, fingers crossed that it's good.

Anyone remember my old colleague John Heap's Alien game on the Speccy?
  • Sodding_Gamer #16 4 months ago

    @ashmon

Moon :) Watch it such a good film
  • decibel #17 4 months ago

@Sodding_Gamer I even mentioned in my comment that I knew it was from Moon! I've seen Moon. I just don't think the solitude and loneliness fits the Aliens universe. The Alien one, maybe. But not Aliens.

Great music in the wrong place.

    Looks nice though.
  • darkmorgado #20 4 months ago

I thought it was a cool trailer, and don't have any problem with the music. It's no more jarring than the Gears of War advert that started all of this sort of stuff.

In fact I actually quite like that music. Very reminiscent of Trent Reznor's soundtrack stuff like Social Network and Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.

Note to game developers: hire Trent Reznor to do your soundtracks more often. The soundtrack to Quake was the best piece of work in any game, ever.

    Aliens The Hedgehog.
  • Canyarion #22 4 months ago

So in the trailer the blood is acid, but not in the game?

I hope they use the extra time to sort out all the stuff that was wrong with the last presentation.

I'm afraid I'm still waiting for a reason to get excited about this one :(

Best Colonial Marine defence against acid-for-blood xenomorphs: short-sleeved shirt.
  • Doctor_What #26 4 months ago

I remember people saying two years ago 'Colonial Marines will be out soon'. Oh how I laughed.

I'm glad Gearbox are in control of this, they're a solid studio, but I'm not entirely convinced this will be much different to AVP's marine campaign... Which is not a bad thing in itself, because that was pretty solid, but it could have been better.

Hey dude sorry I wasn't clear I was replying to helion83 I hadn't read your comment. Apologies!
  • kosigan #28 4 months ago

I'm really hoping for a good game from this. I think, though, that the main reason it may struggle is that so many games have been ripping off the Aliens vibe for the last 20+ years that it's going to have trouble distinguishing itself from all the clones.
  • guernican #29 4 months ago

Nicely done trailer, I thought. No idea what Hellion is talking about.
  • George-Roper #30 4 months ago

Nice! I have some faith in Gearbox.
  • curtlikesmeat #31 4 months ago

Good trailer. Would be surprised if the game is anything like this.
  • coolbritannia #32 4 months ago

Great trailer, but not for an Aliens game. Alien is a horror movie, Aliens is a horror movie meets Rambo. The tone of that trailer was modern hipster slow mo crap. If you're licencing Aliens, keep us in that universe, with that music, that frenetic pace of confusion and horror, not this awkward hybrid.
  • DAN.E.B #33 4 months ago

    This games taking too long!!!

    Crawl faster Bishop you asshole!!!!!
  • Ternon #34 4 months ago

3 words to describe this game:

    Primitive scripted linearity
  • Malino6 #35 4 months ago

@Weezer Yeah, I don't get that. You'd think if you were going to fight a war against a species who's primary defence (other than attack) is acidic blood, you'd invest in tech. research. No, no, WW1 all over again.
  • varkdm #36 4 months ago

@Malino6 Yes.. but they dont know they are fighting a war against that species. The "company" always dicked over the marines/anyone who was sent in to deal with them but not telling them anything about it. At the beginning of the Aliens film the company rep says to Ripey "..and found something not found once in over 600 surveyed worlds.." or something to that tune.
  • Stagga #37 4 months ago

@sega "The main problem I have with every single Aliens game that ever gets released, however, is that they always change the iconic sounds of the pulse rifles and smart guns."

I recently spoke with a guy who worked on the last AvP game. He told me even though they sampled the gun sounds straight from the movie for one trailer people STILL complained that they were different!
  • HoriZon #38 4 months ago

Looks very promising as long as they get all the small bits right and the co-op works it will be fun.
