It's a good game and I play it regularly currently but in my opinion, it is the most imbalanced FPS in existence. I have absolutely no idea how anyone who's witnessed a heavy using a tomislav and dominating everyone on the server, being the sole reason why that team is winning, can call the game 'perfectly balanced.'

"Is it balanced? Who can say. Nothing feels unfair"

You're jesting, surely? Or have you never been instantly killed upon turning a corner by a sniper endlessly spamming with the Huntsman (popularly known as the Lucksman, for good reason), never been crit rocketed and killed instantly (this is the very definition of unfair. Yes you may get crits as well, and when you do, it'll be unfair for your opponent as well. Let's not even get into the fact that crits benefit classes like soldier far more than others - a scout needs two crits to kill a soldier, a soldier needs one HIT to kill a scout with the direct hit), never been one shotted by weapons that just utterly veto your existence if you play a class with low HP despite how you need pinpoint accuracy to do well against others and they just need to spam in your general direction, etc, etc - I could go on all day.

That said, it's still a very good game, just not a balanced one. I personally believe that Valve intentionally make the game imbalanced in order to make it easier for people who are new to the game to do well, as can be seen with the Heavy class where they had a ludicrously overpowered weapon for him called the Natascha that made it impossible to escape.. it took many months for it to finally be fixed, and then soon after what do they do? Add the aforementioned Tomislav weapon for the heavy, making the problem even worse than it once was. I utterly disagree with this philosophy, but that's just me.

Thanks for writing this, I really enjoyed it. This game is hugely important and nostalgic to me. Definitely my favourite 2D platformer of all time, and one of my favourite games ever.

So you call it awful then proceed to give it 4 out of 10, which according to the Eurogamer scoring policy means it is below average, but not bad (3), or awful (2)? Interesting. Reply -5

Saying you'd need to be a master swordsman for 1:1 to work is rather silly. You wouldn't need to be... your character, unlike in real life, could be made to handle being stabbed multiple times because you failed to block or etc. Similarly, the AI wouldn't necessarily have master swordsman AI.

I'm still waiting for the day a developer nails 1:1 and makes you feel like you're actually using a sword or a lightsaber, even if that isn't capable on the Wii's technology. Until then we'll have to put up with mediocrity like Red Steel 2.

If this is the most retarded thing you've seen in a while, you should(n't) really hang around other comment threads. They both presented themselves at least somewhat reasonably, not just purely retarded fanboy shit like in 99% of these comment threads. From what I've played (admittedly not too much), I'd have to agree with both of them a bit - I do think L4D is overrated. But saying it should have been a "Free mod. At best." is a bit much...

I haven't played L4D much though despite purchasing it ages ago. Mainly because like Burzum, I don't know anyone who'd play it with me on the PC, and I have absolutely no intention of playing it on a console. I'm sure it would be approximately 10,000 times better if I wasn't to join a server with a bunch of idiot kids who jump down your throat for any little mistake (making it difficult for a new player like myself), etc. Shame there don't seem to be too many PC gamers on EG, and the few there are don't really play together. Ah well.

"Because if you look at Europe, you realise that WOW took months and months and months to get there. It's really really hard to find a company that understands how to put servers in, get bandwidth, speak loads of languages, co-ordinate with all the different countries, realise that the Italians don't like the Germans who are suspicious of the French who don't talk to the English who don't really like the Dutch who don't understand the Spanish."

Yeah, right. The Germans, French, Spanish etc all enjoy servers where no-one really ever speaks a different language and the language rules are enforced. The 'English' ones are filled with people refusing to speak English despite it practically being a universal language, ridiculous amounts of national guilds, etc. They refuse to make it a rule to speak English even though it is on the forums and whatnot, and refuse to create servers where you can only speak English.

It's also just not handled that well at all. The Europeans are treated as second class customers, the devs only respond to/read American posts, the Americans usually get patches and services earlier, etc. And with Warhammer Online, this is only going to be worse considering GOA are handling it.

  • SoulCalibur IV - Gameplay

  • Bloodloss 19/07/2008

Not really. The idea would be to use the spear at long range, and the sword if the person manages to get within your 'deadzone.' The main weakness of a spear would be that if they managed to get in close range you're screwed, a sword in the other hand prevents this and allows them to open up the gap again, in theory.

Of course, it's a video game that won't implement such complex mechanics so this doesn't matter.

Really a shame that all races can be Death Knights. I've always loved them - to see a bunch of pink haired gnomes running around as them will be terrible. It's also a shame that they're going to be so easily accessible... Death Knights? Awesome. Death Chargers? Awesome. Seeing everyone and their mother roll one, completely taking away the specialness? Not so much. Reply 0

@JediMasterMalik - er... you are talking about Dawn of War 2, right? If you're talking about the original DoW then I honestly think you need to have your eyes tested, or to at least re-play DoW. It's absolutely nowhere near comparable in any way - SC2 looks infinitely better.

I'd also say it's the best looking RTS in the works or currently available. Not just technically, but the style of the art, the animation. The Blizzard touch.

I found it surprisingly very unfriendly to new players. I started up to a terribly designed tutorial as a villain getting out of prison, went out into a soulless yard with people beating on buggy, strange mobs and I didn't really know what to do. I was given a bog-standard 'kill X mobs' quest as you'd expect in an MMO and most of the mobs were buggy. Later on I was being told to arrive at a certain destination and I simply could not find or get to it... I was on, or near the marker on the map, but there was nothing to be done at the location, no buttons to press, no-one to speak to. I searched for a group to another quest for about 30-60 minutes. No responses at all. I really just didn't fee like continuing after this experience... even Eve felt more beginner friendly.

Its character customisation is brilliant, though.

Why on earth would you want to solo in an MMO? Doesn't that defeat the purpose of it being massively...multiplayer?

Regardless, I haven't played WoW in AGES and have wanted to come back for quite some time. Last time I played was when BC came out. I levelled a Blood Elf to 25 or so, then quit again, without seeing any of the new raids or new profession etc. I'll probably be back for this.

I remember thinking the framerate issues were horrible, but then after I got out of Eden Prime it was fine. Maybe 3 different occasions after that where the framerate was bad. Plenty of moments with texture pop-in, which whilst slightly annoying, I don't consider a big deal.

It shouldn't have any of these issues, but I just can't understand how someone could not play such a fantastic game because of them.

To all the people saying 'OMG it has loads of children in it!' - You will find idiots and little kids in everything, especially very popular, accessible things like World of Warcraft. It is, however, not difficult to go 'ah well,' add the idiots to your ignore list, then find a more mature guild that only recruits people who are 18 or over, or something.

To all the people saying 'It has loads of grinding in it! How can you give it a 10?!' - As you will see, he compares it to other MMOs and says it's the best of its kind, which it is. Grinding is essentially what an MMO is, practically all MMOs have loads of grinding. WoW actually has a lot less grinding than most MMOs to reach the max level etc. If this style of play isn't appealing to you, then you should leave the MMO section really, as MMOs in general aren't for you.

Personally, I quit a long time ago as I didn't feel like putting the time required in, was having issues finding a good guild at the time, and was utterly, utterly fed up of being forced onto the EU servers and having to put up with 'SWE?!' every 2 seconds, and practically all guilds and parties etc on my server (and other ones I played on) only allowing people of X nationality in. So it was a choice of continuing to play like that, or buying a US copy of the game and the expansion, having to put up with all the lag and time difference (making raids almost impossible). I chose neither. I still plan to go back to it, some day.

"This latest iteration adds two armies, Dark Elves and Sisters of Battle."

Agree with the review completely - might have even given it a 5. They're getting ridiculously lazy. I imagine it took VERY little work to do Soulstorm. The fact it was done by Iron Lore and that photo of the PC Gamer magazine which is obviously relating to Dawn of War gives a lot of hope that they're finally going to stop milking this with expansions and give us Dawn of War 2. Let's just hope they put in a lot of work for once and make it spectacular.
