@LOLLERS It's not just minor AI tweaks. The best city layout has already been found and it's a single winding road. It took years to find optimal city layouts in the previous games. That's the impact these design decisions are having.

It's like it started as a facebook game and the social bubble burst so they made a standalone game instead. But the algorithms are still the old, computationally cheap ones meant to be played in small doses or the curtain falls away from the wizard.

If you look on the EA forums there are threads showing that the population count is fudged when you have more than 500 population.

Delete a building with workers in it and they are deleted too.

The main issue is how little internal testing they must have done before releasing the game for it to collapse as spectacularly as it has. Disappointing.

How could such a big game be written so badly?
Seriously, how did the pathing issues and server overload problems survive to launch? Did nobody in the development team or QA play the game for any length of time at all?

No wonder the beta weekends were limited to one hour slots. The longer sessions would show up the weak design choices they made. For the money they were charging for this game they're either incompetent or lazy and greedy.

It's probably the greed. Just cobble something together for the least possible investment of time and expertise and launch it. They've already got your money, what do they care.
Maybe they should have their name changed to bEtA?

  • EA cans Dead Space series following poor sales of Dead Space 3 - report

  • jellyhead 05/03/2013

EA said they needed to sell 5 million copies for this game to be profitable. That's insane in this market and anyone could have told them that. Everyone did.

Unrealistic corporate expectations are what kills EA projects. They chase the mainstream while alienating existing fans. No new fans, no old fans, game collapses, EA close studio rather than look at their business decisions and expectations.

I feel sorry for every developer shackled to EA and it's groupthink insanity.
Hope you find new jobs, guys.

  • Rebooting Tomb Raider

  • jellyhead 22/02/2013

@JamieR I like Rhianna Pratchett. I just think this game is so wide of the original mark that it may as well not be a Tomb Raider game.

I hope it does well because it looks like a lot of work has gone into it but i also want to see it tank for what they've done to Tomb Raiding.

    Mixed emotions here.

  • PlayStation 4 out November, has Xbox Live-style subscription - report

  • jellyhead 20/02/2013

@GamesConnoisseur I agree but it doesn't matter to me. I have no loyalty to any company. They put out a product or service and set a price. I then decide if it's worth it to me regardless of the cost to the company involved.

I'm expecting a lot of FUD until the end of the summer but will be pleasently surprised if any info of note is released tonight.

  • PC players working to make Aliens: Colonial Marines look better

  • jellyhead 18/02/2013

@Kalderyn If Gearbox can't be bothered or don't have the skill then why shouldn't fans fix it themselves?

It's why i love PC gaming. Something is broken or needs tweaking. Dig into the files and sort it out!

If fans can fix the game i'll happily buy it just to mod it.

  • Deadly Premonition had "no economic success," according to Swery

  • jellyhead 14/02/2013

    @geeza2020 You're a terrible poster.

    :)

Deadly Premonition is great, it's a cult classic and if you like that kind of thing it's fantastic.

I can see why some don't get it though. It's not for everyone.

Really looking forward to the Director Cut. Swery's great.

  • Rayman Legends dev "pissed" at Ubisoft for delay after completing Wii U version, blames "men in ties"

  • jellyhead 12/02/2013

@Sfr528 Have you seen the gloaters in the Wii-U threads? It's like they're bored and have to have a pop at nintendo until they can go back to having a go at each others 'next-gen' consoles. Meh, me and my housemates are having fun with the machine regardless.

At least we get an exclusive* demo now! Yay!

    * exclusive until just before the PS360 release i bet.

@makeamazing There's only so much messing around people can take before they stop caring about something. I love Rayman but Ubisoft are doing their damnedest to make is an effort to care anymore.

Then they wonder why there's no loyalty to a franchise. Really?

Sorry, not every passionate fan is a stone-cold businessman.

Nintendo can't win really. I bet Ubisoft had this u-turn in mind all along.
3rd parties moan that there's no room on Nintendo hardware because Nintendo releases dominate. Nintendo step back to give 3rd parties some room and the third parties moan that Nintendo aren't doing the heavy lifting.

    Make your minds up, lads.

    @matts1900 It's a dirty business videogame publishing.

Fixed that for you, it's the suits not the devs that are the cause of all this.

@geox30 It's said that PS360 owners would not buy the game in their droves if they see a 7 month old Wii-U game discounted at the store.

Less marketing to bother with also.

Add in Off-TV play Ubisoft, you know you want to. Murphy and Off-TV would appease a great many of us Wii-U owners. Hell, off-tv play would make it very attractive to me and my housemates.

My main problem is with the lack of graceful PR about this. They just shat out that statement and ran.

Professional videogames PR and Media. LOL.

@scuffpuppies Eh? No, Ubisoft management lied and decieved us. Nintendo provided them with loads of support and publicity and Ubisoft management bummed us in the gob.

    Not Nintendo's fault.

I agree. Be angry at the bean-counters and ties not the devs. They won't care but it was their decision. With regards to multiplatform, it's ubisoft. NOBODY expected this to stay exclusive, no-one. Reply +19

  • jellyhead 08/02/2013

I feel sorry for the developers having such terrible management who can't even put out a sincere announcement but gloat instead. Yet again IDN and terrible PR fan the flames of passionate fans.

I'm disappointed by the delay sure but more disappointed at how Ubisoft have handled it. There again shareholder profit is all they care about, not fans but money. Shame really.

@jamesworkshop And to avoid having discounted Wii-U versions when you're trying to shift the others at $60.

Still it's disappointing and i'll be getting this in a sale most likely.

Thanks for saving me some money, Ubisoft. Unfortunately i might have other things on my mind in Spetember than an old Ray man game.
