    A PC "experience".

I've had experiences before, didn't like 'em one bit.

Honestly if it ends up being a full-on PC game with micro transactions ripped out and... I'll just stop, it'll never happen.

  • I do care for a next-gen medieval RPG with no fantasy

  • Mazzle 22/01/2014

I'm really liking the sound of this, enjoying the minimalistic HUD which in fairness does look like it's from Skyrim but it's fine to take the good from other games if it works.

Couple of things that I am interested in. From the KS page there will be a day & night cycle and various weather patterns. Could we see specific perks/handicaps based on that, such as a perk for moving in the shadows and movement handicaps for trying to run/horse-ride in the rain on bad turf. Maybe I'm going too far on the realism side of things but I think that we're at a stage where weather and time of day shouldn't just look good for the sake of it but add something to the gameplay.

Overall I can't wait to see how this turns out and it can never harm the industry to have another great developer in it.

I love the name Paul Prospero, I can actually see him on one of those "Psychic" channels on Sky.

"You've recently lost someone very close to you, in the last...Fifty years or so, correct?"

"Why yes I have, how in the world did you know?"

[Our hero, smiles to himself and thinks.]
My god Paul, you are brilliant never, NEVER, doubt your gift.

I can understand the potential licensing issues with classics and modern cars but how annoying as anyone that wanted classics in the first place surely has a fantasy matchup in mind.

I wish they hadn't turned the damage off for the classic races in this trailer. It's slightly jarring seeing a 90's car launch itself off the track, hit a wall and it not exploding into smithereens. On that note, do the 80's 90's cars have bespoke damage models or have they just been ported from the modern cars?

The one thing I will say is that the trailer music reminded me heavily of the Zone of Enders 2 trailer - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ctlefthn6H8

That trailer still ranks on my personal top 10, cheesy dialogue and all... Hey these trailers have more in common than I first thought.

  • Gone Home to stay home: The Fullbright Company boycotts PAX due to organisers' stance on "a number of issues"

  • Mazzle 22/06/2013

It's probably worth noting that there is a spectrum of disagreement when it comes to the Dickwolves issue. I had little problem with the initial joke as I considered the Dickwolves as literal wolves made of dicks. Something that was elaborated on by the Gabe in a later drawing. Much like a blogger claiming that comic characters killing each other and coming back is within the world of fantasy though it uses a very real issue of death and murder.

The rape culture issue that surrounds it is a more concerning problem, while in itself it is wrong, it's my belief and a few others that no topic should be off limits, but at the same time if you spend any amount of effort "crafting a rape joke" then it needs to be very respective (a contentious oxymoron to some and even as I type it the phrase still feels wrong) of the victims all over the world.

"LOL YOU GOT RAPED" - Is not an example, nor is it an acceptable form of the evolution of language.

"Don't like it, don't read it!" Some will cry but while that is an effective tactic (Though should not be a necessary one) we need to realise that these jokes are slipped in at a moments notice, the buzz around it propels it to being viral and an off the cuff thoughtless joke becomes a totem for serious issues. If that ends up being your starting point then you'll see the very ugly side of human opinion vs opening a forum on rape culture in general with both sides equally represented.

So don't know what rape culture is nor give a shit?

Well good for you but anyone with a direct or secondary connection to rape will tell you it's a physically and psychologically traumatic time and these "trigger warnings" that some speak of can be very, very real, the offender is not to know but that doesn't allow a free-pass to making an insensitive, poorly worded joke for the sake of a joke.

If at the end of the day your humour boils down to making offensive jokes, it's not the offense that bothers me it's the fact you're a terrible comedian/satirist if you can't elevate it beyond [Offensive topic], [humourous outcome].

Enjoyable interview but I fear I may have heard too much and as is the way I'm coming up with a plot. Just a guess but "The Evil Within" a game set in an asylum and the enemies maaaybe a manifestation of something. Is our lead character crazy? A part of the evil itself? Is he really a cop or is he dun dun duuuun a cop that turns into psychotic serial killer because his urges finally got the better of him.

I'm wrong of course but it's fun to guess. I actually think I'm going to do a info blackout on this game really love Mikami and want to go into this as cold as possible.

  • Right now, Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty isn't coming to Xbox One or Xbox 360

  • Mazzle 13/06/2013

@jroc I couldn't say for sure but I seem to remember reading about the licensing fees and royalty rates being very different (read comparatively higher and less generous) compared to the standard channel.

It can be hard to find info as all devs that join have to sign a NDA with MS which would inevitably include not speaking about the rates. Though as we've seen figures do slip out for instance the cost of patching a game being 40k (Phil Fish of Polytron).

There is also this from the Dev FAQ

"Q: I want to be a certified Xbox 360 publisher. How do I do that?
A: Companies interested in becoming a publisher for the Xbox 360 gaming platform should write an email to newpub@microsoft.com. Interested companies will be required to show a strong commitment to retail products and a solid plan for multiple Xbox 360 titles. Applicants will be asked to share that plan along with information about their companyís history and experience."

A dev can't self publish a single game because MS believe that they wouldn't show that commitment to a long term plan nor have the necessary resources. I guess it's a way for MS to weed out potentially unsuccessful and or unreliable developers as publishers will always require certain targets are met.

You also have the fact that the logistics of a game being released are handled by publishers, production of the disc, marketing etc. If you're a developer you would need a large amount of resources both financial and people to be able to do that.

Some speculation on my part but this would answer why a developer wouldn't simply open a publishing arm just for the sake of getting one game out. There's no other explanation that I can currently think of.

@Jsck_Mc I hope so, I'm trying to be objective when I say this has been a decent day 0, MS showed their games, EA rolled out DICE and Mirrors Edge and Ubi managed to not piss fans off and show another new(ish) concept. If Sony have any true surprises and announce a cheaper (read: at least £100 cheaper console then we definitely have a show on our hands). As negative as I've been this has been a relatively enjoyable E3 so far. Reply 0
