  • Xbox One shows flickers of visionary promise but misses an opportunity to prove it with games

  • albo 22/05/2013

It's very interesting to see the contrasting reactions by the gaming media and on gaming forums all around the internet where the reception has been almost all negative as opposed to the mainstream media who are praising it.

    http://www.kotaku.com.au/2013/05/xbox-one-the-mainstream-media-reacts-are-we-the-20-percent/

Despite the negative reception from gamers, I still think this thing is going to sell like hotcakes with it being aimed at the average joe on the street who plays the occasional COD/Fifa and uses the media apps on xbox. microsoft knew gamers would react like this, but it seems like they don't care about what we think about the anti consumer practices and neither does their actual target market. They're target market is easily wowed by corporate buzzwords and market speak, fake cheering from the crowds and a multi-media devices that can do everything.

It's clear we are the minority.

  • Face-Off: Need for Speed: Most Wanted on Wii U

  • albo 29/03/2013

    @makeamazing £34 at the Hut.

Granted, it's still £20 more expensive but it does have all the DLC i'f i'm not mistaken and these improved features. It's sure to go down in price very soon like most other Wii U ports anyway.

  • Annualised Assassin's, next-gen and ploughing fields: the boss of Ubisoft Montreal

  • albo 29/03/2013

"The excitement is a lot less than it used to be. You want to keep people excited. You gotta make people miss it a bit. It's like, 'Oh man! I'm so happy it's back!' But if you keep force-feeding to people then people are like, 'Yeah, enough of your Assassin's Creed'."

It's a real shame business did come out and override his views. Reading about him trying to justify it in the interview later, when he still probably thinks the opposite, because he's forced to by ubisoft is sad. The suits have done it again. Hopefully more indie dev scene thrives so they so they can be the ones calling the shots one day.

Ubisoft's justification is like trying to say releasing GTA annually would help business, whereas it would probably run the franchise into the ground. People would get tired quickly of it. I'd have preferred much more if Ubisfot had a normal release cycle a huge budet game like AC should.

Because of all this, AC4 wll probably be the first AC i won't preorder, buy on release or maybe not buy at all. Great, new experience are on the horizon, and i don't want to play one of been playing for over a hundred hours every year.

  • HMV bundles Wii U Premium and Zombi U for just £199

  • albo 22/03/2013

I'm contemplating going out to buy one with this offer, but i'm wondering whether the price will drop even further by summer or autumn or will it rise as new games are released and it sells better? Bear in mind in the UK shops set the price.

I'd prefer to get it in the summer as i'll have time to play it more but not if the price will be higher than this offer. Apparently these shops are losing money selling it as this price but need to as it takes up valuable warehouse space sitting there and they need to clear the stock for stuff that will sell. I don't see them lowering it any further so should i take advantage of this deal considering it's probably even cheaper given that HMV are going into administration?

Thoughts? Now for cheapest price or later?

  • Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director's Cut for Wii U confirmed, and yes, they've fixed the boss battles

  • albo 20/03/2013

Will those who played Human Revolution when it released nearly two years ago buy the game again for Wii U?
Having finished the game three times now and currently playing through it a fourth time, absolutely yes. One of my fave games this gen and the improvements and extra content definitely justify the purchase for me.

I feel like I'm the only person who didn't mind the boss battles, because they were so different. I spent most of the game stealthing and exploring so if was nice to rain down bullets for a change. Even the one battery charge limit i didn't mind much since i explored so much, i had bars that i would find to recharge it most of the time.

The directors commentary sounds pretty interesting and i missed out on the missing link DLC but i hope it'll around the £30 range instead of full price

  • Why publishers refuse games such as Remember Me because of their female protagonists

  • albo 19/03/2013

It would be interesting to see how well a COD or console AC game would sell if the main character were female. One that isn't stereotyped or oversexualised if the big name publsihers had the balls to in this backwards era of triple A gaming.

Gears 3 didn' do such a bad job at it's portrayal of females surprisingly IIRC in a game full of macho, space marines. Maybe because it was written by a female but still surprised Epic went along with it. The again they were just side characters.

The quality and appeal of the game overall is what attracts me to a game, not the sex of the main character so it's ridiculous to think that publishers shaft games because of the sex of the main character.

People wouldn't care if a book or an album just because the main character is female or it was written by a female although the film and music industry is just as guilty as games in stereotyping and oversexualising females. films much less though, but it depends on the director. That's why i think the publishers that refused Remember me were probably the like of EA, Acti, take two and other big hitters. We have to remember though that this is a new IP, that isn't a modern FPS war game with tacked on multiplaer so most of these pubs would have been reluctant to publish it even if the main character were male.

  • Deus Ex: The Fall domain registered by Square Enix

  • albo 06/03/2013

With all these deus ex names and domains, one of them's bound to be another new game.

With Theif due out in 2014 and being worked on at Eidos Montreal, it makes me skeptical we'll see a new deus ex in the same year, especially with them just snapping up the domains now which suggests they're early in development. This only leads to a better quality game of course but at the same time DE:HR was such a good unique game, that i'm very eager to player another.

I did read somewhere yesterday that Eidos Montreal has around 350 employess, split into small teams, which is more than enough to be working on Theif and next gen Deus ex:)

  • The big interview: Sony's Shuhei Yoshida on PS4

  • albo 24/02/2013

Eurogamer: Ha! You're usually very good on Twitter, and usually very open with people whereas a lot of execs are very closed, so I wanted to ask you whether you're aware of Kazification and what you make of it?

    Shuhei Yoshida: Kazification, yeah!

Eurogamer: Do you know what Kaz Hirai himself makes of Kazification?

Shuhei Yoshida: Yeah, so I was talking with Stephen [Totilo] from Kotaku and they have a mashup of them, so he tweeted me and told me to send it to Kaz, so I sent it to Kaz and Kaz didn't reply. So I don't know if it was Kaz's assistant who saw it and didn't forward it to Kaz, but I'm sure when he sees them he'll just laugh.

Eurogamer: You don't have a private mailing list where you send each other funny pictures?

Shuhei Yoshida: [Laughs] No, of course, unfortunately. He's a busy guy.
    This made my day.

It's a shame Yoshida probably had to hear all thhat cynicism and grumpiness directed at the meeting within the podcast and tom's articles after he was so nice to him in this interview.

hopefully at some point all those people out there using them will get bored of shodddy motion controlled games just like most got bored of the wii even though it was great. the big three will be eager then to innovate with some sort of nw gimmick that comes with new tech. Virtual reality headsets, room illuminators etc Reply 0

They're still going to cater to us who prefer traditional gaming methods i think so they're neglecting us. It's probably just natural for companies to try and expand their audience as much as they can with all these pointless new features so they can market the machine easier while still catering for us gamers.
