Pretty, but even if the hardware can do this, which is likely, what will it cost to produce a gameful of assets of this quality? and what kind of sales will be expected in return? *shudders* Reply0
I don't think a "12 episode affair" can do justice to Eternal Darkness. At best it'll be like Tales of Monkey Island or Sam & Max Seasons were compared to the originals and frankly, that's not nearly good enough. Reply0
Might have backed it, but then I read this (from their kickstarter): "We've taken out complicated inventory screens and obscure puzzles and replaced them with the streamlined interactivity and intuitive design now expected of modern games".
Sorry, I just have a very strong dislike of the word 'streamlined', particularly when applied to 'interactivity'. And coming from people who worked on Enslaved, they probably mean it.
Still, best of luck to them. Maybe a decent game will come of this. My bet though, is on a (very pretty) mobile puzzle game, if not a particularly cheap one. Reply0
@darth_paul Show me a single gaming site that isn't funded by publishers. Who funds EG? (hint: see those black bars at either side of the page? now scroll back to the top)
@DwarfyP Well that depends largely on whether they get any coverage at all from gaming sites when they do so. Take La-Mulana for example which is well known, and was finally released in Steam this monday. Unfortunately most major sites including EG have chickened out from their (sacred) duty of reviewing it. Maybe it was just too hard for them and they're waiting for the wiki to be up ;) Reply-1
@Poncho_D yes, was about to say this as well. Especially the 'Characters dying in one reality and being driven mad' is very telling. It also reminds me of King's 11/22/63 novel.
Maybe Levine hasn't read them, but the credits of this game roll on for some 15 minutes. I'm sure someone did. Reply+1
First game was super fun and this looks almost too good for words. Having an expanded world with outdoor regions and higher detail for an improved sense of place is all I wanted from the sequel. Just give it to me! Reply0
The fact that you can now give a set length for a game as if it were a movie is in itself a bad sign, whether it's 3 or 30 hours. Shouldn't that depend on how good the player is? Reply+1
Whatever. Everyone knows the main reason why game design everywhere gets stripped of cool features, dumbed down and neutered is focus testing, not memory. Arkane did an awfully better game than Dishonored (Arx Fatalis) with just 64 mb of ram.

Super House of Dead Ninjas is another platform roguelike on Steam that's not half bad, very fast paced. Of course not as good as Spelunky, but what is? Reply+2
One thing I don't understand, how can there be decent puzzles (even some as tough as those in the old games) when Lara has this 'Survival Instinct' vision that always highlights whatever interactive element you should be interacting with next in order to proceed with the story? Is that feature deactivated in the optional tombs maybe?
I wish they were trying to emulate someone like From Software or Platinum Games, but I guess you need real talent beyond mere technical proficiency for that. Reply-7
Actually, what Gabe Newell recently did was make several good points about why streamed games aren't a good idea now and they still won't be in the future.
Well he's completely right about the laws of physics bit. No amount of technological advancement will ever bring input lag in cloud services to acceptable levels for action games. Reply+1
