  • Bungie announces next two Destiny public events

  • ChiefGB 19/09/2014

This is the biggest new ip launch ever as far as I know, a game that does have many facets (even if they are all similar) it going to generate news and many people want to hear about it including those who are undecided whether to buy. Come on guys lighten up a little. The frequent discussion in the forum thread shows how red hot and divisive this game is, anyway most people complaining here are the same faces commenting regularly there. Reply +13

  • Destiny review

  • ChiefGB 17/09/2014

A considered and well structured review there, well done. The overarching fact is it is just fun to play and very addictive. Yes it far from perfect but many of us are just really engrossed in it all (I'm not going to repost all the valid criticisms of what it isn't yet here). The fact is bungie have a history of listening to their communities and constantly balancing their games. I just hope the game does open up and include some originality before too long, as the competition for gamers time hots up over the next two weeks let's hope it hasn't burnt out by then. So It should have been better than we got, but the base to build from is solid. Reply +3
  • EA removes trade offers from FIFA 15 Ultimate Team

  • ChiefGB 16/09/2014

The ultimate team is actually a genius idea, however it's not for me for two reasons.
1.i don't play FIFA enough to progress
    2. The main reason being the fact I'm shit at it (possibly see point 1 for that).
However it is an addictive little bugger if you have the time.

  • Destiny thrills, but the big picture rings hollow

  • ChiefGB 10/09/2014

I'm enjoying it still, despite all the valid criticisms it does seem to keep me hooked all over again after alpha and beta.
But I had a feeling that it would go this way,
Lack of variety, too much given away in the beta, which was all but complete code. Bungie don't want to call it a mmo and yet they use all the classic terminology to describe aspects of it like loot, end game, raids etc which immediately draws those comparisons.
The tower and community aspects of the game are a bit if a joke really four emotes is nowhere near enough, text chat or even localised comms really are needed. I could see that in the beta yet they have changed none of it, so what's the point of the tower beyond jumping on the roof or kicking balls at each other. If it's to foster a feeling of togetherness it's lost
We forgave the lack of story as we assumed it was kept under wraps (doesn't seem to be the case as it doesn't seem to exist).
They were called out for lack of content and replied with there is plenty to do (but we are repeatedly running through the same areas which is the issue I think added with the fact it's the same kind of stuff).
The levelling seems to be too quick, which increases the chances of people burning out of content and leaving the game.
The strikes sound like they all follow the same template (guard the ghost through 3 stages then bullet sponge bosses).

These opinions come from my current progress lvl 7, but many people further down the line are saying the same things.

They have bigged up the raids but as hardly anyone has even seen them all I can do is hope they show some originality/epic battles. Going on the evidence so far they show little signs of hitting the heights. If they don't then the game will be in real trouble. Here's hoping they do.

Again though I am enjoying it just that I can see the pitfalls. The shooting seems solid, the ai is lacking seeing as that's traditionally been a bungie trademark, but I'm still enjoying playing it's just that it could have been so much we better quite easily and really should have been I predict 8/10. I would still recommend it as it does most of it's aspects very well, just none of them are near perfect.

  • Latest Humble Bundle includes Papers, Please, Gone Home and Luftrausers

  • ChiefGB 10/09/2014

Yeah I too rarely play on my PC but gone home and papers please look like I would get enjoyment out of and I've been intrigued to get hold of them. Was going to wait for console versions but for this price, plus extras, plus the fact my conscience is cleared with the charity support I think I'm going to have to jump on this. It would be my first humble bundle purchase, do I get the extra games too when they release them if I buy now? I'm guessing so. Also if that's the case how does that work, do they email you with extra codes or something. Reply 0
  • Xbox One October update detailed, Xbox 360 Guide functionality restored

  • ChiefGB 10/09/2014

@JasonB81 actually in fairness I did think similarly after posting that, It does do things differently and in some ways more than the 360, as well it should. But that's doesn't mean that they are better, the new guide button to me is just a constant faff and they are now trying to retrofit ways to get it to do what we all had before, so why did they change it at all in the first place. Got to say phil spencer should be up for man of the year to start pulling things back around but the xbox just continues to not really now what it wants to do. Everytime I turn it on something's changed around (sometimes 3 or 4 things) and I struggle to keep up with them good changes in some regards but it feels like they just can't get it to be perfect. Kudos for trying though whereas Sony launched better but have barely tightened up where they should have so far.

Btw it's not ignorance as I have all the consoles, it's frustration as 360 was my console of choice but now it's ps4 and I just don't see that changing no matter how hard Microsoft try to persuade me, it's a games console ultimately and the games simply run better on the ps4 so far.

  • ChiefGB 09/09/2014

So it nearly does all the stuff the 360 could do, at last!
P.s feel free to neg away but it is pretty much the truth, they ripped way too much out for no apparent reason. And yes in fairness Sony need to pull their fingers out a bit more now.

  • Sometimes I wish more games were just a vertical slice

  • ChiefGB 06/09/2014

I have an absolute shit ton of bloated incomplete games, and I think it's a combination of things.
Time-as we get older we have less free time but more money (sometimes) to pour into our hobby this leads to:-
More choice- over the last gen games have been released thick and fast, far more than I remember there being on snes etc when i was younger, these coupled with the desire to sniff out a bargain makes me feel that I can barely complete any games these days.

  • ChiefGB 27/08/2014

Ps+ has been a bit weak for the last few months outside ps3. Isnt that sportsfriends local mp only (bit like that towerfall game) and requires multiple dualshocks also bit limiting requiring extra expensive equipment isn't it. Not exactly for me.............I mean buying friends to play with isn't exactly cheap ;) Reply +8

  • EA declares war on FIFA Ultimate Team cheaters

  • ChiefGB 22/08/2014

Why don't they reshuffle their prices, it's cost them next to nothing to produce these points/packs. The black market trade just highlights ea's greed on so many levels, overpriced, massively profitable for them and still pissed that they don't have the whole pie. For the record I have and never would buy coins from sellers, but then I do include ea in that. it's already the highest selling sports game in the world, they have had enough of my dough over the years thanks. • FIFA 15 on PS3 and Xbox 360 doesn't have Pro Clubs mode

  • ChiefGB 22/08/2014

As I said earlier, this is the mode I and my friends play the most, I find it the best way to play, 3 or 4 mates against the world on a Friday night. Still I guess it sounds like it's not all that popular which surprises me, if I was still on last gen I simply wouldn't be buying it. I think it stinks the ps4/xb1 haven't even been out a year and they know it's still likely to sell more than the latest version, it's pure bullshit.way to early to find excuses for stripping out modes. This is the feature I use the most, good job I have the next gen consoles now. But for those that don't this is just bullshit, I just can't see any real excuse more that as 360/ps3 are the new "legacy" formats I see them shutting more and more off till that old classic "kits and roster updates". • Bungie on the Destiny level cap, raids and game size

  • ChiefGB 21/08/2014

@MikeP or arrogant maybe? Time will tell I guess, but I wouldn't be surprised to see them change some of it after launch. They seem to contradict themselves by saying people will group up in the tower etc, yet they say you need organisation etc and can only play with friends? Add to that if the beta is indicative the range of communication between players is poor at best. The tower will be a graveyard after a week which renders it kind of pointless. I'm onboard with this game but already I and others can easily see how they could step up the community aspects for the better but I'm not sure they are listening (yet). Reply +2

  • Diablo 3 download/install sizes are much higher on PS4

  • ChiefGB 11/08/2014

Maybe it needs even more space so it can unpack whereas the xb1 version isn't even available to compare against. Even so not sure why it's bigger on ps4 in general but hasn't the game led on ps4? Maybe there is more compression on the xb1 title, maybe there is some kind of cheat goin on with the 1080p of that version (still don't understand how a patch can up it from 900, was the same on ac4 for ps4) Reply -2

Tried to play both of these games on 360/ps3 respectively, nice but didn't do enough to hold me. Maybe the bells and whistles here will add to the experience? Either way the timing of this is a little off with the newer games due to release in the coming months. That said 4a games are clearly making all the right moves with the price point and value for money along with all the work they have done to them, likely to put some other upcoming "remasters" to shame. Someone is going to get burnt big time soon with all this though and it could be this or sleeping dogs that suffer as these are not exactly the most well known names to the casuals. Reply +5

Streets of rage (1) simply has the greatest soundtrack ever. it was just such a big part of the experience of playing the game for me and it was also while dance music was in the ascendancy. The other soundtracks just got worse from there 2 was good, whilst 3 (although I only played it in the last 5 years) was just dire and the game felt way too much of a mess to me. Reply +1

@Quiksylver I didn't have fibre till earlier this year and new xb1 games were ridiculous to play I read your earlier post and suffered the same. But can it be changed or Is it too embedded. It truly is the biggest issue that machine has, it just isn't fair on the players (so don't blame me) Reply 0
  • ChiefGB 23/06/2014

This is getting way beyond ridiculous, this is the main reason my xb1 drives me mad and rarely gets used (neg away twats) the way it's setup is just awful. The people without fibre connections or dl caps are the ones I feel most sorry for, no one can even play the game before it's downloaded and installed and then the game has to install!!!!!. Not sure who is most to blame for these stupid patches, but ms are to blame for the way the xb1 prepares games to play. The competitor console will be playable in probably 30secs (all be it unpatched) while xb owners may have to wait the better part of a day to even see the loading screen. Absurd.
Looking at this thread I better get my tin hat out. "Incoming"!! That said in the interests of equality the ps4 info needs to be forthcoming.
