A million fucking Skylines a good game does not make. GT has been hiding its failings behind big car numbers since GT3, while others concentrate on making great games. Reply+2
My honest opinion is that GT5 was overcome by ambition. No matter the length of time until it (finally) got released, it couldn't live up to the vision that Polyphony laid out for it.
GT5 looked amazing (if you chose the right cars), had damage (if you chose the right cars), had beautiful interior views (if you chose the right cars), had dynamic weather (on certain tracks), had a day/night cycle (on certain tracks)...
These caveats left a bad taste in my mouth, when I was teased with a car that I wanted to drive or a track that I wanted to drive on but found I was then limited in my experience. I found it be somewhat of a soulless experience in the end. PD should have been less stubborn in their attempt to be the definitive console racer by way of pure volume of choice and sacrifice quantity for quality, leaving a much more complete experience.
I'm hoping this comment doesn't start the usual nonsense you see in these threads, but the development of a complete package is something Turn10 managed to do very well with Forza. The cars and tracks are all to the same standard (albeit lower than GTs in some cases, such as weather) which leaves you feeling that no matter what you choose to play with and where you play it, you know you'll love it. @bristolmunkeh Good to know, cheers. Those are what makes me think it would be good to get the 820. The 928 looks to be lighter and have a better design, though.
I'll see what is announced at this event on Tues and make a decision after that. Reply-1
@Bander Couldn't really give a toss what EG thinks, tbh. It's a communication device for me, and the tech websites seem to think the Lumia range and WP is actually pretty good, and so do I. Reply-2
@frazzl how is the Lumia 920? As an 800 owner I'm debating between the 820 and 920 for the upgrade. Prefer the design and weight of the 820, but the 920 has some good power.
Hoping the 928 will also come to the UK market. Reply+11
Ok, so I run quite a lot and because of that I need to buy running shoes quite frequently. I buy mine from an independent retailer and they cost maybe £20 more than online, each year. But I'm happy to pay that because they talk to me, discuss what I need based on my gait and the type of running I do. The service is worth that extra 20% in my opinion.
Now GAME should aim for a similar approach - discuss games, recommend games, have a good old chat about what's awesome. In my experience, however, and I know this is a sweeping generalisation and certainly not true of all their staff, they're miserable little oiks with no desire to do much work for their pay. And the ones that do know and care about gaming have some massive superiority complex about it - probably GAFers.
I have definitely met some good ones, and found the chaps at Gamestation to be great at advice for the ill-informed. But the bad experiences of myself and those I've spoken to far outweigh the good. Reply+2
@StooMonster But the wording of that email doesn't remotely hint to online activation. In fact it steers the other way saying that playing games should just work without a connection.
Not saying it won't happen, but there is nothing in that leak to lead anyone to that assumption. Seems like a desperate attempt to cling on to the revenue-rich controversy. Reply+6
@Cringles88 Yeah, me too. I never sell or buy used, but I am an avid renter. I think the policies for rentals would account for this, though. The rental firms (LoveFilm etc.) have to purchase a copy specific to rental even now, at a much higher cost than at retail. Reply+1
So EG manage to do the same thing as Kotaku, which is to develop another rumour about the activation of games, by looking at what a reported leak DOESN'T say.
Good effort. It also remains cagey about it's crochet capabilities, so let's start a rumour about that too.
Plenty of hatred for this news, I'm sure. But quite frankly I've found most of the CoD campaigns to be solidly entertaining, and while I won't be buying I do look forward to renting it. Reply+10
About the Start screen taking up too much room on the screen compared to the Start menu - does it matter? When you had a Start menu did you really need to look at the rest of the screen?
And while having the two environments is a bit disjointed, you would certainly see desktop users complaining that they didn't have access to the metro apps, or even the touch screen interface if they had a tablet/laptop hybrid. Reply+1

I was a bit worried about the lack of apps coming from iOS, but aside from the odd couple of big hitters it does everything I need. Reply 0

Microsoft's Entertainment Division revenue has increased 56 per cent since last year
I prefer the Xbox first party multiplayer games to the PS3, Wii and I'm not going to get involved in PC gaming anymore.
So I'm not going to get upset about a £27 a year subscription when I enjoy what it provides. Reply -2
