I don't think they need to worry about a busy release schedule. This is going to sell sweet fuck all irrespective of when they release it. Can't imagine the bailiffs breathing down their necks did much for the development process either, knowing that their games will be seized.

There's too many competent games around for this to make a ripple. If they're waiting for that to change they'll be waiting a while.

From the review and comments this still has all the annoyances of the first that drove me insane. There's no excuse for a lazy save mechanic like this anymore especially not when it's being used to drive the tension. The danger of the loss of 30-45 minutes gameplay progress should not be the thing driving you to survive. That said, killing zombies is fun so it'll end up a renter/lender. Reply 0

Bollocks. The title of this article suggest we will all become more discerning gamers and maybe we will but that's the very reason that we'll be able to spot an interesting new title and be just as intrigued as if we were buying a 'safe' big name title. We'll also be able to spot (as we can now) a load of old toss not worth bothering with.

EVE is for people that get a boner from looking at a bank statement. It's super-complicated management strategy under the guise of pew pew in space. The ships are pretty but you spend more time looking at 18 different windows of text. Given that track record and the hyper-competitive FPS market is there really any point in what will predictably be another 6/10 shooter? Reply -3

This is a non-issue to the point of ridiculousness. Although it was an ill choice of words, in the context it was used it was neither malicious nor evident of a particular ignorant point of view. There's some far more ignorant views going on in this comment thread like Teresias saying that gay people shouldn't be encouraged to congregate (I know the point you were trying to make, it's still a dumb idea).

It's about laziness and pandering to stereotypes, not throwing our toys out of the pram because we're terrified we've offended a particular community who are quite capable of deciding for themselves what does and does not offend them.

A developer/publisher has the right to a)have their game placed into stores ready for sale on the agreed release date and b) to do pretty much whatever the hell they like to see that stores stick to that date. There are contracts in place between retailers and publishers and when a game is made available early that contract is broken and the store, indie or otherwise are liable for hefty fines.

The publisher/developer are also entitled to do whatever they like to ensure that people who get the game early are not given an advantage over players that get the game from a retailer acting legitimately, especially when the game has a strong multiplayer aspect like this one.

Why not just be grateful that the devs have put the effort into making a decent game and stop whinging because they've reset online credits earned over a couple of days?

  • Retrospective: Painkiller

  • onyx_elite 04/07/2010

This was one of my favourite games back when it was released. Although the premise was little more than plowing through waves of enemies there was a kind of charm to it that was inescapable. That was still evident when they released the Battle out of Hell add-on and there was obviously a dark genius at work as well as no small amount of tongue-in-cheek humour.

Alas, after that they pawned the series off to Homegrown/JoWood who proceeded to make one of the most ruinously horrendous bore-fests that I've ever had to tolerate. It was frankly embarrasing and a huge disappointment. I've since heard about Painkiller: Resurrection and tbh it looks like more of the same and is quite frankly dated as hell compared to current offerings in the same genre.

  • COD online to be subscription-based?

  • onyx_elite 18/06/2009

I know this might seem off the point a little but has anyone actually seen MW2 referred to as COD at all? I mean ever? Just because it's a sequel to COD4:MW doesn't automatically make it COD6:MW2. I think it represents a point at which the IW games are going to take a definite route away from the now rather poultry offerings from Treyarch.

I just found it odd that we'd all assumed it'd be called COD. Because I've never seen that mentioned anywhere. It's not COD6, it's MW2.

  • New name for Xbox Community Games

  • onyx_elite 14/06/2009

My reason for posting was a reflex I have to over-optimistic, short-sighted commentary on an industry which, while exciting it may be (don't we all just love it?) is far from 'golden'. The current age of computer gaming sees longstanding industry names swallowed in the name of belt-tightening, incompetent console manufacturers charging over the odds whilst treating their customer's with distain or abandoning their core demographic to appeal to non-gamers. Meanwhile those who work within the industry are seeing longer working weeks, less benefits and virtually no job security whilst those trying to gain entry are finding themselves unable to gain a foothold. I think we're in more of a 'ruthless progress' age of games.
