@TheEarlOfZinger there's a great batch of toons just now that run with adult undercurrents. Adventure Time, Regular Show, Gumball... all three are epic and just insanely out there that they really are must watch tv.

Back on topic though I'm gutted this didn't come out better. So much scope for a great game in this series

@TwinStripeUK @GamesConnoisseur I had neither but had mates with one or the other. I was an Amstrad boy and there were always comparisons between it and the C64 between us.

fanboy rage and persecution was never as rife or as vociferous as it is these days sadly. Keyboard cowboys with opinions are everywhere now :(

@GamesConnoisseur We'll have none of this level headed talk in here mate. It's fanboy flamewars everywhere.

In all seriousness though I'm with you on this. I'm getting the xbox one because my mates are on Live and not switching, because I played some kick ass stunning looking games at the Eurogamer Expo and because quite frankly I'm sick and tired of this fanboy crap of mine is better than yours.

If or when PS4 shows itself to be miles ahead of the One then fair enough I'll make the decision to change there and then. I play games as a means of escapism, not to brag about mines is bigger than yours. Life is too short for all this nonsense.

Gaming should be a pleasure, not some kind of constant fanboy war of attrition

  • Rockstar working on a fix for GTA Online lost progress issues

@Duke_Zippy Even with passive mode activated though others can still run you over and kill you when they can't fire weapons. It's b0rked :/ Reply +4
  • vocalgirth 07/10/2013

The online side of GTA has so much potential but there are so many things that frustrate. One of my mates lost the car he chose from the training missions, did the respray, fitted the GPS and insured it but came into our game and it was gone.

Playing missions doesn't return you to the server you were in with your crew and dumps you all back into different servers which is just insanely stupid.

Most annoyingly and the most frustrating is the amount of absolute tossers online who see you as an easy kill the moment you appear in the game. Even with passive mode on there's absolute twunts trying to run you over and kill you right from the off.

Was playing last night with my crew and all we were stuck with was to rob shops because none of the missions would load. It's a real shocking mess up and quite obviously was not tested properly before release.

GTA V single player is a masterpiece, online is very very much the polar opposite which is a real shame when the potential is there

  • Is the most disturbing scene in GTA 5 justified?

  • vocalgirth 16/09/2013

...and yet still ill-informed or ignorant parents will happily go jaunting to the shops with their kids and buy this for them. You just KNOW the likes of the Daily Mail are gonna have a field day with this and Rockstar will smile and say job done. This stinks of crass opportunism to create a media frenzy when the game most certainly does not need it given its obvious quality from the reviews coming out. Reply +36

Firstly... if you guys are going to report a story you might want to at least have the courtesy of linking to the place where it was first reported here:

Secondly... having spent the majority of my formative years growing up in and around Clydebank it has no more bams, neds, whatever you want to call them than any other town around the UK, however, as everyone has pointed out already this once again is a parental issue.

It's reaching the stage where we're going to be prosecuting adults for buying age restricted games in the same way they can get done for buying alcohol for under agers. If THAT is what it takes to make folk understand that there's a reason behind these age ratings then I'm all for it.

As a mature gamer it makes me pig sick to continuously see this sort of drivel rolled out and games developers getting it in the neck just because sensationalist newspapers want to make a scapegoat out of the industry.

Too many parents even in this day and age still thinks games = domain of kids

@DanForinton Sorry guys but I'm with Dan on this one. Maybe not quite so critical of those of you who love and prefer the original, but I feel Gearbox ramped everything up another notch with the game, particularly in True Vault Hunter mode which I'm loving to bits and for me finding it a pitch perfect challenge.

I'm still trying to hit that level 50 cap (which I do hope they remove with this DLC) to take on the raid bosses but I'm loving the variety of the weapons, I feel I'm using more and many different types.

This like the first Borderlands is just an absolute joy to play to me.

  • Find out the truth about game reviews at Eurogamer Expo

  • vocalgirth 25/09/2012

Truthfully these days does anyone take the review into consideration given there's invariably a demo available? I tend to read reviews more out of interest as an article and like most here don't really pay much attention to the score. At the end of the day it's only an opinion and written to spark debate and conversation. It doesn't mean the writer is correct if they loved or hated it, they're just giving their opinion. Reply 0

  • Dragon's Dogma Review

  • vocalgirth 25/05/2012

@Simonoly @blobs always good when things don't descend into fanboy rage flaming and negative trolling and we can discussed a game's plus and minus points in a coherent way. Makes for an altogether better conversation :)

The game does have some great ideas, the pawns being one, the day/night cycle monster thing another and it is a great game to look at with some stunning vistas. The encounter with the hydra is kinda classic Capcom to me. It's dabbled with greatness and has fallen short... hopefully Capcom will make enough from this (unlike Amalur which saddens me greatly) and tweak it with a follow up title
    Reply 0
  • vocalgirth 24/05/2012

@blobs yep, all these things I know, have used and understand, but it still doesn't account for AI that is shoddy both from an enemy and pawn standing and an erratic camera that is downright unhelpful during fights and don't even get me started on trying to climb the larger enemies.

I'm sorry I'm in disagreement here with those of you who are loving it. I've played it, I got no enjoyment out of it, that doesn't make me right, just that it's not a game for me.

  • vocalgirth 24/05/2012

@UncleLou @Simonoly I can understand and appreciate the hardcore tendencies which if that's your bag are absolutely fine, I just think a game being "hardcore" because the game mechanics are borked doesn't sit well. I was playing it thinking this is a challenge because it's frustrating as hell as I'm constantly fighting with the controls rather than thinking this is a challenge because I have to strategically think my way through a battle of multiple enemies or one large enemy and co-ordinate my attacks with my team of characters.

Yes, you can change the way your pawns react in game too, teach them if you will, but they still do not shut up and act in the most random of ways. They'll heal you long after a battle rather than during, they'll buff you in the same manner, they use ranged attacks right next to enemies. The AI just hasn't been particularly well implemented for pawns or enemies for that matter.

Maybe I'm being overly harsh as we all know that no sandbox game, sprawling RPgs in particular, is flawless and has its own bugs or flaws but I just think when you hold it up against some of the other RPGs we've seen in the past 9 months it doesn't come together as well playability wise as those.

...and @unclelou, you really believe that reviewers won't be more favourable to a game if it's being released by a company pumping hundreds or thousands of pounds into advertising on your site/in your mag?
    Reply -2
  • vocalgirth 23/05/2012

I must be playing a different game... there seems to be only one other site that has come close to my feelings on the game (but then again, they don't seem to be plastered with advertising for it unlike the others... cynical, moi?)

I've not played Skyrim, I'm still loving Amalur and I'm still loving Witcher 2 and compared to both of them this doesn't come close. AI is terrible, your pawns will NOT SHUT UP about anything and repeat things incessantly, they get themselves in the stupidest of positions during fighting, you're overwhelmed by enemies if you dare stray from the roads, and let's not even begin to talk about what happens during the night cycle, enemies wander off from the combat at random mid-fight, although the combat is good to a degree but you feel you're always fighting against the camera and with no lock on or dodge it gets frustrating very quickly.

I do love the whole Pawn swapping idea and yes those large monsters are pretty epic but fighting them feels like you're dealing with luck more than skill taking them on and trying to climb them just looks plain stupid and the controls get thrown all over the place depending on your position.

There's hardcore done well a la Demon's Souls and then theres hardcore that's born to frustrate due to bad gameplay design and that's where Dragon's Dogma sits for me. It's a damn shame as there's a fine game with a fine premise behind it as well, it's just not been implemented very well at all

@JHo exactly my thoughts as well mate, but there appears to be a helluva lot of fanboys surrounding this one it would seem who want to flame anyone who doesn't agree with their opinion.

  • vocalgirth 10/02/2012

@UncleLou I can't comment on Skyrim as I didn't pick it up after suffering RPG overload with Oblivion a few years back but I'm loving this and I really don't see where @TRUTH is coming from regarding combat.

I'm still working through Dalentarth and hitting the Jottun just now and those guys in groups are monstrous dealing some pretty damn crazy damage to your character blocking or not.

What I love is there appears to be a strategy for pretty much every enemy I've come across so far be they spiders, wolves, boggarts, kobolds etc and while I agree you can get by with button mashing to a point, the combat becomes far more manageable when you're using the combos to their fullest potential.

The game reminds me so much of borderlands as @scuffpuppies had said *further* above (you're bang on about Fable too mate). It's an amalgamation of games and styles that floats my boat big style. Really enjoying it so far and I think it's a very accessible Action RPG
