    Looks like Scorpio can be whatever MS wants it to be. Almost a phantom machine that keeps all eyes on them.

    A cynical view I know, and I'm not entirely convinced myself but, the more they talk the more it becomes all things to all men.

    How could I have guessed, the infamous anonymous source!

    Now point me to another source.

    The reason I ask is that, that is the ONLY source for this story and yet PSVR has been demo'd for the past two years on standard PS4's for two years with no complaints.

    Every person I ask about this points to exactly the same article and ignores the fact that it's been playable for years.

    I don't know what you expect from PSVR but it ain't never gonna be the PC experience and the Neo ain't gonna make it the PC experience.

    From what I've seen on YouTube of people trying to play 'normal' games using VR, the most important accessory appears to be a sick bucket.

    I agree it could and I think it will do more. The message will evolve over time as others have mentioned.

    But for the next 18 months he wants to sell S's and he wants those S buyers to be reassured that they're not buying into a short term deal. I think that's today's message.

    And here's the weird thing, when the message does evolve down the line, after Scorpio's launch, I think it'll be seen in a positive light.

    Sorry, let me be clear. In terms of the fact that there are currently only two UHD players on the market both more expensive and heavily under supplied.

    Most of the AV enthusiast sites I visit are all over this news. The early adopters are desperate for a decent reasonably priced machine to feed their new screens and Microsoft have just put one out in the field. Non gamers for sure but 'new' consumers none the less. Remember how many ps2s were bought as DVD players.

    As I said in the other thread, my mind is blown that MS will release a consumer UHD player before Sony. Just think on that.

    As for the console games market as a whole, I don't think it's going to change the direction of this gen.

    The S will be the cheapest UHD player by close to 100 when it comes out in August. I believe that's how long Sony have got to get their message straight about Neo.

    Xbox has just been opened up to a new market that I think Sony were trying to tap with Neo and they may have just cut Sony off at the knees.

    With four times the resolution of standard HD 4k Ultra HD delivers the clearest, most realistic video possible. Stream 4k content on Netflix and Amazon Instant Video and watch Ultra HD Blu-rayTM movies in stunning visual fidelity with High Dynamic Range.

    Lol. That actually puts the heat on Sony. It'll be the cheapest UHD player on the market. AV enthusiasts will Jump In hard🤓

    I've got to say I think MS and Sony both had the conferences they needed to have.

    Sony needed to do no more than show games and let's not mess about here, that's what they did. MS needed to stop apologising and move on and hardware wise that's precisely what they did.

    Scorpio is a true next-gen machine that sounds like the mutts at first glance but once again, just like Neo, assumptions are being made. For example, Phil was very clear 'No one gets left behind, all your Xbox One games and chattels will be useable on all machines!', however we have people on here claiming that Scorpio games will work on the One, which could plausibly happen but certainly has not been announced.

    I wonder what, if any effect its announcement will have on sales on both sides. I personally don't think it'll have any, as 18 months is a long time to hang out for a piece of hardware but stranger things have happened.

    As for the games, there was nothing on either side that gave me the feeling that a mass exodus to the competition is about to happen. Story driven for most of the Sony stuff, shooty-bang-bang for MS(massive simplification I know, but you get my drift), both sides playing to their strengths.

    I don't care about VR, I'd go so far as to assume most gamers couldn't give a shit about VR, especially in its current state that consists of 'experiences' but, I find it interesting that apparently it's the new hip thing to claim confusion about whether Sony are showing Neo footage or not. Andrew House was quite clear that they weren't, you told us that over the weekend. And despite the fact that they've been demo-ing PSVR for a couple of years now, all of a sudden it doesn't work?

    If you're really concerned, other than attempting to create a meme, as a journalist, surely you ask the question to the people with answers rather than 'create' additional confusion.

    Either way, Zelda will be game of the conference without Nintendo even really trying.

    TLDR: too much time on my hands

    EDIT: New story on front page says no Scopio exclusives. Fair enough

    @FMV-GAMER

    Thank you for an exceptionally comprehensive and informative response. An shining example of what this place could be.

    I've got a reference level 4K HDR tv that my PS4 looks lovely on. I have no doubt the Neo is gonna look even lovelier on it but as I suspected, the specs just don't warrant the hype.

    It's not all doom and gloom though, there are some positives, I suppose.

    Last question, in all of this, the only person to mention HDR and and a wider colour gamut is CaptainT.

    Is this being currently being used in the PC gaming space? And once again wouldn't this also cause a bandwidth issue?

    Once again thanks for taking the time.

    Why do you ask mate?
    Because when I want to learn about something I like to ask people that know what they're talking about!😉 Most appreciated.

    So in your 'educated' opinion do you think that the Neo can deliver the performance levels that many are having wet dreams about since its announcement?

    Especially considering that announced spec, particularly with regards to the CPU and bandwidth boosts don't quite seem adequate.

    I have stated previously that if Neo only does 1440p/30 for games but has a UHD drive in it, they'd be taking the piss calling it the PS4k and they will get stung for it.

    I'd rather they wait 12 months a go BIG, like Scorpio.

    @IronSoldier

    The mainstream comment is based on your response to SuperShinobi re 60fps.

    I agree with your assessment of Neo but that's my point. There will still be kvetching about those very titles you've listed not running at 60. In which case, the Neo will have solved nothing.

    Once I got my head around the news of Neo my first thought, based on the spec, was OK, it appears to be a cheap design win based on AMD moving to new architecture, that will offered to all platforms, only Sony announced/leaked first.

    I figured they'd just phase out the old spec and Neo would just become PS4. The news that they intend to sell both machines for the remainder of this gen seems pointless.

    This site is full of comments like, 'Ooooh, I'll wait to play this on Neo at a locked 60', like it's been set in stone. I just think there's gonna be a lot of disappointment when reality hits home.

    As we've both stated, Scorpio appears to be a real game changer in a manner that Neo(as announced) just doesn't.

    @IronSoldier

    What is it about you or anyone that posts on this site makes you think you're mainstream?

    No one that posts on gaming websites is mainstream or a typical gamer. We're a niche group of enthusiasts that happen to be a tiny but vocal subsection of the market.

    Don't have current figures but imagine there are 5 million current gen console/PC gamers in the Uk. Now look at the membership numbers of this popular and relatively well regarded site and others.

    There's not a damn thing mainstream or typical about us.

    Moving on, a 6tflop Xbox for 2017 sounds like a next-gen machine in all but name. A genuine hardware step forward from the One, fully back/forward compatible as has been discussed recently.

    Neo sounds like an awkward money grubbing sidestep that will warm over current games but not be allowed to have games of its own.

    Not being a hardcore tech geek but reading between the lines/watching DF videos there's nothing I've seen spec-wise that's gonna give you Uncharted 4K or Uncharted @60. I don't think the memory bandwidth will be sufficient but am happy to be proved wrong

    If this true, then I expect more shiny @30, which still doesn't address your need for 60. So what's the point?
