One of the admins will join you up and then post on the wall or in the forums to get yourself known.

It's a little quiet at the moment in the lead up to HoW but we are still running a few raids each week and there's even been a little team Iron Banner going on - and we never do PvP!

    Oh and we're virtually 100% PS4.

@Drakann I had the same opinion, but actually this is sounding like a pretty big expansion in terms of world building.

We have no idea what the Prison of Elders is yet, but originally it was described as a raid in the mined data so don't expect it to be just another strike. This is going to be an interesting challenge, and due to needing only 3 members it should be easier for more players to actually take part. In theory anyway.

Don't get me wrong I'm also disappointed that there isn't another 6 man raid to take part in, but I'm not going to let that one aspect sour an otherwise exceptional game.

I'm expecting to once again be trapped in the vicious upgrade cycle as I try and get all my favourites up to 365/42 light and perhaps one day drop the Gjallarhorn at last.

@dimasok You add them the normal way - it isn't that hard to add friends through PSN though?

We work out the groups based on who wants to raid on which days, and we have a couple of very keen members who enjoy raiding regularly and often take the time out to show new members through the raids.

I may be bias, but the Eurogamer clan is fantastic. Some great guys who have a good knowledge of the game, don't take it too seriously and just want to enjoy what it has to offer.

I can understand why lone players may not understand the hype, or why the Eurogamer site goes on about Destiny all the time but this is the only game that keeps bringing me back and even after so many months I am not even close to being bored at what it has to offer.

@dimasok Joining raids is as easy as joining the Eurogamer clan on the Bungie forums. We raid up to four times a week, and once HoW drops we'll probably having something going almost every night.

Playing with a team you can learn to know is much better than throwing yourselves in with randoms every time?

  • Eurogamer has dropped review scores

  • Sniper_007 10/02/2015

@dogmanstaruk A guide that has just become a little less useful.

As an accountant no-one will ever be able to persuade me that numbers aren't important.

If used correctly they can convey a sense of meaning behind the words, a clarity that is often missing with words alone.

Metacritic may be broken, or rather the system of paying bonuses based on Metacritic is broken, but it is a useful site to find links to other reviews and it doesn't mean all numbers are bad.

I will probably stop reading most reviews here now and stick to the news/features. A sign of the times when a review site won't commit to giving a real opinion anymore.
    Reply -2
  • Sniper_007 10/02/2015

@TarickStonefire I don't agree, I feel without that number it is too easy to get the wrong impression from a review. Words alone aren't sufficient to give clarification of intent behind a reviewer's words.

All I ask is for a reviewer (or as some have said, preferably reviewers!) to give their opinion on how much they enjoyed a game in question. I want to hear about the good, the bad etc. and then for the, to wrap it up with an opinion that helps inform the reader.

The review score adds clarity which allows the reader to understand the tone of the review which can otherwise be read differently depending on your own personal opinions or mood at that moment in time.

I feel removing the score allows a reviewer an escape clause; a way to avoid giving an opinion and just giving us the facts and figures about a game and in doing so lessens the value of the reviews overall.

Just to add - I'm not saying we need a score, but that we shouldn't have that no rating option in the middle where a lot of games will live. Essential, Recommended and Avoid are a clear indication of a reviewer's opinion but the no rating leaves us in limbo with no real opinion at all. That isn't good enough, and that's where I have the problem with the new system.

  • Sniper_007 10/02/2015

@X-Alucard Glad I'm not the only one.

This feels like a cop out to me, like a reviewer doesn't want to give his or her opinion but just give us some facts and let us make our own minds up. But isn't giving us an opinion about the game the reason we have reviews, and often the score is what pulls together the tone of the review.

I completely agree with the move away from Metacritic, but just feel that this new system is missing something.

  • Sniper_007 10/02/2015

@TPoppaPuff It's technically a four point system. Essential, Recommended, No rating and avoid.
While I agree with the move away from Metacritic it does leave the majority of game reviews in a kind of limbo with no real opinion at all. To me this comes across as non committal rather than forward thinking.
Often the score is what pulls together a review, and can inform meaning behind the words when sometimes the words themselves can be unclear and can give a different impression to the reader depending on the opinions or mood of the reader on that day. Is it really so hard to say definitively that you as a reviewer enjoyed or didn't enjoy a game?

  • Rich Stanton on: Cheesing Destiny

  • Sniper_007 19/01/2015

Has this writer even played Destiny?

Crota is ridiculously easy for a decent raid party. In fact the Eurogamer clan tend to bash through Crota in about 40 minutes, especially if we have a 32 on Sword duty and that's without any 'cheese' at all.

In fact we tend to run both the Vault & Crota in the same night within 2 to 2.5 hours, with just a little cheese during the Templar stage to try and compensate for the bugs that still persist.

Maybe you should interview your own clan rather than talking to these group of strangers who clearly don't know how to play a game properly!

  • eSports organisation under fire for male and female-only tournaments

  • Sniper_007 03/07/2014

Their argument doesn't carry any weight as there are a few sports out there like for example snooker that allow women to play on the main tour, while also allowing a women's league to help promote the game where women are under represented. Motor racing is another sport where women are allowed to compete!

Blocking entry due to sex is stupid, but if a separate women only tournament in certain games existed to help grow the female fan base of that title then I'd be behind that. In games like Street Fighter which has been male dominated, especially in tournaments, for the last few years I'd expect that promoted female tournaments could help redress that balance in a couple of years time?

  • Sniper_007 09/06/2014

Really positive to see Mario Kart up there, but as @Rildiz said you have to wonder if this is a one off and then sink off the chart. The Wii U still has some promise, even if it is just my love of offscreen play! :)

I still fancy Watch Dogs though. I've been watching a Lets Play on YouTube and the more I see the more I like it. It's like a Grand Theft Auto but where I don't have to play as the bad guy. Ok the world isn't as deep or rich as GTA, but the hacking ideas are cool and I love how the story isn't 'save the world' but is more personal. As an older brother with a sister who has kids I really connect with those elements of the story.

  • Sony explains PS4 digital game pricing

  • Sniper_007 12/12/2013

I was referring to the digital stores rather than the bricks and mortar. Most of the healthy price competition is online, with the traditional stores rarely able to compete on price these days.

If more online retailers were able to sell digital downloads then we may be able to buy our downloads at online prices (or less) and still get instant delivery.
    Reply 0
  • Sniper_007 28/11/2013

The big question is why can't those ultra important retailers also sell digital copies then? Or the codes anyway. Then you get the benefit of instant delivery, with healthy competitive pricing.
Then the users can decide whether the price is right and whether they want digital or a hard copy from any retailer. Everyone wins?

@Crea Exactly my thoughts. I've been a proud Xbox gamer for 10+ years, was part of the original Xbox Live Beta Test and own upwards of 100 boxed titles, which includes at most a dozen bought second hand. And all of that is heading back towards Sony because all I want is a games console - pure and simple.

The new Xbox sounds exactly like what the PS3 was marketed as when it first came out - a console that could do everything, so all it does it sit in the living room and play blu-rays while the 360 has all the fun. In some ways I'm glad as all of this recent news has made what was going to be a very tough decision a whole lot easier, and it means I have a whole new set of exclusive IPs to play again!!

  • Thoughts from New York: PlayStation 4 feels less visionary than its predecessor

  • Sniper_007 22/02/2013

I don't really understand the negativity in this post. I was nothing but excited about the announcement, although admittedly did grow a little concerned that they didn't confirm a blu-ray drive but thankfully that was confirmed after the show.

To put it in perspective, I am a huge Xbox 360 fan. In fact I must be up there as one of their most dedicated fans since I've been through 4 different consoles (red rings, then the extended warranty after buying my 4th which means I now have 3 working consoles!) and even through all of that I have been slightly envious throughout of the Playstation brand.

Sony are willing to take risks on games where Microsoft won't, and the fact that they allowed a game like the Witness to share centre stage in their launch announcement demonstrates that they understand that games are not just about the next Halo, Call of Duty or Killzone!

Microsoft's gamerscore idea, virtually instant patches, very slick Xbox Live experience (cross game chat, easy friend messaging in game etc.) was enough to keep me loyal last time out against the sloooooow updates, slooooow installs (MGS4 was the last PS3 game I bought!), slooooow loading of the PS3 (notice a theme here?). But this time with the PS4 they tick every box, and even appear to have the power to last and the focus on games that I really want.

I'll never be a PC gamer, only a console gamer and I don't really want a box under my tv trying to constantly sell me movies, music, tv. I want a games console, and there was something about the announcement show that convinces me that Sony know some of us want that too.

HMV were one of the few reasons left for me to go 'into town' for a shop. What else is left to break up the torture of clothes shopping with the Mrs, or worse baby clothes shopping! It really is such a sad time when an icon such as HMV can be forced to close their doors.... but what else is left?

It makes you wonder whether the movies studios and game publishers really understand the value of High Street retailers. I honestly think there is still a valid reason for them to exist, but the way they are financed needs to change so they can compete with the likes of Amazon!

@lockload To be honest after this year's E3 I'm struggling to remain excited about the current generation consoles. It's just more of the same on the Xbox - Forza, Halo, Gears & COD. And the PS3 has some exciting new IPs but unless I buy a new blu-ray player for the living room it will just remain a non-games console in our house! (Plus the online system and looooong firmware updates/installs put me off playing on the PS3 a long time ago). Thankfully I still have ME3, Gears 3, Battlefield 3, Dirt 3 & Forza 4 to play through that are sitting on my shelf so I think I can cope for another few months!

@weebl I know what you mean. My pre-order is definitely not a reflection of E3 as you're right - their showing was terrible! After the let down that was Microsoft's and Sony's conferences, Nintendo had an open net to 'win' E3 and they came out with.... Nintendo Land. However, the hope [wish?] of another F-Zero, Star Fox, Metroid, Zelda, Mario (3D & Kart) is still enough to keep me waiting.

To be honest what I really wanted them to announce was another 3DS, with twin sticks, a better battery life and the ability to download SNES titles from the 3DS store. That I could easily convince myself to buy!

I've done the same - how can anyone resist it at 199.99. Even if there's only a handful of quality titles it'll help get me through this next year until the big boys are announced, and then maybe another few months of saving after that.

At least we can all agree on one thing, from the few comments above - Nintendo can still attract the passionate gamer to want them to do well.

I'm also really disappointed by this conference.... how can they promise so much and then give us nothing to really get excited over. It feels like the 3DS launch all over again, they're saving their big titles for a larger user base instead of blowing us away with a new Zelda/Metroid/Mario launch title. Plus, and I know I'm not the only one, I just want a new Starfox & F-Zero and I'd have already pre-ordered!!

I'll never underestimate Nintendo, but to say that they are looking to attract the core back to them and then produce an underpowered machine with no exclusive 'core' games makes me wonder if they really do know what they're doing at the minute!

I might have missed it, but did they give any concrete details of how the GamePad works as a replacement screen when you don't have access to the tv? Some of these games clearly need 2 screens, so is it up to the developers to activate it, will it work on backwards compatible games, is it built in to the hardware or just something they know works? Plus how far away from the main console can you go?
