DA:O was vaguely reminiscent of the greatness of the old great RPGs og the 90s, Baldur's Gate, etc. I had hoped that DA2 would build on that and move even closer. Instead they removed the somewhat interesting gameplay and replaced it with 3rd person action hack and slash... I just couldn't be bothered, and I think the franchise is dead for me.
We'll have to see how Bethesda will do with Skyrim, they sadly seem to be going in the same direction. Oblivion was worse than Morrowind, and sadly Skyrim seems to be following the downward spiral.
I wish someone out there would realise that there actually is an audience for a proper RPG with stats, etc (I can imagine it's hard for some marketing suit to believe it, but some of us actually find that stuff fun) and would leave the formula alone, or at least work on it from the premise that it's not broken. I didn't play Empire, but Medieval 2's turnbased side was... not good. I found myself longing for the simplicity of the first Shogun. If you want to do grand strategy, look at Europa universalis... Reply-3
So the obvious question here is of course, will it be our own sackboy or a generic one? If it's the first one, colour me interested, otherwise blah. Reply0
I think the most likely explanation that the number of people who bought for Xbox does not justify the extra trouble of certification.
Or another possibility, it is actually going to be done for Xbox, but they are not delaying the PC version to wait for the Xbox version to get certified. Reply0
This is 100% the right way to do this, not only because obviously I like getting stuff for free, but more importantly, it prevents fracturing your playerbase.
The only example on top of my head is the MS2: pacific rift DLC, which contains some really cool maps. But I have never managed to actually playing them in multiplayer, effectively meaning I've wasted the money I spend (and meaning I will probably never again buy a mappack).
Of course, other benefits include loyal fans, who will buy product from company X because they now the product will be supported in the future (Valve's very loyal fanbase is a good example of this.)
That being said, I kinda wish these companies would bring out level editors for their games and allow them to be played. Reply+13
I'm disappointed. Never played the first one in MP and still enjoyed it alot, especially for the huge maps and the wave after wave of units you could throw at the enemy. Seems this has gone in the exact opposite direction. Probably one for the bargain bin as far as I am concerned. Reply0
Renting server is usually the preferred way, except at local LANs.... it's not as controversial as removing dedicated servers entirely though I dare say some people would like to run their own. Reply+1
There is probably some pesky little license problem or something like that making the date probably, but still tentative. It's better to say nothing, than having to push the date later. Reply0
I won't buy the DLC for two reasons, first is the obviously cost, £5 for an hours worth seems alot. The second reason is the magical moon money system they use, What the fuck is 560 BioWare points? What is the good reason for them not use normal payments? Reply0
This is just prespin for NPD, nothing to see here, Sony does it as well when the numbers goes against. Nintendo hasn't really needed it this gen, but I'm sure they wouldn't hold back. Reply+3
Hard to explain. I feel a very personal connection with those games. That's one of the main reasons I started Double Fine. So I could have a say in what was done with the characters and worlds we make up. And so with Psychonauts or Brtal Legend, if anything happens with those stories, you know it will come from us! To be fair to MS, it was quite obvious they were referring to those 5 or so games which followed directly after 5 or so multiplatform games. Kojima's appearance was quite seperate from that, and as other's have pointed out, if it had been exclusive Don Mattrick would not have been able to shut up about it. Reply0

£20 still seems pricey though, for that price I expected somthing that would actually expand the gameplay, like neighbouring islands... Reply 0

Yakuza 3
SEGA/tri-Ace RPG here next spring
But why the title change? It's not like the new one is any better... Actually the first one had an epic sound to it. Reply 0
