After a couple of months of using Windows 8, I am ready to call Gabe Newell a disaster. Not sure what that means though. But I'm okay with Windows 8, and if I was going to get a tablet, I would certainly be getting the one with full Windows 8 as opposed to an Android or i-device. Reply0
I wonder, if she is a transgendered person looking for money for a sex change operation, how would she have fared if she'd started an Indiegogo project to fund a sex change operation. Reply+2
So will we finally reach the point where we can say we have enough polygons, light sources, etc, so we can concentrate on making the games not shit? Reply+16
It's the end of the financial quarter, I have to agree with people who say this has very little to do with SimCity, Dead Space 3 or any other single game. His overall performance, as far as moneymaking is concerned, was lacking, and that is all shareholders care about. Now they'll be wanting somebody who's better at making money than Riccitiello was. Which might not necessarily be a good thing for gamers. Reply+14
I said it at the time, but I'll say it again: Valve probably weren't serious about entering the hardware business, but rather were using the threat of doing that to put the pressure on Microsoft to remove the embedded app store from Windows. They needed to make it convincing, so they needed somebody with real hardware to show off. Reply-1
To make a music analogy, it's a bit like saying that since there have been loads of heavy metal bands since Black Sabbath, it's alright for me to record my own version of 'Paranoid' and claim that it was composed by me. Reply+3
So did we get a price already? Because with that addition of 8GB of GDDR5, I'm getting the feeling this won't be any cheaper than the PS3 was at launch. Not a problem for many of us, but depending on what Microsoft comes up with, could be a problem for Sony. Reply+7
I've said this before, but this is all very silly. We already have the technology to prevent used game sales this gen. It is up to the publisher whether they want to implement it. It would be a bit odd for Sony, Nintendo or MS to actually force a publisher to prevent their game from being resold. Reply-1
@Typhoid Well, in a way, yes. As far as I can see, it's a stupid waste of resources that leads to situations like this at worst, and immense waste of money and time at best. But as I said, I'm not in the biz, so some insiders might actually find positive aspects in the practice. Reply0
I'm not an industry pro, and I'm certainly not trying to defend Pitchford or Gearbox, but isn't this just a blatant example of the infamous "vertical slice" approach to game development? Reply+1
Sinistar is included in that Midway collection that was released late last year. I must admit I never came across the arcade cabinet in the olden days, but maybe that's for the best, it would have swallowed coins like nobody's business. But it does have a certain charm. Reply+1
I don't know. I mean yes, it's not very good, but then again, neither are many AAA games, and this is cheaper and there's probably many more hours of entertainment here than in many "proper" console games. So is it necessarily too expensive just because you can get most (all?) content cheaper on other platforms? Reply+2
@Steve2911 As with Duke Nukem Forever, regardless of who did how shitty work with what resources, in the end it was Gearbox that decided the game was ready to ship. Reply+25
Well, I would have paid full price for ZombiU, and if they make a sequel, I'll be there. But I think what Bleszinski is going for here is the assumption that for true horror, the game will have to be guided to the extent of being an interactive movie, and it's not really feasible to make such a game very long, with very little to no replay value, which then brings us to the perceived value for money. Reply+1
@nickbonkersperry That's a matter of taste I suppose, but regardless of the quality, the project definitely was the biggest train wreck in the history of the games industry. Reply+2
Between Duke Nukem and this, I can't help but wonder if Pitchford is intentionally spending the good name his company got from Borderlands to help sell trainwrecks developed by others. Reply+46
