    Only time will tell - but for now, roll up, ladies and gents, the keynote circus is back in town and tonight's performance should be a good 'un.

    So the featured event at the circus is the Clown show

    Nice one he delivered that well, it's called a shit sandwitch. Praise it from a height first then a subtle kick in the ball sack. Plenty of potential but will that potential (ever) get tapped. Reply 0

    Maybe the pubs are getting a little tetchy about all the delays and the calamity that was the launch.

    Please! this is the game industry you DON'T pass on a gurenteed seller you grab it and milk the crap out of it as usually happens with GTA games!

  • EGBartonFink 22/09/2006

    What a steaming pile of ....

    Not a game in sight, although the idea of delivering emulated games over the wire is very interesting indeed. Terrible keynote from the sounds of it. Another screw up by Sony at another games show perhaps? Suppose it did deliver on the comedy though ;)

    Why do they feel the need to constantly justify their use of Blu-ray?

    I mean who are they trying to convince that it's necessary for HD gaming, us or themselves?

    This is probably the best bit of news we have heard about the PS3 so far. It kinda does make sense of the 99% BC claims. I just don't think that would have been possible with emulation. Reply 0

    LOL - nah just wondering if it was the usual bandwaggon blind hate or a more informed hate. From your reply I suspect the former rather than the later. I suggest going and actually reading some of their history maybe then you might actually be able to give a reason. Take the blinkers off.

    @SeesThroughAll - Blu-Ray is TECHNOLOGICALLY SUPERIOR to HD-DVD, that's all I'm interested in. Not in Microsoft's two-faced bullshit.

    No argument there but what's that to do with this. Sony are asking gamers to subsidise their Blu-ray push into the mainstream. No denying that is there?

    DVD was a new format when PS2 came out were we asked to pay over the odds then?

    How are MS being two faced by the way?

    It's also really interesting that they chose to announce the name a few weeks early. I would have expected them to announce the new name at E3. However considering the name they have chosen it's really not a surprise they did it a few weeks early as a desperate damage limitation attempt.

    Can you imagine what it would have been like at E3? People falling down laughing it would have been a riot. I expect they will probably get a hard time at E3 anyway. However I suspect they will let the games speak for themselves.

    From the article if you bothered to read it.

    "PS2 game sales in 2005 in the UK grew by four per cent to an all-time high of 23.84m units, representing a staggering 43.2 per cent of all software units sold in the UK"

    Xbox running at just over 10% and the poor Cube only managing just over 2%

  • EGBartonFink 01/05/2006

    @smelly

    Regardless of which, if what it shows at E3 impresses as much as Im hoping it might, i'll buy one regardless of the name. Just like I buy "snickers bars" despite prefering the name "marathon". If a product is good, i personally dont care about the name.

    Same here personally I reckon it's going to be a brilliant console but the man on the street is going to see the name first. Let's hope Ninty get the finger out this time and do some astounding marketing of the games god knows the name of the console ain't going to do them any favours.

  • EGBartonFink 01/05/2006

    Yup I can honestly say that I have never heard anybody using anything like "gamebox" or "playstationcube", etc etc.... I have often heard people mistaking everything for a Playstation though. How exactly does this get around that particular problem. The name is spectacularly weak. It's unfortunate as I really thought Ninty had a chance this time around but it needed a strong brand name and this falls very short. Revolution would have been a much better choice. Reply 0
  • EGBartonFink 30/04/2006

    @smelly - come off it the DS thing comes nowhere close to this.

    The two brands you have mentioned have very strong names regardless of how stupid you might think they are. Wii is weak it has negative conotations associated with it already. Also unlike the ofther two you mention Ninty are the only one that have also been losing market share in the home console industry consistently since the days of the SNES (yea yea their hand held position is fantastic).

    Sadly I don't think this name is going to do them any good at all. Last time you would have been hardpressed to find one of those aforementioned parents who knew what a GameCube was unlike Xbox and Playstation which are now household brands. The name is simple but very weak and has very little positive impact.

    Nintendo may know what they are doing but the reaction to this so far seems to point out that everybody else doesn't.

    Ok piss jokes aside I reckon it's a really weak name from a marketing perspective and Nintendo have done their chances of getting back up there with the big two no favours at all with such a weak name. It should be about the games but people are a fickle bunch. Huge marketing blunder by Ninty I reckon. Reply 0
  • EGBartonFink 30/04/2006

  • EGBartonFink 30/04/2006

    Ah smelly to the rescue of Nintendo. What you should get over is the fact that Ninty have made a huge marketing gaff. Anybody I have mentioned the name to has just laughed and wondered what idiot came up with that name (these are non gamers). If you really think it's not outside the mainstream then why have the BBC, Guardian, and Inquirer all ran stories on it. It's a shit name get over it. You really think the man in the street is not going to make the exact same mental association with the name? Taking the approach that names like Xbox 360, Playsation, Virgin, Google etc are equally crap doesn't work either none of them are associated with a bodily function it just doesn't work. Get down off that high horse and see it for what it is a utterly stupid and moronic marketing gaff. Reply 0

    But there is the premium content people have downloaded. Obviously they are making something on that. Hence the laughing all the way to the bank. Personally I have paid for 5 games so far.
