Still plenty of time to implement a Dutch karate kick.
  • YobRenoops #4 2 years ago

Oh dear. Its cringey seeing the little pauses between each of the animations...

I'm not feeling it to be honest. As a once avid fan of ISS/PES I sadly don't see anything fresh here to excite me. First of all I really don't like the look of those skill move combo's. I think that FIFA nailed it with their skill system and ratings where only higher skilled players are able to perform the advanced skill moves. The graphics do look much better than FIFA but I can't help but see that trademark robotic style animation. Regardless of how many additional animations they have apparently implemented into the new game it obviously hasn't helped a great deal. I'm not writing it off yet though, I'm still looking forward to trying out the demo.

Looks confusing. What's with all the queuing up of commands? Stacking feints?? Why not just do it on the fly?
  • DarthKebab #10 2 years ago

@HarryPalmer, you do this before a game or in the teams formation menu (think of it as the same way as setting the individuals attack mindedness) then in conjuction with L1/LB you tap U/D/L/R to get them to perform that skill assigned to them.
When people say they used to love pes, as in I take is pes1-6 how can you possibly say that FIFA although making massive cosmetic strides is now a better game, when PES became poo I tried to like FIFA then just moved back to a patched PES6 on the PC.
FIFA plays well for two weeks then you notice its shocking AI and exploits and it is just a chore.
  • Postumo #11 2 years ago

emmm looks like movements don't chain very well...
  • thesonglessbird #12 2 years ago

Wow, lots of close minded FIFA fanboys in here. No surprise there then.

Not exactly a great trailer to show off the game, but it shows off the new features nicely. All the doubters should check out the numerous other PES11 videos out there. Even at this very early stage it's looking amazing and all the playtests are getting excellent feedback.
  • Fab4 #13 2 years ago

Not enough of a change...I think i'll pass.
  • varsas #14 2 years ago

The chained feints mechanism might make them useful for once in a football game; it'll be interesting to see how this works with in person.

I really don't see how the animation in this worse or more stilted than that in Fifa?

@HarryPalmer: The chained feints are only require L1 and a flick of R3 i.e. by having some feints set up for chaining they are far easier to perform.
  • manuel_garcia #15 2 years ago

It's the animation, isn't it? I can appreciate all the technicality they put in, and good lord I used to love PES like no other, but that engine shows its age more with every passing lick of paint.

Fresh start Konami. Take the time and do what EA did with FIFA 07. It's the only way to rescue what little dignity is left for the series.
  • Physically_Insane #16 2 years ago

    @Fab4

I think there's plenty of change. 1000+ animations, new defence system, more detailed tactics, new league/teams... What else do you want from a yearly update, jetpacks?

It looks like PES is back to its best. After owning FIFA 09/10 it's never been amazing (floaty players, presentation, what seems like scripted goals, almost impossible to dribble past somebody, etc). I do like FIFA but I hope PES 11 turns out to be awesome and I can go back to having all night PES matches with my friends like the good old days. :)
  • mcmonkeyplc #17 2 years ago

Hmm I'm surprised and impressed by what I see.

    The music...when will they learn!

    The music...when will they learn!

Still they can never top PES6, used to hear that mad techno music in my head for hours after i played.
  • HarryPalmer #20 2 years ago

RE comments: Yeah, I get that you stack them up before the game. I just don't know why! Surely if you wanted to feint one way - then the other, you could just do that, and surely the situations that require this are going to be unique and fairly spontaneous anyway, so trying to predict them before the game seems odd.

Hopefully a demo will clear it up.

I also think that part of the success of the skill system in Fifa is that you have to learn the moves, and be able to perform them. Just stacking them up before hand and assigning to a simple move feels kinda wrong and restrictive.

Sadly not impressed, but I won't judge it to much based on that. I'll judge it properly when I play it.

The animation is really, really poor again. I wish they'd fix that.
  • Power_n_Glory #25 2 years ago

    Looks decent.

What will really change the game is the ability to pass the ball anywhere. If they get that right then it will make a massive difference. Fifa gameplay wise. Still problems with players lacking real personality and the AI for defence and attack can be dodgy. Still can’t score a hefty variety of goals like you could on Pro Evo but what makes the game so different is the freedom and not feeling like your playing on rails.

If PES manage to get the feel and freedom right, then they’re on to a winner. They just seem to know more about football compared to EA and pay close attention to the small details. If they can move this game into the next gen as they should have done ages ago then we’ll see a great battle.

    @ytzulu

Couldn't agree more! But while i "hooked up" with FIFA 10 for a months, i just want PES back , and have like it used to be :D
  • immateriaux #27 2 years ago

Disappointed with that. Same, pretty silly, passing where the ball pings about as if attached to a wire. And the footballers look like they are actors pretending to be footballers. Actually, that's exactly what I'm reminded of watching that video, those lame movies where movie stars pretend to be footballers and dribble their way through defences that just stay several feet away.

Really hope the final game is better than that show case, that looks well out of date already
  • K-Project #28 2 years ago

Wow. Look at the hate for PES. I thought PES2010 was absolutely brilliant and a real return to form. Preferred it to FIFA personally.

    On my own obviously. :(

That. Ball still doesn't seem really free, no matter how much the PES fanboys claim it's teh best physix evah! And the animations still look like there is a bunch of robots running after the ball. I was hoping (and still am) that they manage to take the corner and kick some FIFA butt, but this doesn't look very promising.
  • liamthemaster #32 2 years ago

I still can't help but feel that Konami are still concentrating on things we don't really want e.g all this tactical shit, All we want is old Pes gameplay with new player animations and engine.
  • Xs1ght #33 2 years ago

Keepers still look horrible.... like the passing and skills system though. Movements don't look as smooth as fifa...
  • varsas #34 2 years ago

@magicpocket: At least it's better than Fifa's awful annoying soundtrack.

@HarryPalmer: Success with the skill system in Fifa? I don't see many people use them in matches and most of the time it's redundant.

@Rodchenko: How is ball any more free in Fifa? I don't see the difference.

"All this tactical shit" happens to be a big part of the game.
PES2010 had some fantastic options to change & tweak nearly every area of your tactics & it really made a difference.
  • HarryPalmer #36 2 years ago

@varsas - agreed they are underused and not entirely necessary for the most part, but that's the same in real life! If you learn a few then they can be really useful in certain situations.

How exactly will this system make them any more useful?

Anyway, I used to love PES, simple fact is that at the moment FIFA is better.
  • Power_n_Glory #37 2 years ago

Agree with ERG1008. I love the depth of PES and find Fifa real shallow in comparison.

I don’t think the tactics need an overhaul but it’s good to see that they keep moving it forward. I like the idea of being able to set your team up to change formation and tactics automatically depending on the circumstances. Was really disappointed with Fifa’s so called tactics. Some good ideas but it doesn’t really effect the out come of the game. Games usually turn into basketball style match with end to end action regardless of how you set your team up.

Setting your defensive line to sit deep doesn’t actually work. They always push up to the half way line. Defenders have no concept of holding their line and playing the offside trap. In Fifa 10 you see wingbacks rushing back to play an on rushing striker onside when he should hold his line. Midfield maestros like Cesc Fabregas and Xavi are pretty useless. You can pretty much bypass the midfield in Fifa. Defensive midfielders positioning can be poor and I rely mostly on pace when defending with them, I find they sometimes drift too far forwards or drop back too deep if you push the arrow back.

Tactically, PES have a better understanding of the tactical side of football where setting up your team in a specific way can make a huge difference. In Fifa, it just doesn’t make much of a difference on how you set your team up. It’s all about pace and power. PES has had the same problems with pace and power like in PES 6 but at least you could try to set up your team to cope with it and you had enough tools.

This looks like a big step up from the PES 2009 I've been playing on PS3; so I'm adding this to my list. Lets hope they've remembered to put adequate training drills back in to allow people to easily get up to speed with these new & impressive play mechanics. If cone dribbling drills are missing, it won't be worth buying.

It would be much better if we only got one new footy game (from each of Konami and EA) every 2 years, starting on one platform, and then rolled out on other platforms, one every six months, until they'd gone PS3/360/PC/Wii/PSP.

Both PES and FIFA give me the feeling of shovelware, when I see them release on every platform, every six months, which is probably why I started missing out releases; buy a footy game once every two year.

“Take a break” is good advice for Konami, but sadly they are forced to match EA's FIFA release schedule, to remain relevant. EA seem to have the FIFA license sown up for eternity; so taking a 18 month break, where they wouldn't exploiting that license is probably not an option the EA development team has.
