Personal experience on what many have said already... I walked through HMV to buy Skyrim, saw it was 38. Went into Game (where id preordered) and saw it was 43. Turned round & went back to HMV. A few extra loyalty points dont have the cash value of a fiver, and any retailer that is gonna refuse to be competitive in this climate is shooting themselves in the foot ultimately. Reply +1

loved P3P, consider me sold! I am a little worried about how long a UK release might take though given that as far as i know P3P only just came out over here and i had the US version over a year ago. Does anybody know if the Vita is going to be region locked? Reply 0
  • IO aware of Hitman fan feedback

  • respectyourelder 19/08/2011

as said by others previous, Hitman is at its heart a puzzle game. Shooting is by no means the true essense of the game, it is always a plan B for serious players.

if having 10 doors to potentially go through is daunting, might i suggest opening the map and scoping the level out a bit? The map you get in the Hitman games tells you literally everything you need to know if you study it long enough - and the thrill of the game itself is working the map out, hatching a plan, and then changing it on the fly.

the game should be about giving the player the feeling of being a master assassin, and success should always be determined by careful planning. That's what makes the Hitman games unique, and for me, truly excellent.

i'd actually quite like the idea of having 3 days to test out FIFA and find out if the career mode is actually bug free and fun to play before i commit to the full retail price.

They should have a separate pass for Europe though given that 3 of the 5 games proposed are American sports that a majority of European customers will have little interest in, and in my case i'm not fussed about a golf game either. But the simple fact is that there are enough football mad FIFA fans who will be itching so badly to play the new game once the season is underway that we'll probably pay it anyway, and ignore the fact we've become part of the ever increasing problem of monetisation of all possible revenue streams by publishers while we dick around trying to make people to 360 degree flips with the new impact engine.

i remember having a decent time with this game actually, although i think it was more to do with the challenge of actually finishing it... i still remember a mission in the Istanbul level in which i was chasing someone in a race car (a GT40 if memory serves) around the streets on while on one of the aforementioned "impossibikes" that took me ages, but the satisfaction i got from finally beating it is memorable to this day. Granted, it was the terrible physics and handling that made it so difficult, but you've gotta look on the bright side i guess.

it did have some nice touches in places too, like bullet holes appearing in the car damage ahead of its time and the way they used the 3 different locations with ever more complicated road layouts as a way of increasing the difficultly, but yeah, overall a very unpolished game.

i really hope this year's career mode isn't as utterly stale as last years. I've never had a problem with the online experience but the offline one could really do with a bit more personality to keep me interested for the long haul.

Also, i really really hope that the opposition AI is capable of something, anything resembling aggression this year. The amount of times i got through offline games with the opposition not having committed a single foul is ridiculous, and having the odd penalty/red card in your favour more than once a season would be incredibly welcome.

All things said though, FIFA has come a long way since Rutter took over, so keep it up guys!

Good shout there mate, certainly a lot of good looking titles there. Chuck in Fifa 12 as well which will probably get atleast above 85.

Only problem for EA is that they release a lot more games than Take Two, so there's a risk of their stronger scores being diluted a bit. It has to be said though that EA have come on leaps and bounds in terms of the quality of their flagship games over the last 4-5 years.

  • respectyourelder 10/02/2011

Good for Take Two, their decision not to sell Rockstar's output to EA a couple of years back well justified both in revenue generated and in maintaining a quality output.

I can only hope LA Noire turns out as good as it looks as well, could be another great year for Take Two.

Agree with what you say about no great Sandbox games this gen, but i doubt this would have been it. The sandbox genre has been following the GTA model for far too long now, and that's the problem, it all just feels stale.

I really hope something shows up in the next couple of years to freshen things up, I'm bored of playing the same mobster/outlaw/historical assassin starting at the bottom and rising to the top now.

Feel bad for the dev team though, they probably devoted huge amounts of time to it, and if it's nearing release they were probably doing overtime as well... to go to all that trouble just to have it ripped up in your face is harsh, and losing your job to boot is just an extra kick in the teeth.

racked up over a grand on MS points and didn't get a telling off because his mum takes pity on him... i mean for God's sake, he would have had to go through the point buying process at least 50 odd times... not a chance in hell he didn't know what he was doing by the end of it!

Instead of blaming it on the big bad MS corporation why not pay a little attention to what you're kid's doing online for a change! Does my head in that parents take little to no time to figure out the ins and outs of their kid's favourite past times, and then it's suddenly the games industry's fault when they get bit on the arse!

Corrupted save files on an RPG is a huge deal; if i'd put in any more than 5 hours on a game and lost my save i'd be fuming. But then again i learnt long ago to have regular rolling saves.

it shouldn't get a free ride no i agree, if the gameplay is as buggy as it is in AP then you can't just ignore it, but as I said earlier it's nice to see someone credited for trying to do something a bit different amongst the tide of generic GOW/COD clones that are everywhere at the moment.

Without the unique setting (for an RPG) and genuinely dynamic affect on the story that the dialog choices in AP had i would have probably thought it was a steaming puddle of piss, but those features were enough for me to get past the gameplay flaws and just enjoy the experience.

For some people though, and quite justifiably, gameplay is paramount above all, so I can totally see why you thought it was rubbish! :)

Fair play to EG for giving a bit of exposure to a game that probably won't be getting much PR... or maybe it's just that there's literally nothing to review at the moment!

Nice to see the reviewer look beyond low production values and give merit to the design underneath, in an industry increasingly skewed by big budget blockbuster sequels and casual gaming nonsense it's nice to see appreciation for the little guys that are still trying to do something a bit different with the tried and trusted cover shooter formula.

the review reads to me a bit like how i felt about Alpha Protocol. Substantial flaws in the gameplay, but enough originality in the concept and execution to still feel unique and enjoyable. I was gutted to hear it wouldn't be getting a sequel!

  • Sony hopes NGP matches PSP install base

  • respectyourelder 03/02/2011

Sony will have no doubt learnt a lot from the PSP, particularly in terms of the mistakes they made (failure of the PSP Go for example), so with the right games and the right advertising they could easily surpass the PSP.

The tech suggests that it will probably be amongst the most expensive dedicated gaming console on the market at launch, but if they can give it the "I can't possibly enjoy my life without this" sheen that Apple do oh so well, it could really take off.

That's a massive challenge for a games console though, will be interesting to see if they can manage it. One advantage it certainly has over the PSP is that with the built in cameras, 3G, Sixaxis and touch sensitivity it's just as suited to the lucrative casual market, and that is something the original PSP definitely wasn't.
