  • Breath of the Wild shows Nintendo is learning from PC games

  • FirLocke 16/03/2017

Fascinating article. Having grown up predominantly on consoles (with PS1 being my first, and the Wii/DS era being my first fling with Nintendo), I know very little about PC's heritage. I mostly know (J)RPGs, platformers, action, strategy, puzzle, sim (animal crossing, style savvy and Persona) and rhythm games. Immersive sim is a genre I tried to get into with dishonoured, but I greatly felt that disconnect you mentioned. All these tools for great gameplay, but I feel like I should pay attention and put more focus on the story. Ended up not playing much at all in the end. All these bugs etc. of Skyrim et al. also put me off.

But it's safe to say I'm having a blast with Zelda. And perhaps, going from the article, I can consequentially call myself a fan of immersive Sims now? I've always been a gameplay over story guy, but my favourite games are the ones that combine the two to a great effect. Like Persona 4 on the PS2 (can't wait for Persona 5 OH MY GOODNESS ITS OUT SOOOON), Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn on the Wii (still need to play Path of Radiance), The Last of Us on PS3 and Radiant Historia on the DS. For me, your game might have a great story, but I need the gameplay to be good enough for me to get to it.

  • Nintendo's precarious reveal runs risk of Switching off fans

  • FirLocke 13/01/2017

I couldn't be more deflated. I thought it was impossible for Nintendo to disappoint me this much, since I'm someone that actually enjoyed Wii U. And it's a shame, because Splatwoon and Mario look brilliant. I'll take them on a console priced at 200 and also includes the good controller with the console, not one that's being sold separately.

The Switch is very feature packed, but most of them I don't really care about. All I need is gyro in the controller to have those Splatoon controls. That's it. I'll take a PSTV version of the Switch, thanks Nintendo.

And I hope that online sub is no more than 10 euro a year, you arrogant sobs.

  • Sony's 2017: steady as she goes as PS4 goes big on games

  • FirLocke 05/01/2017

IMO, this is PS4's best year yet, actually. I am ridiculously excited for Persona 5. Prepare your butts for one if the best RPGs of all time.

Other games that look mighty fun:

Horizon ZD, Gravity Rush 2, Yakuza 0, Tales of Berseria, the Kingdom Hearts Inquisition, Crash Bandicoot Remakes, Mass Effect, Uncharted, Danganronpa V3, Ni No Kuni II, Yooka-Laylee, Sonic Mania (and hopefully project 2017?), For Honor, RE7, Pyre, Nier Automata....the list just goes on and on.

I dunno. This year just seems to me like a year that justifies more so than ever, having a PS4. You know, for playing video games.

  • How does Overwatch run on budget PCs?

  • FirLocke 01/06/2016

I was mighty surprised that Overwatch ran quite close to 60 fps on my i3 Intel 4000 laptop. It looked somewhere in between PS1 and PS2 graphics, but it ran well! More than I can say for Killer Instinct. God I wish that game ran on my laptop. Reply 0
  • Why is Danganronpa so viciously appealing?

  • FirLocke 08/03/2016

Danganronpa 1 & 2 are some of Vita's best games. Get it if you haven't. I've no idea if the port is good, but you too PC players! Can check out Another Episode as well, but I didn't like it. The gameplay is totally different and made progressing the story waaaaay slower, and the story itself isn't as captivating as 1 or 2's. Graphics were a nice showcase for Vita though.

Can't wait for 3. Total media blackout, but I'm sure it'll be fantastic.

I'm A-OK about this cos I actually want to get gud at the game, so the earlier the better! The extra content is appreciated of course, but I'm glad it can be added later so that we can get the game earlier. I also very much appreciate that they're being honest about it all. Reply -2

  • Odin Sphere: Leifthrasir details new game modes

  • FirLocke 09/01/2016

I managed to play the demo thanks to my Japanese account. It's effing brilliant! Never played Odin Sphere before, but I have played Muramasa and Dragon's Crown and this game is infinitely better IMO. The premise, story and characters seem very interesting, the variety between the five playable characters was great, the combos felt great to pull off and very satisfying to land.

OS is definitely on my radar now, how fantastic it is when a demo does what it's supposed to. I'm excited!

  • Xbox 360 at 10: The touching dreams of Lost Odyssey

  • FirLocke 24/11/2015

I bought a 360 about 5 months ago because of Lost Odyssey. I bought a good few other games too, like Alan Wake, Witcher 2, Deadly Premonition and Deathsmiles, but Lost Odyssey was the number 1 reason I wanted a 360. So I finally bit the bullet :)

The problem has been finding the time for a story heavy JRPG-ass-JRPG! Well, at least I have it now.

Would rather that Final Fantasy XII HD be a thing tbh than have it be backwards compatible. It reaaaaaaally doesn't look good on HDTVs.

That was very enjoyable! I think these games would make for interesting videos:

    Okami HD
    Shadow of the Colossus
    Final Fantasy XII
    Mario 64
    Papers, Please
    The World Ends With You
    Red Dead Redemption
Super Mario Galaxy 1 or 2
    Metroid Prime

I think all of these do interesting things and would be fun to see a newbie play them!

  • Sony insists Vita is here to stay

  • FirLocke 12/09/2014

Oh how I wish the Vita was like a PSP 2.

Where are my big time exclusives that the PSP had, like Crisis Core, Birth By Sleep, Daxter, Peace Walker, God of War, Jeanne D'Arc, Gran Turismo, Monster Hunter and Final Fantasy Dissidia?

Oh they're on other platforms? Cool, I'll get those then. Software sells hardware people, why do you think the 3DS is doing well and the Wii U is looking up? Not many exclusives are being made for Vita, and that is its biggest problem.

I can only think of one exclusive upcoming Vita game, and that's Freedom Wars. And instead of that, I have 4 3DS games pre-ordered that are all coming before the year's end. Great first impressions came from the Vita, but I'm finding it difficult to love at the moment.

  • Soul Calibur: Lost Swords review

  • FirLocke 06/05/2014

I absolutely love Soul Calibur and I 100% agree with this review. I even gave this game a chance and played it for a good 2 hours. I deleted this game immediately afterwards and spun on some Soul Calibur V, and then some Soul Calibur II and had tons of fun. Even the incredibly bare bones single player of V outshines this, and that's something I thought I'd never say.

Lost Swords doesn't exist in my mind.

A great game indeed! I tend to go through short bursts of addiction with this game. Mostly play Arena so I can get cards for free and drafting decks is really fun. Love Shaman, Rogue and Druid decks in particular.

That moment when you get your first Legendary from a pack. SO GOOD. And it was Malygos!

  • Video: Let's Replay Crash Team Racing

  • FirLocke 02/03/2014

Loved Crash Team Racing as well. I prefer it over most Mario karts too!

Yet Mario Kart never copied the apple system where when you get ten apples, you get a better version of your weapon. 3 missiles is always better than one. :P I think Naughty Dog also put in something similar to that in Jak X, but with eco instead of apples.

Shame that the later Crash Kart games were really quite terrible, probably because they weren't made by ND.

....Now I want ND to make a Crash Kart racer for my Vita. :(

  • FirLocke 16/11/2013

I'll be getting Ni No Kuni for Christmas. PS4 can wait until Infamous is out. Even then I'll probably be playing Dark Souls 2 more than my PS4.

Still plenty to play this generation if you're thinking about waiting. Even a lot of the big games like Destiny, Watch Dogs, MGS V and personally for me Guilty Gear, will also be available on PS3.

Buuuut......they will sure as hell look a lot nicer on PS4.

  • Fire Emblem: Awakening review

  • FirLocke 15/04/2013

Getting a 3DS XL for this game.

Then I'll hunt down the DS Advance Wars games which I haven't played and then also play them on it.

Then I'll get Mario 3D Land, Luigi's Mansion 2, Mario Kart 7, LoZ: Ocarina of Time, Star Fox 64, Kingdom Hearts 3D, Kid Icarus: Uprising and eShop games like Crimson Shroud, Liberation Maiden, Fractured Soul, Mutant Mudds, and of course, Shovel Knight whenever that comes out.

It's going to be expensive, but it's going to be worth it. These games are going to make those hour long bus rides to college everyday much more enjoyable!

  • Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance

  • FirLocke 19/07/2012

Quite surprised by this review, didn't think this game would be the change of pace it seems to be.

To be honest, Re:coded, I thought, was pretty terrible. For those of you who want to know about the most important titles, they would honestly be KH1 and KH2. From there, BBS and Chain of Memories. Even then, CoM mainly serves as an interesting behind the scenes bridge gap between KH1 and KH2. Really good game in and of itself though.

358/2 Days - not that important in the overall plotline of the series, but, honestly, it's got one of the best stories on DS. Also multiplayer, playing as the organization was actually pretty fun. Very cheap to get as well. Just don't bother to play on Proud mode, not worth the extra difficulty xD.

Anyway, if/when I get a 3DS this is one of the games I'll get for sure!

It's a great game, I got it back when it was first released on the DS(at launch :D) and I'm still pretty happy with the DS version.
