U2 are arseholes, but they do have a really good catalogue of music, right up to the current day. Sad as fuck that they want to do it now cus they see how much the Beatles one has coined in though. Reply +4
  • PSPgo now available for under 200 quid

  • KrissAkabusi 06/10/2009

There's smoke and mirrors going on with this thing. There's no way Sony could bring this to the market at that price and expected it to succeed. There is an alternative aim to having this thing out there, and among the reasons that spring to mind for me are making the existing PSP and the PS3 more attractive purchases. Reply 0

1,532 hours - that's around ten months of work for the average person. TEN MONTHS!!! I feel bad for you man. I really do.

As for the list, not to my taste, but didn't expect it to be anyway. I would say GTA3 is one of the flimsiest gaming experiences I've ever had. The sequels were far more solid experiences.

It's not about what you like. Your stance was that a chunk of the wii market is there cus they don't know better.

".......how far gaming has evolved in the last 30 years. And these consumers (whether shopping for themselves or their 9 year old loved ones) are more easily duped........."

These consumers see the same games on the shelf as the rest of us. They decide not to buy 360 and PS3 because it doesn't interest them. Simple. There is no duping. Is it hard to accept that some people are happy with waggle and novelty? Just because someone enjoys Wii Sports or Wii Fit doesn't mean they are going to enjoy GTA, MGS, Halo, Gears, or even Mario Galaxy.

"b) the marketing attracts a new type of consumer that doesn't really know better."

No no nooooo. It's nothing to do with not knowing better. My nine-year-old sister knows exactly what she likes and it's not phucking FPSes. She would be bored out of her t'ts with a 360. I love the 360, it is my console of choice, but the arrogance of those who think the Wii is targeted to gaming retards is disgusting. The Wii works because it has provided a large chunk of the demographic with what they want in their life - fun, colourful games that you can dive in and out of.

I own all three consoles and find Natal interesting tech, but really don't understand its market yet. I've yet to see anything that would convince casuals to choose it over the Wii, or would get a significant chunk of core have it supplement their current set-up.

  • KrissAkabusi 21/08/2009

I'm certainly not an achievement-hater, I do like seeing my gamerscore go up, just wanted to make the point that a lot of achievements in a lot of games are really inane and certainly not worth the effort just to see a game finished 100 percent. Thinking things like the 1 point for playing 50 hours in FIFA 09 or that 50 point one for killing a billion in Gears of War 2. No way do I have the time to invest in that. Reply 0
  • KrissAkabusi 19/08/2009

Is getting a 100 percent achievements really considered "completing" a game now? Surely the general consensus on completion is getting through the story/single player mode. So many achievements are so inane that you really do have to be a sad barsteward to go for them.

  • Pilotwings for VC this Friday!

  • KrissAkabusi 18/08/2009

Great news. Really looking forward to this. Don't think I've played it since around 1995. And I second calls for Pilotwings 64 to be added, that was an amazing game in its time. I don't think they should do a Wii version of Pilotwings as such, they should hold off and do one for the Wii HD because the graphics were an important part of the 64 bit version. Reply 0
  • Pricing On Demand

  • KrissAkabusi 16/08/2009

It's only reading these comments that I've realised how disturbed I'd be by digital distribution if I was 15 years younger. Back in the SNES days I was lucky to get a game every four or five months and I would've missed out on so much without being able to swap games with friends. It's not an issue for me now, thankfully can buy whatever I want, whenever I want, but there must be huge chunks of the market who can't and really need the value attached to a hard copy to have any hope of staying in the gaming game.

I'd hope the issues with keeping retailers happy is behind Microsoft's clearly high pricing here. I can see the business sense in having the GOD facility there but not yet looking to capitalise on it. However, I've no doubt that if a year down the line GOD doesn't offer pricing on an even keel with, or less than, second hand, then it'll be dead in the water. Last Xmas I got brand new hard copies of FIFA 09, Fallout 3 for 20 each, Gears 2 for 29. So four-year-old Kameo on GOD for 20 - no chance!! I'd love to know how many they have actually sold.

Erm, yeah, kinda think you got the point I was making that third parties will likely come to Nintendo next gen if they have a level playing field tech-wise. Right now a lot of companies can't make the games they want on Wii, not that I blame Nintendo at all for that, the situation has been born from circumstances of last gen. And yes, at the moment, Nintendo are fine without real third party support. The point there was, will Sony or MS do fine when they have even more competition on the multi-platform front.

"With all due respect isn't this the exact attitude Sony had and look what happened there. Consumers are both fickle and very ready to abandon even the most successful ship if they feel they are being taken advantage of or ripped off!"

Not really, because Sony put their whole focus on the power of the machine and neglected the gaming. Nintendo wouldn't have to make the same mistake. Point is I don't think Nintendo will stay as far behind the other two, if behind at all, in the horsepower stakes next time round and that should leave things out for conversions of GTA, COD etc, which are a big part of the Sony/MS success of this gen.

  • KrissAkabusi 10/08/2009

I love hearing the "nintendo can't pull the same trick twice" line when people talk about the next gen.

Nintendo were forced into a corner after the relative failure of the Gamecube last gen and would be dead right now if they hadn't differentiated themselves from the other two players. Next time round Nintendo have wads of profits to go with and will be in a far better position to produce a machine with as much grunt as Sony/MS's offerings.

"Time will tell how many of the 'new gamers' (or casual, whatever you want to term them) will repeat buy on Nintendo's next generation of hardware, whereas the traditional audience are extremely likely to continue to invest in new platforms when they come along."

So what has happened with all the PS2 owners who didn't buy PS3? I reckon Sony got it really right with the PS2, they served the core well, and the core in the main have flicked them off for the 360. The core will hop in bed with whichever tart is offering them the best lay. Console monogamy isn't that common among gamers, and nor should it be.
