I like EGs not so subtle nudge-nudge wink-wink in the last sentence of the article!

So looks like we'll get a 'proper' Metroid game on the NX.

  • Don't worry, Nintendo's still making Pikmin 4

  • adinus 07/07/2016

Pikmin 3 was the most played 2 player game in our household - bingo battle caused no end of fun.

I've sold my Wii U now, so really hoping this is an NX launch title.

I'm a bit late coming into the comments here and it may have been mentioned, but...

Is this Nintendo bringing in parity between the 3DS and Wii U controller layouts so the 3DS can be used as an additional Wii U controller?

  • The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword Review

  • adinus 11/11/2011

@Ford_Assassin would have been interesting to see if reviewers would have been happy with Nintendo and commentators were as dismissive as you if they'd made Link a lefty in Skyward Sword like he has been in every other game prior to Wii.

"just hold the Wiimote in your left hand, what's your problem?"

"does it really matter the character on screen isn't holding the weapon in the same hand as you hold the Wiimote?"

@CrispyXUK I know I can play with the Wiimote in my left hand.

But when you've got 1-to-1 movement being mapped onto a sword, I think the character on screen should have said sword in their left hand too. Otherwise there's a disconnect for the player. Unless you're fortunate enough to have a dominant right hand, I think this'll detract from the overall game experience.

The Wii is the most ambidextrous of the consoles, so I think Nintendo have copped out with this one.

The lack of left-handed mode in this game means there's no way I'll be able to enjoy it in the same way as a right-handed player. 1-to-1 motion control means holding the Wiimote in my left hand will be weird when Link has the sword in his right. My right hand just doesn't work as dextrously as my left so holding the Wiimote in it will just feel... awkward.

For this reason alone I don't think the game deserves a 10 at all - a 9, maybe. Nintendo have deserted 10% of their fan base in what seems like sheer laziness. This game has been in development for so many years, you'd think that they would have been able to come up with a solution.

I've been watching the rating of my comment see-saw from +ve to -ve and back again. I'd love to know if the people negging me are unsympathetic right-handers (who aren't affected at all by my qualms) or actually lefties who don't think it's a problem.

My point was - the score EG have given insinuates that this is a perfect game. I think the lack of choice when it comes to having Link mirroring your handedness is a fundamental technical flaw in the game that Nintendo should be criticised for. Especially since they could have mirrored the whole world like they did with Twilight Princess on the Wii. They did this to make the experience better for right-handed players as the game was developed with Link being left-handed, as he always had been.

Maybe I'm being petty here, but the reason Link is now suddenly right-handed is because Nintendo recognise that the vast majority of players are right-handed too and they wanted Link to reflect this. With motion controls now being mapped 1-to-1 between the Wiimote and his sword this makes sense. Fair enough. But... this has been to the detriment of me and potentially other lefties. The lack of a left-handed mode makes this game less than perfect and therefore it doesn't deserve a 10. Though I'm sure that if and when I get around to playing this game I'll still love it.

I'll forever blame my mum for passing her cack-handedness on to me.

I played this at one of the preview events in Manchester and was completely flummoxed.

Why oh why did they include tilt controls when, by the very design of the console, tilting it away from the 3D sweet spot will cause the image to split and the 3D effect disappear?

    Epic fail.

Bit of a tangent, but if anyone's in Manchester they're filming bits of this film on Dale Street in 2 weeks.

This may sound like a stupid question, but how on earth does someone actually go about rating a game?

Hypothetical situation - there's a nice cutesy game out there which takes 20 hours to complete (Mario Galaxy for arguments sake). That's a loooong looong time for someone to play through to check Mario doesn't say fuck shit or bugger. Especially if that's an Easter Egg (like the GTA blowjob).

  • adinus 17/12/2008

Thankfully there is someone out there 'with quite a lot of time on their hands' - the less advertising bends the truth, the better.

This is a very ill thought out, wanky-toned rant at the ASA and the person who complained. From the article is seems very much like Ellie's siding with EA for some reason. Fuck knows why when duping people into thinking a product does something it clearly doesn't is something they should be given a slap on the wrist for.

At least EG staff do actually read comments on here, though, and have responded. Wonder if it'll make a blind bit of difference to Ellie, mind?
