@Murton It's scary the lengths some fanboys will go to, to defend their console. I've checked through some of the Major Melson blog posts and the number of XBoners defending the MS DRM policies, 1hr/24hr online, always on Kinect is quite scary.

As a current XBox360 gamer I'll be sticking with what I've got for the forseeable future, but potentially moving to the PS4 once their policies are finalise and so long as they don't match MS.

@dogmanstaruk Bang on the money with your comments regarding the reveal. I already have a TiVo box, I don't care for sports in general and certainly not American sports tied to fantasy leagues and don't give a crap about Kinect. Add to that the single activation fiasco and I have no interest.

Also the omission of the tech specs (5 million transistors - WTF!?!) was telling - I think Sony will sleep easy tonight.

Really disappointed as a current XBox360 owner...

@Murton Your latter point is certainly where I see myself. Why shell out £35 - 40 for a pre-order/day 1 purchase when most games drop to sub £25 in a matter of months. Not only do you benefit from a lower price, but with the state of most games at launch nowadays you also benefit from at least one or two patches.

Also with the current trend of a lot of games having season passes for multiple DLCs I'm happy to wait for the 'full' game release later down the line, which tends to cost less than the original release.

@dogmanstaruk Re. your post about not being interested in a kinect enabled media box then this is worth a read (taken from the Neogaf link that has been mentioned):

"Xbox isnít just for hardcore gamers anymore. Itís the center of a whole entertainment ecosystem that goes way beyond the living room. Music, movies, social and games converge and become accessible across any device, anywhere, and thatís just the beginning. We are revolutionizing entertainment right now."

@scuffpuppies Totally agree! Not only are there times when I don't won't to be online for purely personal reasons, there are also times when I don't want to connect due to issues with the games themselves.

Take Borderlands 2 as a recent example, after my girlfriend lost a character due to a loss of Live connectivity, the initial save game exploit and the 'rare' (yeah right!) badass rank reset problems we played for well over a month offline until a number of major patches arrived.

Other examples like updates to Fez that made it unplayable for some or certain Assassins Creed updates that broke certain in game achievements were all avoided by going offline - how will that be possible with always on?

As a current XBox 360 owner if MS do go down the always on, ad driven, lack of first party, Kinect-box I'll be buying a PS4. I'll always have my 360 to play my back catalogue on...

@dogmanstaruk Too be honest as others have stated in this and the PS4 thread, I'm not overly excited by the next-gen as I have been for previous console releases.

However I have to say that at this moment in time I'm being swayed away from the XBox towards the PS4. I know its all just noise at the moment, but I prefer the direction Sony 'seem' to be taking rather than MS. Which is a real shame as I've had a blast on my 360, but with the PSN+ deals, first party exclusives, backwards compatibility etc. etc. the PS4 is sounding more tempting because I definitely couldn't give a flying f**k about Kinect. :(

@kinky_mong It took approx. 1hr 30mins from the purchase receipt email until the download code came through, although reading the reviews on the GAME site suggest others have received them a lot quicker.

They've also got the Halo 4 branded 13mth XBox live membership downloadable code for £27.99, which equates to £2.15 a month.

  • RichyRichh77 13/12/2012

@RedRain Absolutely, include AAA games themselves in that.

Take Borderlands 2 for example, the game is now £25 or less with 2 major patches under its belt and the BAR/freezing patch waiting to pass through Microsoft certification, the collectors edition items are now on sale (400MSP for skins, 400MSP for Creature Slaughter dome) and the season pass is about to be discounted! That's more content than I got with the standard pre-order for almost the same price. :S

One thing I do think is out of order is discounting season passes whilst content is still to arrive. Just feels like a slap in the face for those willing to support the developers by paying upfront at launch, only to have content they haven't even received yet discounted even further for everyone else.

  • RichyRichh77 13/12/2012

@Nisa GAME are doing 4200MSP for £32.99 (equates to £6.28 for 800MSP or £9.43 for 1200MSP games) with the code being emailed to you rather than waiting on a paper copy. :)

Glad I held off on the Walking Dead and Borderlands 2 season pass, will definitely be picking those up.

  • New Borderlands 2 patch protects against Xbox 360 save-corrupting "virus"

  • RichyRichh77 07/11/2012

After reading through a number of the Badass reset threads on the Gearbox XBox360 technical support forum (there are a lot of them and new players are being affected on a daily basis) I posted the following to see if a Gearbox rep could confirm or deny the theory - not heard anything yet:

'I'm wondering if it's worth launching the game with a profile other than your main Gamertag to simply kick off the latest title update to potentially avoid the Badass rank (BAR) reset?

The assumption that has been made by some (I've no idea if there has been any official Gearbox response on what might be causing it) is that the process of downloading the update where you're logged in, but then get disconnected from LIVE as the update is found, is causing the BAR loss. If you use another profile I'm assuming that you'd get the patch, but avoid affecting your main profile?

All just conjecture and I've no idea if part of the patch requires amending details in your actual profile in order to help or remove the freezing issue - anybody from Gearbox able to confirm this?'

Unfortunately it seems to be a side effect of logging all the BAR, customisation and secret stash (yep if you're hit with a reset all your stash items are lost as well) against a users gamer profile (XBox360) rather than in a separate save file that could be backed up.

A patch has supposedly been released for the PC surrounding the BAR process, which is being monitored before being released for the PS3 and XBox360. As challenge progress remains the hope is that points can be reassigned, but there is no mention of whether skins or secret stash items can be restored.

  • Borderlands 2 Xbox 360 "virus" spreading, deleting player saves

  • RichyRichh77 29/10/2012

@jabberwoky Absolutely. I think the issue that a lot of the people affected by it are having is that, other than a message on the Gearbox forums, there has been little to no press coverage of the issue so they haven't been proactively backing up their saves.

What's made it worse for those who've then subsequently lost characters and hundreds of hours of gameplay is that Gearbox and Randy Pitchford have been happily tweeting about golden key giveaways, upcoming DLC, the new iOS game etc., but nothing on this issue - guess it's not surprising when it could impact on sales, but still disappointing that they couldn't have warned more players to simply backup their saves.

    http://forums.gearboxsoftware.com/showthread.php?t=181641

'Recently a few users have begun violating the Xbox Live Code of Conduct by using an external application to maliciously disrupt the experience and sabotage characters of legitimate Borderlands 2 players on Xbox 360. Fortunately itís easy to avoid this scenario.

While we work to resolve this as quickly as possible with our partners, concerned Xbox 360 players of Borderlands 2 should consider playing online with trusted individuals in non-public sessions. This does not affect players on PC or PlayStation 3.'

The number of gamers being hit by the graveyard.sav problem as well as crippling freezes seems to be increasing daily judging by the Gearbox forum technical support posts.

I've bought 2 and traded up, a Premium 20GB that I manually upgraded to 60GB, which was replaced twice under warranty for different RROD errors. This has been OK since, but every time a game freezes I think it'll finally be skipped however it's still soldiering on. :)

@xYOSSARIANx That has been my experience in a nut shell!

The week prior to the update I'd bought a number of arcade titles that were clearly promoted from the Inside XBox tiles. I also tended to flick through the various videos (Arcade Cabinet, Nexus, IGN tips etc.) before jumping into a game.

Now I either launch straight into a game or use the XBox button to see who's online and playing what as the limited 'Friends' view of the 'Social' panel is no use with more than 2 people online.

As for arcade promotions, I'm purely relying on external sources like Eurogamer to let me know when there's a sale on - like the Dead Space 2 DLC being 280MS last week. I'd gone into the EA promotion via Metro, but forgot about the multiple screens within the central panel so never saw it.

With the lead platform being the PS3 does the XBox360 do this game justice? I'm aware that the Digital Foundry vids suggest its pretty much like-for-like but wondered whether others could vouch for that.

Also how well implemented are the online 'invasions' and can they be turned off? Not having played Demon Souls and simply reading about this aspect of the game, it's the one area that gives me pause for thought - battling through a section for several hours only to be ganked by some random doesn't sound like fun to me. • EA: Battlefield 3 "flat out superior" to COD

  • RichyRichh77 05/05/2011

As others have stated the report is slightly out of context when you consider this is to a group of shareholders rather than a full on marketing statement. I simply want the game to speak for itself because if EA hype this through the roof and then the launch is hit by server down time they'll lose a boat load of trust from their customer base and the associated press will savage them.

From a personal point of view I do hate all the; "CoD is utter sh*te, Battlefield rules hands down!" trash talk that is rife throughout the comment sections of any CoD/Battlefield news articles - each to their own. All I can say is that I spent days playing CoD4 online, less on MW2 (couldn't wait till I opened hardcore mode to get rid of the arcade style 'Revenge Kill' call outs and what were they thing about with the decals for your name tag - I'm not 12, who cares out a bloddy shark on their profile!?!) and had grabbed Battlefield: Bad Company 2 before CoD: Black Ops came out on the 360.

I have to say I personally would never buy another CoD game again after having sampled BF:BC2 purely for:

Destructible environments - These really change the way you play so that every game even on the same maps can potentially be different depending on how a team alters the surrounding buildings from simply opening up a new door way through a wall, to totally levelling entire buildings.

Proper Classes - The fact that each class has the benefits of class specific equipment not just weapon loadouts is stunning. Being able to change the flow of a game when your side is being hammered so you switch to a Medic to revive team mates or being pwned by vehicles so you pull up a Sniper with C4 + mortars or an Engineer with the ability to repair + RPG/mines adds a much more tactical angle to the gameplay.

Arena sizes - The first time I started a game on Heavy Metal and saw the sheer size of it, with vehicles raining down shells from one hill top to the next, choppers strafing each other overhead and snipers pinging rounds from a variety of vantage points was nothing short of breathtaking! :)

Audio - Just brilliant and adds so much to the feel of the game, from the crack and ping of a distant sniper shot to the ear ringing detonation of a C4 charge going off in a building.

Fingers crossed the console port gets somewhere near the PC but even if its visuals are on par or only slightly better than BF: BC2 I'd still be more than happy if the rest of the gameplay remains intact. :)

This is totally down to personal preference but for me the Gears style control system felt all wrong especially after playing so much Battlefield. For me the A press couldn't decide between run, slide or vault.

Also after 3 or 4 run throughs I felt I'd seen pretty much all there was to see in terms of game play. I was genuinely surprised by how much I disliked it because I was sure it would be a blast from all the previews hence the blind pre-order.

  • Enslaved sales fail to break 500,000

  • RichyRichh77 03/02/2011

It's a shame that it didn't sell enough for a sequel but I too can understand it. I picked this up for £16 (after playing the demo it wasn't a day one purchase I'm afraid) and finished my first playthrough last night. I thought the scripting was very good, some genuinely funny moments mixed up with a number of emotional set pieces. The graphics, motion capture and voice acting are superb but unfortunately the gameplay lacks any real feedback.

Combat (certainly on normal) is lack luster as it's pretty much stun attack, mash X then Y, rinse and repeat, even button mashers like Darksiders had a whole host of weapons/combos that could be used to mix things up a bit. I realise that an enormous weapons cache wouldn't necessarily fit with the story but a few more moves/combos (aerial juggles, slide attacks etc.?) could have added a little extra variety.

The 'platforming' is the one aspect that hit me immediately when I played the demo, it totally broke my flow when I hit the invisible wall at the edge of each drop, there isn't even an Assassin's Creed stumble just your character running left & right against thin air. Then it's a stupidly simple case of looking for the glowing jump points, vaguely point towards them and press A until the jump is made (no chance of missing any by the way). No fatal consequences for a miss timed jump = no connection to the character.

What frustrates me is that I too was after something different to the current mainstream offerings (one reason I bought so many XBLA games last year), which this seems to promise but fails to deliver as a gaming experience. As a well told/acted story then I truly enjoyed it and will again on my hard play through.

If a patch simply fixes a shed load of bugs then I wouldn't expect a re-review but this patch suggests that entire areas of the game have been restructured/redesigned including control system, cameras etc etc. Reply +2

As stated by several others in this thread I would like a re-review, not only in light of the upcoming sale (they'd already dropped the price from 1200 to 800MSP when the patch was released, which had got me interested) but because I think DED deserve it for listening to their customers and acting upon the feedback.

In the meantime, is there anybody out there who picked up the game originally and has played through the Pure version who fancies highlighting in a bit more detail whether it's now worth a punt?

Am I right in thinking that the demo pulls down the Pure update, if so I guess I can rate it myself? :-)

Either way with Amazon doing 2100MSP for £14.99 this equates to £2.86 in the sale - I've lost more cash down the back of the sofa so this will be a definite purchase. :-P

@Intpleeus - I couldn't agree more. I've always wondered why there hasn't been some sort of reward scheme based on your Gamerscore, when I sparked up Assassin's Creed 2 and got into the UPlay setup I was genuinely impressed. In fact I had 40 points left over from AC2 that I used to grab the Hellequin multiplayer skin when I recently purchased AC: Brotherhood, which was nice. :)

Unfortunately for me I find achievement hunting a compulsion I just can't seem to break out of. I like seeing the number of games that I've fully completed on the dashboard and aiming for the next 1000G's but I should really quit now what with DLC wrecking my completed percentage. :) I know people argue that the developers class the 'completed' game as including the DLC but if I haven't bought it (because lets face it a lot is just money grabbing rubbish) then don't put it against my profile. The nerd rage that consumed me after working through the Dawn of War II list to get my 1000G's, only to find that due to the additional expansions (that I haven't bought) I'm now only 50% complete, was epic in scale.

I know, I really need to get out more but only after I've grabbed Demolition 2.0 and the 50 huey kills to fully complete Battlefield: Bad Company 2, oh but then there are still all the pins and insignia to collect. PLEASE SOMEBODY STOP ME.... :P
