@5h1nj1 Alas this is Eurogamer's review style. They do tend to be written like classic novels rather than technical analyses. Best to wait for Digital Foundry for that though, cos I found this an enjoyable read and pretty much spot on. Reply0
"...even though the Victorian period feels really gothic."
o_o Do these people even know what the word 'gothic' actually means or are they just using it to describe anything that's alternative?
Oh wait they are appealing to the mainstream and 'modern console gamers', yeah now it makes sense. I cannot describe how much this kind of talk annoys me as a fan of all the previous Thief games, but from the footage the game still looks good so hopefully they'll pull it off. Reply+43
This review is having more of an identity crisis than the movie. It complains about the lack of video game references past the first half an hour and then suggests it lacks coherency... I ask how coherent the film would be if it became a novelty gag reel aimed solely at gamers?
Do I wish there were more appearances of bowser and sonic and the gang? Sure. Do I wish there was about twenty minutes less of Sugar Rush? Yep. But in my opinion the film really comes into its own PAST the first thirty minutes: a heart warming tale of paternal love (itself a game reference perhaps considering how many games are churning out that theme effectively at the moment) that rises above Toy Story levels of "HEY look here's another toy from your childhood, oh and another!" to become its own flawed but enjoyable gem of a film that is one of my faves of the past few years. Agreed, I enjoyed Final Fantasy 13 despite its many shortcomings, but the universe is dull and the characters even more so. Please move on to a new one. Reply+6
Incredible game. If, like me and so many others, you grew up lost in the stories of Final Fantasy games, the nostalgia will hit you like a bombshell. I wasn't expecting to be that effected, mainly because I have the VII, VIII and IX soundtracks already, but man...I shed tears.
And they weren't even burly man tears either. I weep for the Final Fantasy series that has indeed lost its way...but also for my childhood, which was spent more in fantasy than in real life. And I'm a better person for it...maybe. Reply+5
Woo can't wait. I don't want to disclose just how many hundreds of hours I've sunk into the last two games but eh, let's just say it was the best value game I've ever bought. Reply+4
This is very sad, Socom 2 will forever live in my memory as my first online game (and it was wonderful, way better than most online shooters this gen).

Excellent review and as a huge fan of the game (new fan I might add, didn't play either of the others until a few weeks ago). 9/10 is the right score, as it doesn't quite cut it for the magical 10 but is such a superb, polished piece of entertainment that an 8 would sell it short. Reply-6
Someone disagrees with me, they must be taking bribes! The entire world is against me! Waaaa!
Seriously though, Diablo 3 is a masterpiece and if self-entitled gamers who think they own the rights to the game they are buying (see the entire Mass Effect 3 ending insanity) ever get over the fact that it is an online game not a single player game, things will be better for it. Reply-11
