Relic dev died saving wife and child
As far as I'm concerned I have 2 little buttons here that let me express whether I agree or disagree with the sentiment of anyone elses' post - I use them as I see fit, and expect others to do likewise.
I disagree that removing some of the thoughtless and unpleasant posts from the top of the thread to be "heavy handed", sorry. Reply +1

Seriously though, did he say what I thought he did? Steam for PS3? :D Reply +6
Newell lays into "closed" PS3
The mac IS more open than a PS3 granted - you can run any program you like, it doesn't have to be signed by Apple, and there are multiple content suppliers that are able to provide you with what you want with no pricing structure decreed by Apple (and no cut going to them either).
But if a PS3 can be compared to a Gamecube in how 'closed' it is, how does the 360 escape the exact same comparison? There is no option but to buy your digital downloads from MS, who get a cut every time. If anything the PS3 is MORE open (if only very slightly) in that I can open up the web browser, head over to PopCap and play games there. Admittedly we won't be seeing Steam on the PS3 any time soon, but we sure as heck won't see it on the 360 either, particularly as MS's GfW Live is attempting (very poorly) to compete with Steam on its home turf.
The topic of the architecture underpinning these devices becoming similar is an interesting one, as Valve have typically been quite contradictory. Back when the Mac was based on the PowerPC processors Valve wouldn't touch them with a bargepole, and now they use Intel chips all is well and they have been welcomed into the fold. The current Xbox uses... a derivative of the PowerPC architecture (the original 360 devkits were Apple Powermac G5s), so surely the the previous complaints of the architecture being too much work to code for don't stand up (Apple actually had a rather good API for games at the time - bring back sprockets! - plus the obligatory OpenGL).
Essentially Valve does (and always has done) things the way they want to, if they 'can't be bothered' to do something, they won't, and no amount of bleating will force their hand into, for instance, developing for the PS3 I'm afraid. Reply +7

FFXIII Japanese voices unlikely for 360
"With PS3 being on Blu-ray there would be enough memory, but on Xbox probably not."
"At the moment we're thinking of releasing the voice in English only."
No mention of it being specific to the 360 version...

Quite right, hence the question :)
Cheers for the answer by the way, I'm glad there is more to it than being made to pay to play online.

Written with no irony whatsoever?
As an aside: can someone please explain to me what is so vastly "superior" about MS's online services such that they would actually be worth paying for? its been nagging at me for ages.

Mirror's Edge - Helicopter chase
It occured to me that the context sensitive actions (from previews there appears to be a "high" action and a "low" one, and what move you actually perform depends purely on the obstacle) extends to which direction you head in... making this little more than an "on rails" button matching game :(
Will reserve judgement til I play it though. Reply 0
