Dear Ubisoft I promise to buy this if you release a respawn patch for Far Cry 2. Simple.

    negged? ok, lol. fair enough.

    That looks so, so disappointing.

They've turned Far Cry into a generic Call of Duty killathon. We've got enough scripted 'wade through seas of bad guys' shooters, I wanted Far Cry. The original E3 demo was so promising. :(

Ooh! Constant button prompts! Scripted animation close-quarter kills! Could there be... regenerating health?

Safely reassured I can ignore this game now.
  • aphex187 #7 3 months ago

@Liam64 It hasn't it's still there ;) well you have two near enough the same now lol!
  • Cadence #8 3 months ago

    Graphics look nice though.
  • Liam64 #9 3 months ago

@aphex187 My PC must have been playing up, god bless the delete button. :p
  • Delta1knight #10 3 months ago

This looks to good to be true, a real throwback to the originals. The game-play looks fantastic and really smooth compared to the clumsy controls of Far cry two.
  • huckan #11 3 months ago

Aww nothing like the original, you couldn't play rambo in that, it required some guile which created tension etc. Disappointed :(
  • OllyJ #12 3 months ago

all good aprat from what looks like some dodgy side characters, mental island bloke...predators?
  • Kyledanutmeg #13 3 months ago

I'd like it if they went back to the instinct gameplay, now that was cool, but I hope they still have the map creation tools if they don't because that is a thing no other games on console seems to do!
  • Genome #14 3 months ago

Is that Nolan North as the player character?
  • Spekingur #15 3 months ago

Looks like they have god mode on.
  • Wempler #16 3 months ago

Horrible FOV, and looks so very dull.

It's quite good pretty, though, but that's about it.
  • jedi99 #17 3 months ago

After watching this I'm going to dig out the original Far Cry for PC....
  • Arsecake_Baker #18 3 months ago

Why the button prompts? And target indicaters?

It's 2012 even the most casual gamer has come to turns with FPS's, yes it looks lovely but i despair at the ongoing trend that makes believe your audience is a moron!

If it can all be turned off and enemies DON'T RESPAWN! Then colour me interested, till then it's a case of once bitten i'm afraid.
  • arcam #19 3 months ago

So it looks like the order goes FarCry, Crysis, Crysis Warhead, Far Cry 3 :p

    Looking forward to this!
  • Talbot #20 3 months ago

Lol... has console written all over it, what a load of crap. Generic, limited and a style of gameplay that suits the retarded analog controller. Games are dead.
  • Cjail #21 3 months ago

    @Liam64
Well I admit that the shooting looks a lot like COD: I notice it mainly because even here there's almost no recoil at all.
    @huckan
I believe that this video simply focus on shooting mechanics but doesn't represent the entire "spirit" of the game; hopefully stealth will still have a huge role.

i think if this is as open world as the original it would be great to experience with a buddy with some optional jump in/out co op play that doesn't effect the story in anyway. far cry 2 would have been more enjoyable with a co op partner.
  • kassmageant #23 3 months ago

what do you mean it doesn't look like original? am i seeing the same video? it's exactly how i pictured modern far cry 1. without health packs and super-sniping enemies. maybe i suck at games, but i really don't see fun in frantic looking for a health pack all over the damned island when you're almost dead, or slowly popping your head above rocks to see if there is any enemy with cheaply perfect aiming
  • suzakuseven #24 3 months ago

This looks awesome. A great looking mix of Far Cry and Far Cry 2!

The twist is that when you wander through the cave filled with bats, you become......Batman!
  • spekkeh #26 3 months ago

Like a few others I'm kind of disappointed by this. The previous trailers made it look like you were a hapless group of tourists that were kidnapped by a group of bandits and you had to desperately struggle to survive and make it out of there. It had interesting characterizations too. Now it's suddenly back to John Rambo (what's up with all the tattoos and muscles) shooting hundreds of nameless baddies in the face. At least the middle part with the mushrooms and weird scientist (is there any other kind?) was somewhat interesting, if pretty juvenile.

That has little to do with the audience being moronic, but with the audience not being John Rambo and trying to control a character (who is) with a limited input device through a window with a very small FOV.

@spekkeh, as far as i understand it thats still the case, and you start off a bit crap and have to get better at things? Well thats what i am hoping for.

Looks great, hopefully it is open world, and not scripted too much (for story points and odd mission i think its fine). Still its on my 2012 day 1 list so what can i do :D
  • Pumpatron #29 3 months ago

Man, some people sure are quick to write a game off aren't they.

    I think it looks good.

They've said in interviews you'll be able to go in stealthy, snipe from a distance etc, and mix-up how you play.
That play-through shows a run and gun approach, played on a very easy setting! Plus the game is still in development.

  • Rajin #32 3 months ago

Is it just me or does the A.I really look moronic? saw them walking into walls like 5 times in the first minute of the trailer(granted it's a trailer, but you'd want to make the AI look good right?

Not that i want the instant head shot A.I back from Far Cry one, but this a bit to much into the other direction.

Where is the colour and the sound?
Everything looks bland and the machineguns sound like a firecracker gone of under water.
  • ubergine #37 3 months ago

I think people are failing to put the gameplay demo from last year, this highly massaged footage and all the other things we know about the game together. It was already on record about the player character having a past which accounts for his weapons skills. It is still an open world with multiple approaches to objectives. (or should I clarify pathways to the switches you have to throw - welcome to every game ever) hopefully the vehicles and maps work the same way. A pity that weapon degradation has been removed but hey, it's hardly realistic that a gun will rust out within forty-five minutes anyway.

I have high hopes for this.
  • Lukree #38 3 months ago

    Not actually.
  • Daikon #39 3 months ago

I loved Far Cry 2 (except for the bloody respawning checkpoints). Really am looking forward to this.
  • Snufkin #40 3 months ago

I'm liking the mix of scripted and emergent gameplay. This is what FPS games need. Too open = not enough to do, people moaning about respawning enemies. Too scripted = CoD. Can't wait for this.
    Edited by Snufkin at 20/02/12 @ 12:21
  • Yuroko #41 3 months ago

It really does look like CoD on an island. Looks brilliant though to be fair.
  • Mr #42 3 months ago

Looks great... but those triangles in the middle of the screen pointing out the enemies - Yuk.

Agree with some comments above and hope number 3 isn't a knee-jerk reaction to Far Cry 2, some of which - and i do mean 'some' - was fantastic. While I'd love to see 2's problems sorted, I'd hate to see 3 pander to all the whining.
  • CORIANA_SIX #43 3 months ago

    So...much...FPS...everywhere...
  • dfunked #44 3 months ago

I'm one of the weirdos who will actually welcome the enemy indicators (which I'm sure can just be turned off if they're that much of an insult to your god-like gaming skills!)
Currently playing through Far Cry 2, and by far the most frustrating part of it for me is trying to figure out who the f**k is shooting you...

Kind of disappointed that the dubstep has made it through to the actual game as well, but it looks awesome to me apart from that!

    Neg away...
  • pigsy2400 #45 3 months ago

the actually shooting in Farcry 2 always felt a bit...floaty!?! Didnt quite settle with me,...and the respawning of enemies all the time!!
  • CHAZBIGPOTATO #46 3 months ago

Its a far cry from Far Cry..
  • Sak666 #47 3 months ago

We need next generation of consoles fast. Otherwise they'll hold back graphics on the games that most benefit from 'em back just like in this case.
  • MisterCraig #48 3 months ago

Nolan North is taking all yo moneys.
  • ubergine #49 3 months ago

I don't think the consoles are really holding back PC graphics...
  • Garfy-Snarfy #50 3 months ago

This all looked very linear. I really hope they have taken into account all the bad stuff about Far Cry 2 and fixed it. Don't get me wrong, i enjoyed Far Cry 2 but the devs blatantly lied about the game's features pre-release. If they can get the exploration, freedom and story all working well together then i'm in. After getting so excited for the release of Far Cry 2 and being SO let down i'll be renting this before bying it.
  • overcorpse #51 3 months ago

Nolan North AGAIN!!Seriously getting bored of the same voice in nearly every game i play.

  • Retro_ #53 3 months ago

  • Retro_ #54 3 months ago

@overcorpse yeah, I spotted him in the Riddick, escape from Butchers bay /Assault on Dark Athena credits as they rolled the other day !!
  • Gylfi #55 3 months ago

run, shoot and drive. Is that all videogames can do?
  • Spuzzell #56 3 months ago

That does look hella fun :-) I hope there's still open world shenanigans mixed in with the set pieces.

I'm shocked with how low resolution the game seems to run on 360 though. I know I'm a poncy PC graphics elitist, but really, that was borderline unacceptable to me.

  • mr_pink #59 3 months ago

This formula is looking pretty tired. Sorry but it doesn't look as good as FC2 which was gritty, tense and open. I'm prepared to be convinced otherwise but this is a little disappointing e.g. with the scripted corridor shooter parts. It's looking like the equivalent of a Michael Bay film.
  • Nova1977 #60 3 months ago

Looks great, looks like a mixture of FC1 sans mutants with the open world gameplay of FC2.
  • Spekingur #61 3 months ago

Farcry 2 got a lot of outcry from gamers due to its game mechanics. So it isn't surprising that they decided to change it up with Farcry 3. I'll agree, it is a far cry from Farcry (hur hur).
  • TazerFan #62 3 months ago

    So much whining.
  • JosephB #63 3 months ago

looks pretty generic, but then there is the trippy fetch quest, then more generic killing... im confused
  • ichobi #64 3 months ago

    COD Running animation; Checked
    COD shooting/ weapon swapping: Checked
    COD XP progress: Checked

Make of those what you will, I hope they don't deviate too much from the spirit of Far Cry (original)
  • irrelevanthuman #65 3 months ago

Might be fun, but I just want to play the staggering Just Cause 2 now.
  • TRUTH #66 3 months ago

Far Cry 2 was a fresh survival-gurriella approach on Fps. Though had faults such as re-spawn, sniper shots easily detected by AI, lack of vehicle and enemy variety. It still was a good game!...From the demo Far Car 3 seems to have taken out the tense, mystery, exploration, guerrilla use of tactical approach and made it more Gung Ho! COD shoot-em up!

I hope Far Cry 3 extends the ideas of FC2, but improves with its faults! not go towards another generic COD fps.
  • Azhrarn #67 3 months ago

The only way to put me of this game is the use of über DRM.

  • TazerFan #71 3 months ago

You people mystify me sometimes. You could take LOADS of 5-minute gameplay vids from Far Cry 2 that look just as COD-ish as this. But we all know that wasn't the case, right? For all we know this is the heavily scripted first 15 minutes that set the tone and teach you how to play the game, and then they set you free on this island.

The cynicism is so bloody obnoxious.
  • Srift #72 3 months ago

    more jungle shooting...boring
  • acuratebob #73 3 months ago

    first word i spoke, WOW!

This is just gameplay right? this isnt what they want to achieve?

this is looking so much better than the gameplay footage from FC2 before release.

day one buy as of the end of the trailer!
  • acuratebob #74 3 months ago

@irrelevanthuman well if you have STEAm your in luck, or is that why you posted this? lol.

daily deal is JC2 for less than a fiver....
  • mr_pink #75 3 months ago

@TazerFan You may be correct, it may eventually open out and even surpass FC2 in atmosphere. It has the potential, fingers crossed. However, this is the trailer they have chosen to release and I don't think you can deny it is being marketed in a very similar way to the latest, scripted shooters. To merely make cynical COD comparisons is not obnoxious, it's just an observation based on what we have.
  • MarketZero #76 3 months ago

7/10 written all over it. Call me cynical.
  • Fantomex #77 3 months ago

It's a surprise when Nolan North doesn't voice a character in a game.
  • jogyourmind #78 3 months ago

  • Ramboness #79 3 months ago

looks like a casual shooter... those marks on where the enemies just says enough... why can't people just use their eyes and hearing instead.

I seriously hope you can turn all that shit off and play the game on a harder level.. instead of this bs.. but yes aside from that the story and graphics looks great.
  • TheGuvernor #80 3 months ago

Ain't had a magic shroom trip in COD yet so yous all is confused.

Wicked sound track & there is still the 'slide' - loved the controls in FC2 especially the 'slide.'

Really excited for this - I'm so tired of generic RPG's....
  • Grumpycrab #81 3 months ago

Levels shown look polished but washed-out colours? Run-and-gun stuff is same-old-same-old but the interesting bit was the green-house with Earnhardt. One of the best stained-glass green-house doors I've ever seen. Also, was Earnhardt's entrance meant to be a surprise? Hope there's more like that.
  • TheGuvernor #82 3 months ago
