The wrong person leads Microsoft, claims former exec in new book
Other than the Xbox, Microsoft has pretty much failed at every new product it has tried its hand at in the last decade, and with Windows 8, that failure appears to be spreading to their core products.
Their 'mind-share' and goodwill have pretty much never been lower. Ask anyone under 35 who the big, global leading tech companies are and you'll get Apple, Google, Facebook, Samsung, in some order. Maybe not Samsung. But Microsoft have had a poor decade, and Ballmer needs to pay the price."
@HotCoffee While I agree that Ballmer is not who I'd have running the company, I think most of your points about Microsoft are erroneous. For instance, you say that Microsoft has "pretty much failed at every new product..." during the last decade is ludicrous. Laughable, really. Almost all of their server products have been runaway successes. Windows Server, SQL Server, Sharepoint, etc have all been resounding successes. Windows 7 is a very good OS and I believe has had sales success. Furthermore, the Entertainment division (Xbox and Live) have been profitable for years now. I'm not even sure your statement about coming in third in the console race is true - 360 and PS3 are essentially dead-even. With the Wii falling flat on it's face for the last couple of years after the fad died down.
Please provide specifics if you think you can support your assertions, and I won't discount you as just another raving anti-MS basher. Reply 0
As Valve confirms the Steam Box, Microsoft's Phil Harrison issues a warning
For one thing, it runs some version of 'nix (Linux/Unix). Very, very, very few Steam games have a linux version. I'm talking like 40 or so games (List of Games). Sure, there would be more if they go the hardware direction, but are there going to be enough support to seriously challenge Windows/Xbox? Not for a long time.
Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not slamming steam - I have over 220 steam games - but why people think this is the death knell for consoles and PC gaming is beyond me.
