I was hoping Microsoft would give me a reason to buy their console, but instead they basically told me that I can do what I am doing now (pay to play games online) with even more restrictions, but with slightly better graphics.
So, back to PC gaming it is. Apparently traditional gaming consoles are dead. Reply+22
I don't really see this catching on. People might buy it and screw around for a week or two, but then they'll get bored. It just reminds me of the Wii, a gimmick that will attract a lot of people initially, but nothing to keep them hooked. Reply-1
DmC Devil May Cry, meanwhile, "enjoyed stable popularity in overseas market"
Hah.
I still find it amusing that anyone can defend a game where you can beat most of it on the higher difficulty settings using one hand and without even looking at the screen. Reply-9
Bugger your ship dates. I want my games on time. I stopped using amazon because they started charging you first class delivery prices if you want your game "on day of release".
The main reason I have now swapped to ShopTo as my primary retailer, is because they send things out fast, and they send them so that you get them on time.
Who cares if someone gets COD a day or two early? Activision, I suppose. But why? What are they gonna do? Spoil the amazing story? Get a little bit of an advantage when it comes to levels? How about people who are waiting to play with their friends on a Friday night and on the weekend and then the game doesn't come until Monday?
Oh er, I'm just installing the HD textures for Dark Arisen as we speak - I'd better move my save. Can we actually copy DD data? I know some games only let you move - not copy. Which is frustrating because I like to keep backups. Reply0
I'll be very interested to see how this plays. Sam kept blade mode and zandatsu - will Blade Wolf? I wouldn't be surprised if he has some form of stealth camo.
And who will his final boss be? There'll probably be a Sundowner fight, although it would be awesome if the last boss was Raiden. Reply+1
"Western" studios don't make character action games. So many of them focus on spectacle rather than gameplay. Compare Skyrim with Dark Souls, God of War with Ninja Gaiden, etc. I play an equal amount of Western/Japanese games, but each have their strong points, and when you try and get British guys to make a DMC, it sucks as bad as when Bioware made a JRPG (Dragon Age II) Reply+5
Bayonetta had a lot of marketing, but it wasn't the sort of game that sells. Character action, whatever you wanna call that genre... it's never been home to games that sell millions upon millions.
Vanquish on the other hand, had a lack of marketing, despite belonging to a genre that sells extremely well.
If they really want to get in on the cash, they need to make a co-op FPS with zombies. That's where the money is. If they get a good viral campaign going, it doesn't even matter how absolutely terrible the game is (Dead Island) because those games have such a broad appeal (Left 4 Dead, zombies in Call of Duty etc)
The only part of Dark Souls I ever really found unfair was the first encounter with Seathe and the Bed of Chaos. BoC was poorly designed, and Seathe you just had no warning. They could have easily had an NPC who might tell you about Seathe, and mention that he's immortal with his crystals - they do, but you don't hear that dialogue until AFTER you've been forced to die.
Also, the new graphics engine reminds me of Dynasty Warriors 7 more than Skyrim. Mostly the cloth physics and the very shiny armour. Reply+6
It's out now on xbox - finished it this morning. It's fun, but at 800msp, I don't think it offers much in the way of value. The areas and bosses are all recycled, and there's no new enemies - but some enemies/bosses do seem to have new attacks.
It can be finished in an hour or two. There's 5 VR missions but not much else in terms of replay value. Should've been 560msp, I think.
"Always on" is a stupid idea. I didn't buy Diablo 3, or SimCity, and I won't be buying any console that forces me to connect to the internet to play it. Reply+5
