I'm very surprised it's not more common. Most games I've played with it, it's barely noticeable when the resolution drops.

@ABC123XYZ. Totally agree, I'm one of the few weirdo's that even enjoyed Angel of Darkness(the less said about that the better).

Like you, as much as I've enjoyed the re-boot(double dipped PS3/PS4) as a game, it felt to me like Uncharted-lite, minus the humour, rather than a new Lara title.

I think they got away with it because it's an origins story but going forward I personally would like more tombs(there we go with opinions again) and a little less 'groaning' and slaughter.

They seem to be heading that way with Rise but once again the tombs almost seem like side missions rather than the headline act.

@ABC123XYZ my love for Uncharted stems from the fact that they are the Indiana Jones games that no else has managed to put together, which in it self is mind blowing.

Where Lara always took herself very seriously, Nate is irreverent and flippant, very much channeling Indy.

Can't tell you how gutted I was at the collapse of the LucasArts Indy games that was touted around the same time as the Force Unleashed games. Then Drake turned up and it was love at first sight.

Eloquently put, however, from the playstation side of things, Antropie is regularly disruptive and antagonistic on Xbox threads for no other reason than to upset people, he's just more obvious.

Anyway, I think what large parts of this thread is missing is 'context'.

Truly one of the strangest/disturbing/bizarre turns of events I've witnessed on this site and I hope the mods can bring these two back.

Anyway, it's made Skippys night so.......

Maybe it's an age/cultural thing but 'stick it up your arse' is an old fashioned way of saying 'thanks but no thanks'.

I, along with pretty much everyone else here saw no homophobic intent in those comments at all.

I'd also add that EG being a reasonably professional site would have no truck with with such comments if it was felt that those comments had the intent that you imply and I sure as hell wouldn't be defending them if that was the case.

No worries. I did the search you suggested using 'sony ps4 1080p 60fps' and you're right there are loads of pages that come up but, other than this article from videogamer dated from 2013
, all the articles refer to individual projects and developments, 1st and 3rd party, attempting to hit a target.

To me that hardly constitutes a marketing campaign.

That's all I was trying to say, before it got a bit stroppy.

I wasn't trying to defend anyone/thing , or whip up any controversy.

Maybe I got the wrong end of the stick but I found his response hilarious.

Thanks for taking the time to conversate. Cheers

Gears 1(the only one I've played) is the birthplace of 'dude-bro' silliness. At the time, that's what made it so viscerally brilliant, and at the time, pretty unique.

The fact that 'dude-bro' silliness has now become so commonplace and cliched is because the attitude was mercilessly and shamelessly ripped off over the last generation.

I think you're reaching to be honest.

A couple of developers stating that they're aiming for 1080/60 on their particular titles can hardly be conflated to a Sony marketing campaign.

The same for the moron at playstation blog getting their facts wrong, once again, about a particular title.

Microsoft stated that Forza is 1080/60 and I would in no way construe that as an overall marketing campaign for Xbox One.

I've heard you and others float this idea several times and it just seems to have grown legs with no foundation.

"#4 the Players" and "The Best Place to Play", those are Sony and MS' marketing campaigns, they bookend their respective trailers and are liberally sprinkled all over their media output.

Coincidentally, when ND stated that they were aiming for the magical digits on UC4 I knew it was never going to happen and stated so on this very site.

There was absolutely no way ND were gonna leave some graphical goodness on the table on their first next-gen title to hit a frame rate they've had no interest in reaching for the last 10 years. They do linear bling spectacle and I think as has been reported on this site by numerous developers and insiders, most console developers in this genre, no matter how strong the hardware, go for bling over frame rate. It's easier to sell.

I know it's not popular in some quarters, but, it be what it be.

If you happen to make a reasonable comment that I agree with without resorting to your usual bullshit, I'm happy to give you credit.

However, when you act like the community douche in a 100 room brothel, which appears to be your natural state, then, and only if I've got the time and inclination, you're gonna get called out.

I think you need to start looking inwards and start asking yourself some serious questions rather than concerning yourself with who owns what and what that means to you.

@Suarez07 do me a favour, can you point towards Sony's/Microsoft's 1080/60 marketing spiel because I've never seen it?

They both definitely promoted 1080p but 1080/60 never(other than the obvious mistake Sony made with Black Flag, if I recall correctly).

@WhiteUmbrella I agree but surely a re-make is always going to look better and be more involved than a remaster.

With Gears, it seems that it's actually being rebuilt from the ground up and the results are indubitably superior.

Pray do tell, what are these obvious reasons?

I liked Wolfenstein at 60 and Killzone at 30. Different games in the same genre. Variety is the spice of life and not everything has to play like COD/Forza.

I agree. The upscale to 1080p seems to emphasise some really stark geometry which got a pass on PS3.

And in my 'personal' opinion, these games at 60fps just look 'wrong' and very 'videogamey'.

"&@Suarez07 I think there's a good motive for calling it a cash in purely because it was released in time for Christmas in the full knowledge that the game was far from ready to go to market.

I think it was essential for MS to release that game in the run up to Christmas not just for game sales but to help sell the console.

In my opinion they followed a standard business model of how much money did they stand to lose NOT releasing the game compared to how much money/goodwill/refunds/complaints/appeasements/potential projected future purchases it would cost if they did release the game.

Reminds me of a decision Ford I think once made selling a car they knew had a fatal flaw in it. They sold the car because it was more financially crippling to not sell it than to deal with the lawsuits of the people that died because of the mechanical problem."

What you describe sounds like the Ubisoft Two-Step.

  • Report: Phil Harrison is leaving Microsoft

  • belziah 06/03/2015

I still don't understand how he managed to design, get manufactured and get software built for the Xbone in 6 months.

    He must be a genius😀

Seems like 'the victims' are out in force today. I met him once at a PS3 pre-launch event. I get the feeling that the reason he left Sony was because he was fed up of Sony' corporate attitude to fans at the time and he that he was having to essentially take the blame for Krazy Ken's fuck up while not being able to mention that Ken was Krazy.

'The victims' who now claim that it's all Phil's fault seem to forget he turned up 6 month before launch.

They also seem to forget that while he's doing a stand up job, Spencer was in every single one of Xbones launch meetings and he seemed happy with what they came with.
