    Age of Conan: Unchained, unfocused, unbalanced, unplayed.

    No thankyou.

    Tried it 3 times... not gonna bite again I think. Didn't find a lot wrong with it... just didn't click for me.

    It's a hard game to commit to. Funcom don't really inspire confidence, and they've made a bit of a hash trying to keep people interested in it.

    - You get a free level 50 when you hit 50 with one of your chars (remind you of anything?)
    - You get one level "to spend" on any of your chars every 4 days (if you're a subscriber). I have 47 of the things and don't care enough to spend them.
    - It's either build for PVP or build for PVE. Why's that bad? Because you can't have your cake and eat it. Of all the cakes you'd want, being able to swap between PVP and PVE playing at will is a pretty wantable cake.
    - End game is too easy to reach, and once you're there it's... well, it's not a very social game, so what's the point of collecting all this stuff? Meh.
    - Global channel is loud. Second only in vulgarity and purility to Eve.
    - Funcom's micropayment store is... awful. Nothing in it you need, or want, and they don't seem to have grasped the concept of "discounted bulk purchases". I.E. you can buy a pack of five things for £5, or ten for £10, or thirty for £30 (just an example).
    - Class balance is pretty unstable, they seem to change things now and then and you can't find any documentation on the classes because nobody updates any of the class guides.

    Shame, because it's actually quite a good game.

    If you like raw adventuring without lots of web-based help, quest guides and walkthroughs and item databases -- i.e., it's just you and horizon, then you might like it.

    All of that said, I've been playing it this past two weeks and I've had a blast. Just don't think of it as an MMO, rather a big adventure game with swords'n'shit. Might go log into my barbarian for a bit of cudgelling now...:)

    Does anyone know what the population of AoC is? How many actually play it. I started playing again, it's quite nice, but i dont know if it's just the server Im on that people arent around or maybe they're other places in the world. Hope the game gets players, I really hope for this game to hit better praise.

    @anicath

    They merged the servers recently so the populations have improved, but nothing like the levels of other MMOs still. F2P should see a marked increase if they get a similar uptake explosion as LoTRO got.

    Funcom isn't know for making good trailers, but this was really good. As is the game, infact.

    I've got to say it still looks impressive, today. Maybe it's time to give it a go.
