Anyway, these games always produced more tension and abject fear than any number of survival horror games.
I often felt like I was running away from danger, or around it, more than being aggresive but it was no less rewarding for it. With the huge expanse to play with it was great to try different approaches to tricky situations.
My PC gaming fell by the wayside many years ago but I did try the Xbox version of the original game. It was probably a stretch to far, with the controller valliantly trying to replicate all the commands and the engine breaking at the seams.... Still a vastly superior effort than the limp reboot which simply sullied the name. Reply+11
Yea, I guess Move already has that. If you're going to go the whole hog with an omni directional treadmill then some more imaginative methods for other controls would be interesting too, providing they remain intuitive and responsive. Reply0
Jumping/ducking - add motion control a la kinect and voice commands to swap weaponry. Actually, acting out reaching back over shoulder to swap weapon and acting out interactions eg. doors etc could work.
Not sure about the orgasmatron in the corner of my room though. Reply+4
Any minimum age restriction? I can steer the kids around some of the less appropriate material (who am I trying to kid) but it has been many years since I visited a show - maybe Earls Court in the early 2000s (!). Am I in for a rude awakening or a warm all-enclusive EG welcome? Reply0
Played Journey through with, I'm pretty sure, one person (got some sort of longterm fellow traveller trophy) right through to completion and then sat there for some time revelling in the afterglow.
Never played it since. STILL my Game of the Year. Left more impact than anything else I've played.
Fallout 3 still my favourite of this gen though. Reply+5
Both of my local stores have really decent staff - in fact just bought a wireless pad last night. I'd gone in the night before and found they only had one in the other store. Assistant offered to bring it over for the following evening as she passes the other store on the way to work. Thought that was pretty decent really.
Shame, it's generally the ground troops that pay the price of crazy management pricing decisions. Reply+4
Played this so much on C64 but never perfected the outcome. I would play with headphones on, mainly to shut out any peripheral noise and focus on the game. One family gathering, I was sat immersed and let out a scream (I was 13 at the time) and it nearly gave my Gran a heart attack. I can still see the panicked looks of the family rushing to help the ashen faced old dear!
Excellent spiritual successor to 3d Monster Maze.
Alien Resurrection on Ps1 was the only other Alien game that really did a good job of ramping up the tension. Reply+12
This news lands in the middle of the Disney Infinity launch hype.... classic bad news distraction policy.
Not surprised, though saddened, since the last game really took a hammering. What could have been a fruitful partnership never blossommed really. Reply0
@StooMonster Think you are on the money. Inverted pentagram, parts of the Reich's fascination with the occult... Some sort of Supernatural sniper? Or a lone sniper sent in to infiltrate/eliminate the occult loving nazi ranks?
Hmmm... Yet to be convinced these would be worth making tbh. Reply+1
I still have my Judge Dredd ZX Spectrum adventure game opus around on a old C-30 somewhere.... Penned by my own feverished adolescent hand in the mighty 'The Quill' adventure creation software.... Reply+1
Oh shit.... Managed to keep the kids off the Skylanders bandwagon - even with the peer pressure. But this? Sure, it probably wouldn't have taken this guise had it not been for Skylanders but if it gets the various elements right then it could be unstoppable.

Cheers for that. Not sure I'll be able to use the ruse of a 'longer than expected' trip to Tesco so I may be going mob-handed. Reply +2

One point. I'd put 3D Monster Maze as an earlier version of survival horror (ZX81) - now I am showing my age!

Yes, Freedom Fighters was great and it would be great to revisit, but do you mean Rogue Trooper and not Rogue Warrior? Reply +4
