  • Hitman Absolution level changed due to negative nun trailer reaction

  • Grunk 17/08/2012

People seem to be missing the fact that the trailer portrays people dressed as nuns. I don't think io was trying to say all nuns moonlight for the dark brotherhood.
If a clergy man or woman turned up at my front door worth a rocket launcher, I'd probably be a pissed off. And potentially question his/ her authenticity. It's unlikely that I'd just assume it was a modern exorcism.

So what's the issue? Is it that in this particular level the hitfolk after agent 47 happen to be women? Surely that's empowering?

Perhaps next time io will ensure they have the correct mix of gender and ethnicity in their hit squad as not offend anyone, and ensure they're disguised as ninjas so there's no doubt about their occupation.

I would imagine that if positive discrimination was a part of the hit squad recruiter's remit the effectiveness of the team world be compromised.

"We have to choose between Enrice and Donald. Enrice has 500 confirmed kills, including 30 prominent politicians. Donald has narcolepsy"

"Well, we already have a Spanish guy in the squad, and we should probably promote the fact that we are an equal opportunities employer so ee should probably go for Donald, keep Enrice on file though, we'll probably need a new squad shortly"

So America just popped into existence then?

Or perhaps you should concentrate on the native American's who were pretty happy until the "new" Americans magically appeared.

Why not just region lock it to the UK?

you could have different versions for each county, at different price points to take into account how different cultures need different content.

the cumbrian version would have their protagonist ordering curry sauce with their chips, whereas in Northumberland it would be gravy.

Living, as I do in East Scotland, I would take it as a personal affront if the game suggestsed I have my chips with anything other than sauce, this is the kind of thing that sparks revolution.

  • Lovefilm targeting "many platforms"

  • Grunk 20/01/2011

When I was visiting my mate in the us, he showed me Netflix.

Essentially it delivers all the content you can get from a cable/satellite subscription on demand.

So they can stream the latest episodes of a series, no waiting a year for the box set to come out etc.
He also had access to huge library of films. This was all for < $10 (£6-7)a month.

It's the only entertainment package he needs or pays for.

Compare that with something like Virgin or Sky which is around £25 a month for a limited selection of shows and Movies + £10 a month TV licence fee.

If love film could come anywhere close to that kind of service, I'd be ditching sky and the BBC license fee in a heartbeat.

"DVDs are also region locked. It's nothing new."

But you can also buy a region free DVD player.

my estimate on region locking being hacked is 2 weeks after launch.

  • German outrage at Berlin Wall game

  • Grunk 13/01/2011

Surely this has much more impact than a film.

By placing yourself as a refugee or a border guard, you will be naturally incentivised to win.

This is a reflection of the actual situation, where the border guards wanted to stop folk crossing and refugees wanted to cross.

Perhaps the most significant aspect of this game would be the realisation that although the the Berlin Wall and the separation of the soviet block from the rest of world was politically motivated by some nefarious individuals, the actual people at the front line were normal people. Who's misguided beliefs were that they were in fact protecting themselves (and their families) from some external evil.

I'm looking for a truly unbiased an objective opinion on its 3D-ness.

Is it like the real life equivalent of R2D2 Beaming out the Princess' desperate plea for help?
Or is it just like normal DS but slightly fuzzy?

as most exposure has been given to professionals of the industry it will be good to hear what Joe Hairyarse and Joe Dudefather think of it.

It's a possibility that they didn't officially announce it at CES so they can do an unveiling at MWC or GDC with units in the shop that week.

A kind of apple-esq announce/release as well as trying to steal some of the 3ds's thunder.
