Sorry, I'm just bitter. I remember back in Shogun and Medieval 1 (and then maybe also Rome) battles that really felt like they meant something - setting up ambushes, brave last stands, etc. That just seems to have faded away more and more with each iteration. And that's not even mentioning the strategy map AI, although that was always a bit flaky.
Deserves some kind of special award for managing to rip off Shadow of the Colossus and Gears of War in the same game. Who'd have thought it was possible? Reply0
Yeah, trying to obscure the keyboard from the view of the other players while answering the "ILLUSION Y/N?" prompt. Great days...

"at USD 30 it's quite expensive for an indie game"
...it's also "quite awesome" for an indie game, which more than compensates! It's very close to Zelda/Metroid/Castlevania quality, although having that uncommercialised charm probably biases it a bit for me.
I'm about 20 hours in, and probably very near the end (although i am a bit stuck).

I really enjoyed reading that - nice one. Setting your own goals sounds great.
Definitely going to pick up the demo, I tried EU2 but was pretty baffled - the lack of printed manual in my cheap budget copy didn't help either. Reply0
The AI thing is that it is (or maybe was) bloody impossible to write a Go-playing AI, probably due to the vast number of board configurations compared to chess.
Someone's probably made a decent stab at it by now, but there'll never be the Go equivalent of Deep Blue, AFAIK Reply0
What is it that makes people think they can plug a mouse into a 360 and suddenly a game's user interface code will suddenly reprogram itself to use that instead of a pad? Reply0
Not sure why a port to the DS implies a dumbed-down twitch-fest. Settlers appears to be exactly the same as the PC version, for example.
This guy in charge of the handheld stuff has come from a pen-and-paper RPG studio, so it should be fairly hardcore.
As for "one type of click", that's no obstacle at all. Tap for a default action, press and hold to bring up a radial menu around the stylus (as in Temple of Elemental Evil, NWN and PST). Job done. Reply0
Sweet, sweet Dwarf Fortress. I still haven't got to winter without quitting in despair at my inefficient fortress.
