Harrison is a divisive figure. His replacement as Worldwide Studios boss at Sony, Shuhei Yoshida, has maintained a lower profile but is almost universally liked - he's seen by journalists, gamers and industry types alike as honest, enthusiastic and open. Harrison, though, still gets a mixed response
Disagree! Phil H had a far keener eye for innovation and his "first or best" mantra helped Sony internally guide itself. He was a great talent spotter within Sony and in terms of 3rd party relationships. He nurtured and built a great roster of games and game makers for Sony.
Sony first party is much weaker for having been under Shuhei's watch; many internal studios have withered, been gutted or closed altogether. Reply+3
Awesome article: I'm in the early game, overwhelmed by choices from which I know I wont have enough praxis and not enough context to work out the best to get. So a spoiler-free aug recommendation article is perfect! Reply+2
Why such nasty catiness in the writing style? It reads as if the writer has a personal grudge against the developer. I believe your quality judgements, but by going well beyond the usual Eurogamer 'sharp tongue & healthy cynicism' the reviews credibility is undermined. Reply+21
I definitely recommend playing it on Hard difficulty as the early levels on 'normal' will feel easy if you're an experienced platform gamer. This video is the standard 'normal' difficulty. Reply+2
I expect one of the reasons for the PS3 choice is that as long as you've touched-base with SCEE you can self-publish, whereas Microsoft have an absolute requirement for an established publisher to be involved and cut in (which can include themselves), otherwise you can only go into the almost-invisible indie games section. Which ever person edited that together at Ubisoft Marketing should be ashamed: that really doesn't show the game well - poor dramatic editing, bad judgement of what to showcase and inappropriate music.
Good thing most of us have the sense to see passed a bad trailer through to what looks like a great game. Reply+1
This sort of controller needs to ship with the console if it's going to get any decent uptake. EyeToy PS2 is a perfect example of where having the device only available separately seriously curtailed consumer uptake and 3rd party support. Natal is apparently going to be a replacement SKU for the 360, so that has a strong chance of getting widespread acceptance, technology issue withstanding.
However I doubt Sony will include their motion controller in the console box - they've not even included a voice headset so far, which is a far more accepted device, and the different SCE territory divisions have a fractious history in supporting each other's initiatives (See previous Eyetoy, Singstar etc). Three cheers for games that let you both skip and pause cutscenes! :)
The Pikmin comparison that gets mentioned a lot is interesting but not quite accurate: the Overlord games are action adventure / light RPGs... you're hitting stuff with the player character, casting spells, looting cash, forging new armour, weapons, upgrades etc.
Pikmin is much more of a strategy / puzzle game that uses a player character to hold it all together. Reply0
Similar situation here - I had LOTRO on my COG account from played it a couple of years ago briefly. Wanting to play again using my EG giveaway key and it accepted the key but didnt activate a subscription. What a waste :( Reply0

ModNation Racers
Surely its actually a testament to the developer's interface design & network code, and little to do with the console or PSN itself?? Reply +12
