    Being a previous 360 owner I might have gone for the XB1 if it had launched at this price with Titanfall, as it stands though I now have a PS4 (which is actually awesome) and there's no way I'm shelling out this much for a console that has no other exclusives to tempt me in apart from TF. I'm pretty sure I can cope with waiting for the multiplatform Titanfall 2 Reply +11

    I'm not sure how Microsoft didn't realise that if they had put the Rare guys to work on a new Banjo/Diddy Kong/etc game as an exclusive for the XB1 it could have been a system seller. Instead, the Rare team disintegrated years ago and became a shell of it's former self, forced to churn out games like this that no-one asked for, to justify MS bundling their console with the peripheral that no one wanted. • BigDaddy82 20/02/2014

    For me Gears 1 was good, Gears 2 was ok and Gears 3 was super boring, I didn't play Judgement. I think I just got bored of the world and the characters in general, it wasn't to do with the overall quality of the games, though the repetitive nature of them didn't help (by Gears 3 you could predict when you entered an area full of cover height objects that yet another wave of enemies was going to attack you). I feel sorry for Black Tusk as ultimately I don't think it's a franchise that can possibly be revived, but that's just my personal opinion. I'd rather they let Gears go now and do something fresh and new. Reply +25
  • inFamous: Second Son is likeable, but not yet loveable

  • BigDaddy82 13/02/2014

    Neither provides the glorious thwack and smash of video game combat at its best, alas. Maybe the sound effects are too soft, maybe the animation is too restrained and the camera shake and haptic feedback too gentle? Maybe it's something deeper and more mysterious that an idiot like me could never understand. Whatever's missing, it means that Second Son's combat is absolutely fine, but it doesn't yet thrill you, regardless of how you approach it.
    This, this is my problem with the first two games, they were fun enough but the combat never had the oomph I wanted from it. It didn't help that I played each of them at the same time as the first two Prototype games, and the gloriously over the top violence and combat in those games just made firing electricity in Infamous seem kind of tame to me

  • Tomb Raider Definitive Edition is more than a facelift, dev insists

  • BigDaddy82 18/12/2013

    I was reading through the article waiting for the bit where they said they had added new missions, or re-worked existing ones, or generally added new content outside of pre-existing DLC. Unfortunately all they said is that they added new effects, trees and altered Lara's face. So really, however much of a facelift it is, it's still a facelift. It was blatantly a marketing decision to try to squeeze a few more sales out of a game that didn't meet sales expectations on current gen. It was a great game though, which I won't be playing again, but I will be looking forward to the sequel. Reply +14

    Backgrounds look terrible as usual, nice in terms of the vistas they've tried to set up, but really lacking in detail, boxy geometry, muddy textures, flat grass etc. Those trees look like they've been re-used from Forza 1. • 'Should Battlefield be an annualised series?' mulls EA

  • BigDaddy82 20/11/2013

    COD might make money by being annualised and it makes sense from a purely business point of view, but from a gamers point of view it suffers as the studios work to strict deadlines - there's no breathing room for creativity (or the staff I imagine). Hence the recent review scores of Ghosts reflecting the decline in innovation and quality. Spreading the workload over different studios also dilutes the talent pool that may have made the game series great originally. As a gamer I would much rather wait for an awesome iteration of a popular game series every two or three years than receive a rushed update of one every year Reply +8

  • BigDaddy82 08/11/2013

    @jonvital

    Forza? I'm judging it based on the fact that it was the one game out of their whole XB1 launch lineup that they chose to show off as part of this video. If it wasn't finished or nearly finished they wouldn't have shown it. Given that fact, and the fact that it does actually not look that great, I believe I'm entitled to my opinion. You'll notice I didn't comment on the gameplay, as I've not played it. Don't worry anyway, I was never going to buy it, just commenting on it out of mild curiosity.

    Big 360 fan here, but that video just showcased a lot of stuff I really don't want or need. I just want to play games, not sit in a room talking to my TV. MS put way too much faith in people actually wanting any of this Kinect integration, or maybe I'm just old fashioned. Wanted an XB1 when I hear about it due to my 360 allegiance but now I'm pretty much on the PS4 side of the fence.

    Also is it me or does Forza look pretty ropey? To be fair it always did on 360 (cars looked great, environments not so much) but I expected a bit of an upgrade on next gen. The frame-rate seemed to suffer with all that pausing and switching about too, though maybe it's non-final game code (I'd hope it is)

  • UK chart: Capcom's new IP Remember Me debuts third

  • BigDaddy82 10/06/2013

    @Corvo-Attano-77

    (Re: Cockpits) that's kind of wrong, Codemasters haven't made any proper car interiors and then simply 'removed' them, the interior you can see in that mod is a low detail one used for replay camera shots and when generally viewing the car from the outside (so it looks like it has an interior). It's not intended to be viewed from close-up inside the car, hence the low quality of it in the cockpit view mod. To have made proper high quality interiors for each car would have taken CM a lot more time and effort, hence why they didn't do it (couldn't justify it as not many people use cockpit cam)
    Reply +2
  • BigDaddy82 10/06/2013

    @DacoitOne

    Yes because that modded cockpit view looks totally amazing right? No it doesn't, because an actual detailed cockpit view would have taken a lot more time to put together for each car. If you really think that it was just a case of Codies moving a camera inside every car to provide a 'cockpit' view then you clearly are quite naive when it comes to games development. I don't think CM need to sit in the corner at all, they provided explanation for why they didn't model all the cockpit interiors and for me (one of the 95% who don't use cockpit view) having them spend time on the other areas of the game made a lot more sense. Great game by the way, glad it's hanging on to the top spot.

    Well, really it's just because they chose a good time to release Dead Island, there's no other bigger games out at the moment to take that top spot away from it (everyone who wanted Bioshock probably already bought it). Goes to show the power of finding a good release window.

  • Respawn game is reportedly an always-online Xbox exclusive

  • BigDaddy82 30/04/2013

    I wouldn't be surprised if this were true, if the rumours of no second hand games on the new Xbox are also true. The increased sales of their products will be pretty tempting to developers from a business point of view, I can see a lot of good exclusivity deals being made for Xbox based on this. And I say this as someone who'll be very disappointed if that's the case, as I have a 360 and want to get a 720 but if you can't trade in the games that you play or pick some up second hand, it's going to be a very expensive console to own Reply +3

    @Lebowski

    Your comment makes no sense, though I understand it was an attempt to be clever. DLC is not content that has been cut from the main game and held back (in some cases though they may use existing map designs or assets to create new content though, or include something that was planned for final release but couldn't make it in due to scheduling).

    DLC nowadays is about keeping people playing games over the course of a year, and giving the people who enjoy those games something fresh to play every few months.

    As an avid COD player I appreciate new map packs, I don't mind paying for them, I get hours of enjoyment out of them. From your point of view you're not being forced to buy them or even care about them, I expect you don't even play COD you're just hanging onto the hate bandwagon because it's cool to do, apparently. There are better things out there to be concerned about.

    You guys only have yourselves to blame if you've spoilt anything from coming here. Not only are there multiple spoiler warnings at the top, but why would you choose to read an article on a level from a game you really really want to play but haven't yet?

    Anyway, I've been reading up on the ending a lot, I dismissed it initially because I didn't quite understand it, but there are some decent explanations around, and now that I actually understand maybe 80-90% of what it was all about, I see the game in a different light. I always thought it was amazing, but now I realise it's the only game I can think of in recent memory where I've invested so much time in to finding out all about it AFTER I've finished it. Also the ending really cleverly opens it up for multiple playthroughs, not that I'll be doing that though as with narrative games I find that I do one playthrough, and that becomes my experience. Any more than one is just re-treading ground I've already covered but doing things slightly differently just to see what happens.

    There's a lot of generalisation going on in this thread. Yes, these guys are clearly morons and they happen to play COD, and yes there is that side to the game. There is however also the side where more civil people like myself play. I really enjoy playing COD with my brother and cousin on a regular basis, we get on the headset and use it as a chance to socialise with each other (we never listen to what's going on in the lobby). • Tomb Raider DLC will be entirely multiplayer-based

  • BigDaddy82 20/03/2013

    The SP was brilliant. I went onto the MP and everyone was warping about in the session I joined (my connection was fine though), so I went back to the lobby to try to find another game. On the lobby screen it would no longer let me press any buttons to actually get into a game, or to do anything else. I took the game back the next day.

    Also agreed with whoever said above me that the MP achievements were stupid. I thought it was ridiculous that they put the 'get to rank 60' achievement in (hate it when developers try to get you to grind through their tacked on MP!), but then I found out there was another achievement for unlocking all characters which actually means you need to have prestiged about 4 times, so you need to be rank 250-ish. Incredibly bad achievements.

    I see your point but Crytek are only interested in making games that will sell millions, which none of the games you mentioned are likely to do. Think about it this way, if only 75k signed a Kickstarter petition for IW to make a new COD game, they wouldn't make it. Crytek will only relaunch the franchise if significant interest is shown to justify it from a business and sales point of view

    Crytek bought Free Rad because Free Rad had closed down of it's own accord. When that happens with game companies, other companies typically come in and try to snap the staff up, to get them working on their own projects. Crytek had them work on Crysis 2 and 3. Same way that Crytek has just taken over Vigil games and made them into Crytek USA, I doubt they'll be making Darksiders there, they'll be working on more Crytek products.

    It's nothing to do with Crytek being lazy, it's all about them making a new Timesplitters viable from a business point of view. Cevat launched a petition for Crytek to make it, not enough people showed interest, so they're not making it. Maybe this mod will remind more people of the franchise and get those petition numbers up, but in the mean time it's not Crytek's fault that it's not being made.
