  • Nintendo's painful metamorphosis leaves fans reeling

  • SlackMaster 17/06/2015

TBH I thought it was quite a good E3 Nintendo Direct. They had two Zelda games on the DS, a Fire Emblem, and Yokai Watch then on the Wii U they had Xenoblabe X, Mario Maker, Yoshi's Woolly World, Mario Tennis and Star Fox. What's not to like?

Every game above is something I'd like to get. Gamers can be a miserable bunch sometimes. :s

  • SlackMaster 11/06/2015

It's only due to competition in retail that we see games drop in price after a few months and old games available for a £10 or less on some platforms (usually to shift old stock).

In a digital future this would not happen and we'd be paying out the arse for old games months or years after launch. I do not look forward to that day and neither does my wallet. :(

  • XCOM 2 announced for PC this November

  • SlackMaster 02/06/2015

I'll have to dust off my laptop then to play this. I was hoping for a remake of Terror from the Deep, but this seems a bit more like XCOM Apocalypse.

Not sure if the setting will be restrictive and remove elements of the game like funding and all that. If this is a human rebellion against an alien takeover resources and tech development might be limited. Would they even have craft to shoot down UFO's?

  • Xbox sales decreased 20 per cent year-over-year in Q1

  • SlackMaster 24/04/2015

Last gen, and the generation before that I brought all 3 consoles... This time I got a PS4 and WiiU.

Everything leading up to the launch of the Xbox One just left such a bad taste in my mouth that I decided against getting the XBox this generation.

I do enjoy the Halo games, but I can live without them and just having the two consoles saves me a little more money and time.

I'm not sure what it would take now for me to pick up an XBox console in the future.

Does anyone know if 'From Software' have mentioned anyway of importing your PS3/360 save to the PS4/360 game?

I wouldn't have though it'd be too difficult if you have access to cloud saving through PSN or Gold membership.

I've not played any of the expansions as I was waiting for a 'Complete' edition to be released on disc and really want to play this on PS4, but just not keen on having to play it all the way through again.

I had to do a lot of grinding and I don't have the time to do that all again, so a save import would make this game a must purchase.

  • Face-Off: Dragon Age: Inquisition

  • SlackMaster 23/11/2014

@Alex_Star I've been playing this on the PS3 for around 2 to 3 hours and it has crashed on me twice now. Completely locking up the system and forcing me to shut it down.

I've lost progress as although Bioware games can have bugs, I've never had as many problems with a game as this one. It's glitchy as well with characters flickering in and out of cut scenes, textures just not loading onto characters or being unable to talk to NPC's unless you restart the game. I love Bioware RPG's but to be honest it's a bit shocking final product on the PS3.

I really want to play it, but with so many problems I'm tempted to leave it until I buy a PS4 as I don't want a buggy game ruining my experience, as they're not the sort of games you play through twice.

@I-Am-The-Law I'd recommend both games, although the second isn't quite as good as the first.

Whatever format you get the games on get the complete edition of the original game as it has the rather large Awakening expansion included.

I'd also recommend playing as a Mage as they are the most interesting and diverse class to play as.

  • SlackMaster 21/10/2014

Charging someone for a physical disk then expecting them to download the majority of the content from the internet in order to play the game is not excusable, it just isn't.

If the game was an XBLA title only I'd understand but not a boxed game and it's not like it's even a patch, it's 20 f*cking GB. I don't know what planet MS and 343 live on but I'd not buy the game knowing this.

  • The New 3DS XL unlocks the potential of Nintendo's handheld

  • SlackMaster 19/09/2014

"...consider the fact that it also contains the buttons and functionality of the ugly, bloated 3DS Circle Pad Pro add-on."

I'm a bit confused by this. Clearly the 3DS LL doesn't have any additional buttons or another circle pad, so what does this mean?

I'm not quite sure what Nintendo is trying to achieve with this model either... it looks so similar to the 3DS XL but can run some games that'll only play on it.

So they're splitting their market and confusing the consumer. I don't know why they didn't redesign the shell all together and call it something different.

I think the white one looks nice, but as with the 2DS, I'm not sure how well this console will fare.

  • SlackMaster 28/08/2014

I'm surprised that Eurogamer is reporting on Anita Sarkeesian, when if they had done any research into the subject they'd find that her motives for making these videos aren't all that pure.

Those that have tried to argue a point of have called her out on things just get labelled as chauvinists. Even some of the attacks on her that she's highlighted in the past were either provoked or taken out of context to make her seem like a victim and further fuel her cause.

I have no problem in calling out a developer when their games portrayal of women isn't all that progress but I'd not publicise Anita's videos in the process.

  • Streets of Rage was much more than a Final Fight clone

  • SlackMaster 30/06/2014

SoR 1 and 2 were my favourite games on the Megadrive and easily the best belt scrollers ever made. Final Fight, although fun felt very limited IMO and quickly got repetitive, which I felt the SoR games never did.

These games still hold up very today and I still go back to play them from time to time. I never did like SoR3 though, although I can't quite but my fingure on why.

I've heard that the Japanese version Bare Knuckle 3 was superior to the PAL and US versions due to the story making sense, having no censorship and the difficulty being more forgiving.

  • SlackMaster 11/06/2014

@Machiavellian I'm rounding up but most PS4/XBox One games are £49.99 to £54.99.

If MS had gone ahead with using digital certification for physical games i.e. the disk being the delivery method only, then the ability to collect, trade or lend that game would be gone.

I hear the argument about steam, but then most people including me buy games off steam for rediculously low prices and I know what I'm getting into.

As a gamer I like to collect games to preserve them for myself and others in the future. MS basically would have eradicated the ability for me to do this and that's why I keep 'dregging' (I assume you mean dredging) it up, because it's important to me.

Glad they u-turned on it all in the end but nothing stopping them trying this all again if they take the lead over their competition in the future.I'd like to forgive them now but it might take a long time and a lot of goodwill on their part. • SlackMaster 07/05/2014

I own a wii u and haven't really found much of a reason to switch it on. The virtual console and eshop is a even worse that the Wii's with very little content. Their pricing for that content is too high especially for the VC games and there is no unified account that links content you have brought on other platforms which puts me off buying anything.

I've brough Super Mario Bros 2,3, Megaman 1,2,3,4,5,6 and Castlevania 1,2, and 3 to name a few games on both Wii and 3DS... I don't want to pay for them again.

  • SlackMaster 11/03/2014

@menage I played a little Demon Souls, then picked up a played Dark Souls then got to a boss that I couldn't defeat and stopped playing.

I went back to the game a few months ago and when I get stuck I take a look at the wiki for advise.

I don't feel too much like it is cheating as in many cases I'm just looking for pointers on where to go next or help with tricky bosses.

Not too far from the end now I think, playing a lvl 72 Sorcerer and the games become a lot easier although I do still die from time to time.

I'm currently working my way throught he expansion and the Abys Walker boss is kicking my arse. He's just so fast and agressive. I leveled up my int really high so my vitality and endurance have suffered a bit so just two hits from this guy and I'm toast.

  • SlackMaster 18/02/2014

What's the benefit of download over disc based anyway? There is less competition so prices stay high, a load of retail staff loose their jobs, there is less choice as to where I can get games, there is difficulty preserving what I have bought especially when a new generation comes along and I spend £40 for nothing I can own or hold onto. Sorry but what are the benefits of that? If you spend a couple of quid on a game fair enough but this model doesn't stand up for full price retail games. • SlackMaster 17/01/2014

Nintendo needed to drop price rather than just bundling games with the system. I brought one before xmas when the first bundles came out, and ended up getting the Lego City Bundle as it came with a physical copy of the game rather than a download.

The Mario bundle wasn't out at that time and I wanted a physical copy of Wind Waker which put me off that bundle.

I have a few games, but I haven't brought titles such as New Super Marios Bros U yet because of the stupid Nintendo tax (1yr old game still sold at full RRP in most places).

They need to stop relying on Mario and Zelda games to sell their consoles and try reviving some of their old franchises (I'd love to see a 2D Metroid game).

The Nintendo eShop is also a joke, with the Virtual Console service having so few games (It's great to have Earthbound but that doesn't make up for so few games). The price for these is high especially if you are having to re-buy them again as they are not cross platform or linked to your Nintendo ID.

A lot of negativity on here about Ouya, considering most of the comments are from people that don't own one or haven't played with one.

It's a great little console, and has lots of useful apps like XBMC, VLC and MD.emu. The latest update allows the use of external HDD's as well. I picked one up to play retro games on as most of my stuff is in storage at the moment.

You can get Megadrive/SegaCD, SNES, NES, and PC Engine emulators for free from the Ouya store and they all run very well.

  • SlackMaster 11/10/2013

I've been sitting on the fence as I want one, but I just don't want to pay £250 for one as I just don't think it's worth that.

The Zelda bundle had me interested but I've been told the game doesn't come on disk but as digital, either already on the storage or downloadable. With only 32Gb of space I don't want that plus I'm a collector so want a disk and case.

The price I'm willing to pay for a premium console with a game is £199 and no more. With the next generation of consoles coming and this generation so much cheaper than the Wii-U it's hard to justify the £250 price tag.

You can get mod kit's or modded GameGears on ebay. They replace all the transistors that blow and the back light with led bulbs so the battery life is greatly improved. Rather than get about 2 hours you get more like 6-8 hours with an LED backlight.

Picked this up on ps3 and I've had no major graphical problems other than a very occasional screen tear.

I'm not really enjoying it much at the moment though. I loved the first two, but my gaming tastes may have moved on as I'm finding the game a real slog at them moment.

I picked a wizard class and it just seems like it takes forever to kill things and gets repetitive very quickly. Unlike previous games it seems like the loot system has been more simplified and the drops are not as frequent or interesting. Also stuff the merchants sell are very expensive starting out.

I'm just in Leoric's tomb and wondering whether to continue or not.
