@IronSoldier Do you remember the MS 'balance' PR spin they tried to put on it with their engineers? Read between the lines and it was basically what I said.

As for fanboys...I'm immune to them, I really don't care what they have to say. Been there, done that, got the t-shirt and then gave it away to Oxfam.

"It's a mystery then that with all their money Microsoft didn't employ a better team of hardware engineers when designing Xbone."

Not at all. One word: 'Kinect'.

If MS had kept Kinect optional and instead poured resources into a better RAM/GPU/CPU than it would've been a whole different story. Only so much engineers can do if MS original vision was TV TV TV crap with Kinect an integral part. This meant the other components had to be downgraded to keep the price from skyrocketing. Even then it was still too expensive.

It might be Sony isn't adding much, to keep it that way. After all software isn't Sony's strong suite. Remember what happened to PSN store on PS3.

@IronSoldier No worries dude, fanboys are the bane of the video gaming world imo but then again I'm now in my 30s and clearly remember being one myself back in the 90s (was a Sega fanboy).

Console exclusives truly shine in about a decades time when decent emulators are released on PC that can power past the hardware limitations of the host console. Of course by then it's just a trip down memory lane with rose tinted specs on.

@IronSoldier I would normally agree with you about racing games and 60fps especially in 2014 but in Horizons case (including FH1 on 360) it actually feels fine. It's probably down to the underlying FM5 physics engine and also because 30fps on console is a much more pleasant experience than on PC where the precision aiming of a mouse, coupled with the low monitor lag and sitting up close makes gaming @ 30fps a non starter (unless you game on PC console style ala control pad, sit far away and on a big TV screen which is more laggy).

I game mostly on PC and have done for a number of years and know where you're coming from but I think there are a few exceptions to the rule and FH2 is one of them. Only reason I own consoles now are for the exclusives (if they are timed I'll wait for PC version which is why I've yet to play GTA5).

I have both FH2 and Driveclub and all these pre-launch Gifs and off screen videos seemingly showed DC to look better. It may be technically better but from a laymans point of view the superior AA and bright colours of FH2 just looks better. DC jaggies are quite off putting and the muted colour pallette gives it this dull look. I guess some prefer that though so apples and oranges in this case.

Also it maybe down to the FM5 physics being used but FH2 just feels and looks smoother in motion despite both being a locked 30fps.

Does anyone else feel the same way or would argue differently? I fully expected circuit racing DC being on the more powerful PS4 and on a long development period to wipe the floor with FH2 in the graphics department, instead I came away dissapointed. A 30fps driving game shouldn't be this jaggy on next gen. Playground Games game engine for Forza Horizon 1 on 360 and this one are simply superb.

  • Badassbab 12/10/2014

I guess CA couldn't get a solid 60fps on PS4 so locked it at 30fps. Should have given the choice imo. But then again they had to work across 5 platforms so optimisation time to get the best out of each console would've been limited. Reply -3

  • Sony "temporarily holding back" DriveClub's free PlayStation Plus edition

  • Badassbab 11/10/2014

Ok had a good play through of this and all I can say is the graphics are not as good as I hoped (really jaggy in places) and it still feels kind of incomplete. In fact it feels like old skool arcade racing games with just the bare essentials needed which in this day and age of untold amount of menus may be welcomed by some.

Saying that there is actually a great game in there, I just feel it needs even more polishing time. Yes I know they've had almost a year to do that but they need more i think.

If there is a sequel, it could be the greatest improvement over the first game of all time should Evolution do things right from the off.

"Maybe Sony should take the MS approach and just buy up other companies or games."

I don't know how old you are but I clearly remember Sony purchasing many developers during the Playstation 1 & 2 days. MS issue is that it didn't do that enough otherwise it would've had a lot more exclusives like the Playstation.

Technically this game is mightily impressive but I feel Evolution still needed more time hence post launch patches which might improve the game to the point it may have gotten better reviews. Got to wonder if Forza Horizon 2 forced their hand.

Also even though technically it's very polished it seems the focus on realism makes the world look drab at times.

Might improve with age as they add more features. Glad there's loads of tracks as opposed to loads of cars. Still it was pretty apparent this was going to happen. Sony didn't delay it for no reason cause presumably they thought it was shit. Polished turd is a polished turd but in this case I think we might see a GT5 with constant improvements over time (I hope). I need a racer for my PS4 and this will have to do even if FH2 does seem to look a lot more enjoyable (which I also have).

About the gfx...I've seen some stunning GIFs and off screen videos but the high bitrate videos on Gamersyde don't look anywhere near as good. Looking forward to seeing it for myself.

@OmegaNemesis28 Have you done a Forza Horizon One vs Forza Horizon 2 comparison to see which looks better on 360? Horizon 1 I thought looked amazing for a 360 game. FXAA with 4xMSAA + 720P + near enough v-sync @ a rock solid 30fps. Reply 0

  • Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 review

  • Badassbab 26/09/2014

I'm one of those guys who buys older games on Steam sales and plays them so right now I'm getting inferior image quality and frame rate from my gtx 970 compared to the r9 290 for pro Nvidia Borderlands 2.

On AMD Catalyst Control I wacked everything up to the max while in game I had game capped @ 60fps and PhysX on low but everything else maxed out.

On Nvidia Control Panel I turn everything up to the max but left DSR off. In game again maxed out except 60fps cap and PhysX on high.

Result? Image quality nicer (AA was 24EQ) on R90 and frame rate 'seems' to be more stable too. Could PhysX on high be affecting frame rate? DSR would probably kill the frame rate so left it off.

@Grayvern You can get Palit brands for 260 but paid the extra 20 and got the MSI version. Just fitted it after ordering it yesterday so gonna try it out. • Badassbab 24/09/2014

@PearOfAnguish Actually not sure about the delivery charge, I think I will get that refunded but the 10% penalty I think they can charge that since it's in used condition and a little bit scratched (it's huge). Anyhow got my refund process started, just need to send the R90 back, MSI GTX 970 coming tomorrow (paid 280 + 10 p&p @ Overclockers UK). Reply 0
  • Badassbab 24/09/2014

Just called Overclockers UK. No refund on the delivery (10) and a 10% deduction which means I get 270 back for the SAPPHIRE VAPOR-X R9 290 4GB GDDR5 TRI-X OC. Plus I have to pay to send it back and wait about 2 weeks for the refund to process but at least I get to keep my 3 free games (Alien Isolation, Star Citizen and Murdered Soul Suspect).

    GTX 970 here I come!

I only game @ 1080p so the OC 290 is fine for that but still...

  • Badassbab 20/09/2014

@mkreku I just realised you have the 290X, I have the Sapphire Tri-X 290 since it was 310 delivered next working day with 3 free games (I opted for Star Citizen, Alien Isolation and Murdered Soul Suspect, the other games I already owned or didn't interest me) and I only game at 1080p and will do for ages. I opted for the Tri-X due to it's superior performance but above all it's much better cooling components.

The 290X was an extra 80 which for an extra 5-10fps just wasn't worth it for me. I'm happy just to be gaming maxed settings (in most cases) on 1080/60+. That will do me nicely for a few years til 4K becomes mainstream.

I bought my card from Overclockers UK who for this week only have dropped the price by 10. I only got my last week. Dammit!
