Senior Scottish cop calls for second look into prevention of children playing adult games online after 13-year-old boy slashes friend's throat following Gears of War 3 session
Just think back to school and all the 'problem kids' and how similar they were all were in terms of what they liked and where they come from Reply 0
Think you made an important distinction there.
The kid has been brought up in an envirnoment where his worldview is probably significantly inbalanced.
Most people learn as they grow up what is acceptable and can counter the issues of violence and learn what is right and wrong.
The poor kid, probably hadn't much chance or an opputunity to fully learn and take in those life lessons. Reply +2
I agree with you, but isn;t it fair to think that violent video games, Fast cars (sorry for the generalisations here) or what ever are an outlet for that up bringing, pent up emotion and tension? You know how tense and rage like some people get playing online.
Video games aren't to blame,Much wider issues are. but Mr Policeman is right that 13 years old shouldn't be playing 18 games, or watching 18 films etc. Its clear that the guy as a warped sense of reality and what he can do to people with getting away with it which as been informed by various things. Asda drops Wii U price to just £149/£199
The last 3 consoles released on the market have literally stumbled out of the blocks (vita, 3ds, Wii U), with one of them, managing to turn it around.
There are no gurantees that the next gen consoles are going to sell gangbusters as well. Reply +2

Saturday Soapbox: Taking the Direct approach
Why not?, i have had fun playing brain age, Wii sports etc. They complement my main gaming habits fine (ps3), alongside the likes of the very good mario games (galaxy especially), zelda, luigi mansion 2, donkey kong country etc). I don't have a Wii U, but trust people enough to see that Nintendoland is a fantastic Local Co-op game to be played with friends.
Monolith is a first party studio ala Retro. Mistwalker, sure, but like W-101, Bayonetta 2, they are funding these games to be made exclusively for Nintendo machines that form a part of Nintendo's Identity such as Professor Layton. They have a very well rounded group of games that can only be played on Nintendo Consoles.
It is like turning round and saying you can't include Naughty Dog and Sucker Puncher in Sony's Portfolio which is just silly. Reply +5
Wii sports, Wii fit, brain training, Prof Layton, xenoblade, last story, pandoras tower, steel diver, Nintendoland, Nintendodogs, brain age, Elite Beat Agents, Pushmo etc are all new I,PS within the DS/WII/U/3DS generation. And i guess they are a small number amongst a lot more as well. Reply +2
Effectively The Nintendo Directs ( i think there will be two, one for 3ds, one for WII U) are just replacing the conference. We will be giving a time to tune in, we will watch a video in the same way we would do a conference, and still get the news the same way. I don't think its as big as deal as some make out. Instead of getting an awesomely good or bad conference we getting a bit more sterile video of Nintendo presenting their information in way that is good for them.
Outside the gaming community, general fans will just go to websites to get their information, in which all the stuff from the directs should be reported in just the same way as information is reported across the E3 week.
Don't get me wrong, i'm a little sadden by Nintendo no show of a conference, I like all you guys genuinely look forward to E3 week, and being involved in the all fun of live conferences, but its just nintendo using a different way to channel that information into what has been a proven and succesfull way of presenting for them.
