  • Microsoft offers select Xbox 360 users $75 rebates for buying Xbox Ones

  • SlackMaster 09/07/2014

After the arrogance of the DRM, 24hr checks, always on, kinect, the lack of focus on games initially, the pay wall they had for free apps like Netflix and the stupid comments when announced I wouldn't pick up an Xbox one even if it was 150.

Although I have enjoyed halo games they haven't done enough to keep the franchise interesting for me and other exclusives like gears should have changed things up long ago. I can live with Xbox exclusives for now.

  • Streets of Rage was much more than a Final Fight clone

  • SlackMaster 30/06/2014

SoR 1 and 2 were my favourite games on the Megadrive and easily the best belt scrollers ever made. Final Fight, although fun felt very limited IMO and quickly got repetitive, which I felt the SoR games never did.

These games still hold up very today and I still go back to play them from time to time. I never did like SoR3 though, although I can't quite but my fingure on why.

I've heard that the Japanese version Bare Knuckle 3 was superior to the PAL and US versions due to the story making sense, having no censorship and the difficulty being more forgiving.

@Machiavellian I'm rounding up but most PS4/XBox One games are 49.99 to 54.99.

If MS had gone ahead with using digital certification for physical games i.e. the disk being the delivery method only, then the ability to collect, trade or lend that game would be gone.

I hear the argument about steam, but then most people including me buy games off steam for rediculously low prices and I know what I'm getting into.

As a gamer I like to collect games to preserve them for myself and others in the future. MS basically would have eradicated the ability for me to do this and that's why I keep 'dregging' (I assume you mean dredging) it up, because it's important to me.

Don't take your customers for granted by thinking you can get away with 50 digital only titles, 24hr certificate checks for games you've purchased and bundling in shit they don't want. Glad they u-turned on it all in the end but nothing stopping them trying this all again if they take the lead over their competition in the future.

I'd like to forgive them now but it might take a long time and a lot of goodwill on their part.

I was hoping that it'd be released on the PS4 as it was the one XBox One title that I was interested in.

I can live without Gears, and although I like Halo it's not something I'd buy an XB1 for, so any content that finds its way to the PC or PS4 is good news for me.

  • Nintendo slumps to another annual loss after dismal Wii U sales

  • SlackMaster 07/05/2014

I own a wii u and haven't really found much of a reason to switch it on. The virtual console and eshop is a even worse that the Wii's with very little content. Their pricing for that content is too high especially for the VC games and there is no unified account that links content you have brought on other platforms which puts me off buying anything.

I've brough Super Mario Bros 2,3, Megaman 1,2,3,4,5,6 and Castlevania 1,2, and 3 to name a few games on both Wii and 3DS... I don't want to pay for them again.

  • Dark Souls 2 review

  • SlackMaster 11/03/2014

@menage I played a little Demon Souls, then picked up a played Dark Souls then got to a boss that I couldn't defeat and stopped playing.

I went back to the game a few months ago and when I get stuck I take a look at the wiki for advise.

I don't feel too much like it is cheating as in many cases I'm just looking for pointers on where to go next or help with tricky bosses.

Not too far from the end now I think, playing a lvl 72 Sorcerer and the games become a lot easier although I do still die from time to time.

I'm currently working my way throught he expansion and the Abys Walker boss is kicking my arse. He's just so fast and agressive. I leveled up my int really high so my vitality and endurance have suffered a bit so just two hits from this guy and I'm toast.

  • Bleszinski: "I'll never make another disc-based game"

  • SlackMaster 18/02/2014

What's the benefit of download over disc based anyway? There is less competition so prices stay high, a load of retail staff loose their jobs, there is less choice as to where I can get games, there is difficulty preserving what I have bought especially when a new generation comes along and I spend 40 for nothing I can own or hold onto. Sorry but what are the benefits of that?

If you spend a couple of quid on a game fair enough but this model doesn't stand up for full price retail games. It's a shit deal for you and I and I'd never support or welcome such a change.

  • Nintendo slashes Wii U sales forecast from 9m to 2.8m

  • SlackMaster 17/01/2014

Nintendo needed to drop price rather than just bundling games with the system. I brought one before xmas when the first bundles came out, and ended up getting the Lego City Bundle as it came with a physical copy of the game rather than a download.

The Mario bundle wasn't out at that time and I wanted a physical copy of Wind Waker which put me off that bundle.

I have a few games, but I haven't brought titles such as New Super Marios Bros U yet because of the stupid Nintendo tax (1yr old game still sold at full RRP in most places).

They need to stop relying on Mario and Zelda games to sell their consoles and try reviving some of their old franchises (I'd love to see a 2D Metroid game).

The Nintendo eShop is also a joke, with the Virtual Console service having so few games (It's great to have Earthbound but that doesn't make up for so few games). The price for these is high especially if you are having to re-buy them again as they are not cross platform or linked to your Nintendo ID.

A lot of negativity on here about Ouya, considering most of the comments are from people that don't own one or haven't played with one.

It's a great little console, and has lots of useful apps like XBMC, VLC and MD.emu. The latest update allows the use of external HDD's as well. I picked one up to play retro games on as most of my stuff is in storage at the moment.

You can get Megadrive/SegaCD, SNES, NES, and PC Engine emulators for free from the Ouya store and they all run very well.

  • Nintendo announces three new Wii U hardware bundles

  • SlackMaster 11/10/2013

I've been sitting on the fence as I want one, but I just don't want to pay 250 for one as I just don't think it's worth that.

The Zelda bundle had me interested but I've been told the game doesn't come on disk but as digital, either already on the storage or downloadable. With only 32Gb of space I don't want that plus I'm a collector so want a disk and case.

The price I'm willing to pay for a premium console with a game is 199 and no more. With the next generation of consoles coming and this generation so much cheaper than the Wii-U it's hard to justify the 250 price tag.

I have one but the charge station/dock doesn't output a signal to my TV and it is so badly designed I'm worried that inserting it into the dock to charge the system on a regualr basis may eventually break the connections on the handheld console as it is such a tight fit and feel a bit delicate.

I started to collect for the system recently and was surprised at how cheap many of the games are.

You can get mod kit's or modded GameGears on ebay. They replace all the transistors that blow and the back light with led bulbs so the battery life is greatly improved. Rather than get about 2 hours you get more like 6-8 hours with an LED backlight.

Picked this up on ps3 and I've had no major graphical problems other than a very occasional screen tear.

I'm not really enjoying it much at the moment though. I loved the first two, but my gaming tastes may have moved on as I'm finding the game a real slog at them moment.

I picked a wizard class and it just seems like it takes forever to kill things and gets repetitive very quickly. Unlike previous games it seems like the loot system has been more simplified and the drops are not as frequent or interesting. Also stuff the merchants sell are very expensive starting out.

I'm just in Leoric's tomb and wondering whether to continue or not.

  • Wii U Basic stock to become "limited" in UK

  • SlackMaster 30/08/2013

I want a Wii-U as I'd really like to play Wind Waker again as it is on of my favourite Zelda games, not to mention Earthbound, Bayonetta and Wonderful 101 but it's just the price that puts me off. When current gen consoles are comparable to it but much cheaper and the PS4 is just months away an not that much more expensive I can't justify buying one.

The price I'd jump in at would be 149.99 for the Basic and 199.99 for the Premium (with bundled game).

Also the storage capacity is really shit. Initially I though I'd get a Basic then just just put a 16GB SD card in to make up some of the difference as I'd only be downloading VC games and saving, until I found out you cannot use the SD slot for storage only for Wii data tranfer and while in Wii mode.

I really don't want an external HDD handing off the back of the console... what were Nintendo thinking.

  • Whisper it, but Xbox One is finding its stride

  • SlackMaster 22/08/2013

@Repsode I think Microsofts change of heart isn't just the pre-orders of the XBOne though, but also people not renewing their XBLG subs.

I cancelled my renewal some time back after a whole host of decisions from Kinect to Metro etc.

The whole fiasco with XBone has totally turned me off MS now and although I won't be buy a next gen console at launch, I will be getting PS4 at some point. I exclusively buy all my games on PS3 now also and have signed up with PS+ as it's great value all round but especually if you have a vita as well.

  • Xbox One will function without Kinect plugged in

  • SlackMaster 13/08/2013

@lew15ewad I wish that was true but as soon as Microsoft pulled the draconian drm policies out of their console their pre-orders shot up.

Personally I wanted them to go ahead with their original plan for the xbox one so that consumers could spank them at retail and no one would try such anti-consumer practices again.

I've all three consoles this generation and although I favoured the 360 at the start of the generation MS have completely turned me off it towards the end. I now buy all my games on the PS3 and portables and have packed my 360 away and cancelled my gold subs that I'd paid for 5 years.

I haven't pre-ordered a next gen console yet, but I am most definately not getting an xbox one as I just don't trust Microsoft to do something similar in the future when they can get away with it.

  • After Xbox One U-turn pre-owned is back on the table - but at what cost?

  • SlackMaster 20/06/2013

You cannot have game and marketing budgets this high while also having used and rental games existing. The numbers do NOT work people
That is a problem with the industry not selling your games on. Budgets are spiralling out of control and rather that working on a sensible solution they blame pre-owned and piracy rather than confronting the issue like proper businesses.

If I buy a car and then sell it on, do Toyota or Hyundai or whoever expect a cut? No, because I've already paid them and it is now mine to do with as I please. Developers need to look at their own business and how they do things and make changes accordingly, and not expect gamers to have to bail them out because they can't manage their businesses effectively.

MS always have those clauses in their terms of use where they can change things at any point. I'm not saying they will go back on what they have stated here this generation but it's clear what they want now and I can't support that as I don't want to see console gaming going down that route.

I was also quite shocked at how they basically have taken the 'fuck you, live with it attitude since this announcement, like the you don't have internet then buy a 360 comment.

MS have shown their true colours, but have been making many changes that it's community don't like, like the Metro dash update etc.

  • SlackMaster 17/06/2013

I think if they make a game more in the spirt of Melee it'll be great. I felt like Brawl lost something. I really enjoyed the mini-game bonus stages in Melee which weren't in Brawl and really disliked the Subspace Emissary mode. I didn't like the fact that many of the unlocks were in this mode, that it was overly long and forced you to play as characters that you didn't particulary like to play. In short it wasn't fun.

I haven't unlocked Sonic or Snake in Brawl as I didn't like playing Subspace Emissary and the only other alternative to unlocking them was to put crazy hours into the game before you could fight against them to unlock them.
