Yeah ordianry tank and spank, wonderful and then people say it's not wow with starwars skins.
looks clunky and uninspired but hey SW name sells it alone.

The gameplay may be generic and nothing new, but a good story for each class lasting dozens if not hundreds of hours if worth at least the box price, if not a few months of subscription.

    Is this for real?

In this action scene the light saber hits seem like they are hitting the air.
It's realy disapponting to see how bad the light sabers have been implemented
in the gameplay behaving like weak swords.

The light saber is the most powerfull handheld weapon in the STAR WARS
galaxy. It cuts steel like butter. I didn't see any parts of the big robot in the
end of the battle being cut off.
In general the game doesn't feel or look with the graphic style they have selected
like STAR WARS. Also the missions from the trailers I have seen so far folllow
the same repetetive motivo: A small briefing of the mission and then action.
Does this kind of game structure appeal to you like a story driven game in the way
we have seen in KOTOR or Mass Effect or the The Witcher ??? For me not the
STAR WARS game I would be willing to play for.

Much as the epithet "WoW with Star Wars tacked on" seems to stick (and be a reasonable criticism), I just can't stop being excited. Fuck, I love star wars, and I love WoW. For me, that's a good combination.

There are simple problems with it, but I must admit that it definitely doesn't seem as bad as some people seem to be making out.

I stopped playing this 2 years ago.

The obligatory hate on any SWTOR video/article here in force I see

In other news can't wait for this, I actually love that its looking like World of Star Wars
  • Rajin #11 9 months ago

Biggest issue right now seems to be the targetting+directly shooting/hitting a target. This is Semi-realtime, not real time like WoW.

I love how BioWare get Kain (Simon Templeman) into all of their games.
  • Shikasama #13 9 months ago

The hate isn't obligatory, it's deserved.

They promised a gorundbreaking, next gen MMO that was going to redifne a genre and propel it into the future.

They made Warcraft with cut scenes witha significant helping of dientical mechanics, really shit animations and stop and go combat.

    Sigh...

    Roll on Guild Wars 2.
  • swills #16 9 months ago

I've never seem anything look so cool and yet so dull at the same time before.
  • Stuvok #17 9 months ago

So when does the game get cool? hmmm maybe it was just the too cartoony graphics that made it so lame... or maybe it was because i didn't see a single cool looking move like i thought Jedi would do.... or maybe its because they all just run at a badguy then stand in front of him... i think its all those that made this video so lame. That god this isn't my only option for upcoming mmos.
  • strangerism #18 9 months ago

come on guys, the gameplay looks old and dull. you've being duped by the usual marketing campaign, in this case the SW logo and nothing else. technically speaking sounds effects are crap and repetitive (how long can u sustain those zap lasers sounds in your ears), animations too, graphics is cartoon like. Well what is left...? ahh the story, muahahahahahah, seriously?

    another click click click game
  • curtlikesmeat #19 9 months ago

Yeah sorry, not at all interested in this despite a mild liking of the Star Wars universe. They don't look like they've moved the genre on in any substantial way. Guildwars 2 looks a lot more interesting to me.

As Darth Vader now says in episode IV; NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
  • Timbercottage #20 9 months ago

Hmm, this actually looks better than previous gameplay videos I've seen.... TEMPTED!
  • orren #21 9 months ago

"Why so much hate for this game?"

Because passing final judgement on a game based on viewing a short clip is the 'cool thing to do' these days. The more "OOOH" and "AAAH" the game has in that clip, the more popular it is before release. Preferably showing some women whose "armor" would have trouble protecting their modesty, not to mention health. Pointy ears optional, but welcome.

    /rant off.

Most people who actually played SWTOR like it, mind you: http://www.swtor.com/community/showthrea...

They go through bone... like butter.

Still need to watch some Guild Wars 2 gameplay footage before I pass judgement, both look good really, which sucks when you can only play one.
  • Dave #24 9 months ago

Yes, it looks like a tank and spank fight. Yes, it looks like it plays like WoW. Yes, it's not the most beautiful MMO we've seen. But I'm still excited. Bring it on.
  • orren #25 9 months ago

    @Kanjin

You will most likely be able to play both. GW2 does not have a monthly fee. It also comes out quite a while after SWTOR (i would guess at least half a year later), so it's not like you have to blow the money on both at once.

Unless my ears deceive me, Simon Templeman as the voice actor is the best thing about that video.

Otherwise, the whole thing just looks so.... soulless.. which makes me sad :(
  • mushroomyakuza #28 9 months ago

    It just looks...boring.
  • gruntboy #29 9 months ago

I've played WoW for a long time and find I want to spend less time in the game than I did when it first came out. Started to think about why that is recently, and came to the conclusion that one of the things that kept me in the game so much to begin with was the sheer volume of content, the newness of the world and the amount of fun and delight I had in discovering things.

So I look at SWTOR and I can see why people say "meh, WoW in Star Wars clothing" and have to agree that it doesn't seem to do a whole lot new with gameplay mechanics. And yet, the prospect of getting to spend time in a game world where everything is genuinely new for me, ripe for discovery, in one of my favourite fictional settings, makes me want to play this. Very much.

/side note - Dallas Dickinson sounds like someone who would be VERY annoying to work with. Far too chirpy! ;)
