I think it was a victim of the huge hype and hate around the PS3 launch.
Ok it wasn't the greatest game ever, but I really enjoyed it.
It just couldn't bear the huge weight of expectations.

Even worse the other store will let anyone in for $49 a year(99 if you are a company) and has a transparent pricing structure.

There is often an in app purchase option that lets you progress faster.
NFS:Hot pursuit would let you buy credits to unlock events quicker, I completed all the events and never bought anything in app.
It's an option for those easily parted with their money. Reply+1
