So I guess all the peeps opened a new copy of Destiny yesterday are currently really enjoying themselves... Wonder if that will last when the DDOS attack ends and they start playing Destiny.

@abigsmurf Ah thanks for that, an interesting topic it has turned out to be!
After some research on the matter I think what they say about changing prison sentencing is fairly sensible.

    http://www.prisonreformtrust.org.uk/Portals/0/Documents/WomenbriefingAug12small.pdf

This points out that the largest grouping of those serving time are for theft and handling. Hardly a crime that prison is needed for. Why not try giving these people help to change as opposed to paying a lot to keep them from doing it again for 6-12 months when they'll be released to reoffend with a year - again shown in the above link.

In summary, you original post is a rather Daily Mail like sensationalist statement that doesn't really represent the truth of the matter.

@abigsmurf Erm... what? Never jail women? just googled this and no sign of it on the first page of hits, so clearly isn't a key policy if a policy at all.

Sources please as this is the first I have read of all except the nuclear power.

  • Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is 2014's Christmas number one

  • DakeyrasUK 22/12/2014

    @mushi_mush
Hmmm, not sure I agree it is for children - they certainly enjoy it though. Yet I know lots of adults that play it, but none of them have waited until Xmas to get it.

The vast majority of these have been bought in bundles (my guess is to be opened Xmas morning by children), it's a shame bundles no longer include a choice of 3 games instead of a prescribed 3 games etc.

Most times I couldn't care about Video Games charts, but this bugs me.

Call of Duty is no. 1 at Christmas.... so loads of children will be getting this thinking they are all adult and will then take to the web to hurl abuse - great...

i guess i'll be getting dragon age then to fill the time. This could be bad as early june is batman and possibly similar time to mgs5 and star fox.

Edit: of course this won't be bad for the game, just for my own personal time spent!

@specialgamer Final Fantasy - though I'm not sure the Orchestra tours, it is just the conductor and composer that tour.

I went to the Royal Albert Hall at the beginning of November to watch the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the London Voices Choir perform 2.5 hrs of FF music!

I really want to see this, but to me final fantasy music is more fitting an entire orchestra - not that this is in any way lacking!

I must have missed something about Steamworld Dig?! I played about 30 mins courtesy of PS+ but it very much felt like I was playing a cookie clicker type game...

Collect gold, spend gold (so I can collect more gold quicker), so I can buy mre expensive upgrades (so I can collect more gold quicker... and so on.

Don't get me wrong I enjoyed the aesthetics (so will keep an eye on this), but I found the game-play was tiresome.

I took a look at the xb1 bundle (it got as far as it was in my basket). They have a similar bundle for 329, just missing the extra controller and 12 months xbl (things I would buy at a later date). 51 for 12 months and an extra controller is pretty good deal for anyone who already wanted the smaller bundle anyway.

But I'm not spending 380 on a new console to get 2 games I'm not fussed about...

So I got Shadows Of Mordor instead on ps4.

  • The joys of GTA Online

  • DakeyrasUK 19/11/2014

One of my favourite moments of GTA Online was around 6 of us in our best loved cars chasing the train through the desert, trying to be the person that successfully jumped and landed on the train. So many near misses, so many hysterical crashes, some incredibly hard to destroy vehicles, but best of all so much shared laughter over group chat.

Reminded me of playing Goldeneye 2 v 2 with the no radar cheat and a DIY screen to divide the screen in two. Not a lot of multiplayer experiences come that close.

I bought WiiU day one (yes one of the few) and im now very close to getting a ps4. With it I'll get alien isolation, evil within, shadows of mordor and gta v. Yes they are all available on my 360, but i havent bought a 360 game since gta v. I have been plenty busy on my WiiU and 3ds this past 14 months and will be in the forseeable future with the great lineup to come!

This said im not in a great rush to get my ps4, im waiting on a really good xmas deal. In short the early purchase of the wiiu has taught me that new consoles really arent needed until there's a catalogue of games to play. Ps4/xb1 are about there now and things will only get better.

Ps4 must be bought by feb for me, im hyped for witcher 3 big time. For me, that is the first killer next gen app!

  • Watch 10 minutes of 1080p Final Fantasy 15 footage

  • DakeyrasUK 14/11/2014

Whilst this game does look beautiful and although XIII was incredibly linear (certainly until around 15hrs in and finally getting to the opens plains) I do hope this doesn't deter too far from the battle mechanics of XIII as that had (i thought) a really good way of keeping the combat fast paced but keeping the traditional aspects intact.

Without the combat being explained this does look a little bit like an action rpg where the buttons are melee attack, magic attack etc and you equip moves to each button. If that is the case then I'll loose interest pretty quickly as I love the tactical element of the normal Final fantasy combat - choosing what spell and what special move for the most appropriate moment of the battle.

The above is my worry, oh and I know it would be quite odd in today's gaming but I do miss exploring on the world maps of I-IX...

Like a lot of other commenters, I thought "REALLY? Another Destiny article?"

But I read it and enjoyed it it. I liked the comparison of save points in games to human progression and education bringing people up to speed - or you could say loading saved data!

At this point I should confess, I'm a Physics teacher, so an article on Space, human existence, Brian Cox and games is ticking a lot of boxes of things I like to read about!

    Good job!

  • DakeyrasUK 06/11/2014

Superb! If only other developers had such passion and confidence. It absolutely shits in the face that says that DLC is the only way to make AAA gaming a viable financial model. All it takes is commitment to producing the best art that your game can be from the skill of those behind the final release. Screw market research, have the developers be gamers so they know what is needed and then we'll buy buy buy! Reply 0
  • Smash Bros. for Wii U includes eight-player battles

  • DakeyrasUK 24/10/2014

Awesome! As someone who already has the 3DS version I'm happy about being rewarded for the double dip!

The big thing I need from this though is to be able to send notifications that pop up on screen so my friends know I'm online and am wanting to play! Having to organise it all via facebook on a third screen isn't hard, but it is less convenient.

Hang on, why don't they utilise the gamepad for those kind of notifications? The home button flashes blue when they send deals etc, so why not do the same whilst you play and a friend invites you to join a game, c'mon Nintendo make it so!

I've been "umming" and "aahing" for some time over this. I am a sucker for anything Zelda - just bought 4 classics (Awakening, Ages, Seasons and the past) from the eShop due to the current Zelda Weeks sales...

After reading this review I'm back in the very interested camp, but with Smash Bros and Theatre Rythem (3ds) and Bayonetta 2 all out in the next 6 weeks I'm not sure I can justify buying it yet - especially as I'm strongly condsidering getting a ps4 with Shadow of Mordor when a tasty xmas deal pops up.

Perhaps I should wait for it to be cheap - that or a special birthday treat for my self (I'm 30 next month)!

Edit: also totally blanked the fact I want the PS4 for Alien Isolation as well!

@SarcasticJoe I have noproblems with Keifer Sutherland as an actor. It did bug me playing GZ and it not being Hayter's voice though.

In my opinion English voice acting makes for a generally poorer experience compared with Japanese voice acting. As I don't speak Japanese I can identify the spoken tone by reading the text, but don't know if it sounds poor to someone who speaks Japanese. Where as in English, I detect the bad delivery of line very easily.

This, together with a loss in translation and a change in original script due to the desire to keep the spoken words in sync with character animation are the reason why all my Asian films (and games where possible) are watched with the native audio and English subtitles.

@Pwnsweet Shame games don't let you listen to the original Japanese with English subtitles ala Blu-rays!

Having said that Xenoblade Chronicles allowed just that! Maybe this game will and you won't have to listen to KS's voice!

  • Sunset Overdrive Season Pass detailed and priced

  • DakeyrasUK 10/09/2014

I just find this season pass stuff depressing. I don't remember it existing 4 or so years ago before COD sold 4 maps for a tenner (or something like that) and the COD-ites lapping it up. Note: I confess to buying one pack for the COD Black Ops, was very unimpressed with the value so never bought one again (or another COD). That said, my friends I played Black Ops with still buy COD and all the packs - some of them now get the season passes to "save" a little bit of money.

Anyway, getting to my point, they caught on massively for COD so they are now for being pushed on to all/most AAA games as well as some smaller budget games. People may prefer the convenience of the digital download days, but I damn miss buying completely working games, with FREE unlockables of extra costumes/player skins/weapons/cheats etc. One of my proudest gaming moments growing up was unlocking the no radar cheat for Goldeneye on the N64. Instead of this sort of stuff being in games we have micro-transactions to access all the game or macro transactions (DLC) for bigger chunks of the full game.

    Oh well...
